We begin with three clips from last weekend's Saturday Night Special. First, Adam Revolver grabs the almost-limp Michael (not PS) Hayes and applies Hayes' own submission move, the Liberty Lock. Hayes' arm drops twice and ref Josh Ashcraft tries to push it down for the third drop but Hayes keeps his arm upright. Hayes then turns over and clamps the Liberty Lock on Revolver. An exasperated Ashcraft calls for the bell and Hayes regains the OVW TV Championship. The next clip shows Jamin Olivencia and Chris Silvio hitting Shiloh Jonze high and low before Olivencia grabs Jonze and holds him as Silvio cranks up the rocket punch. Jonze pulls away and Jamin gets hit, which allows Jonze's partner Eric Locker to pin Jamin and win the OVW Tag Team Championship. The final clip shows Mr. Marvelous Melvin Maximus applying the deadly bearhug to Marcus Anthony. Michael Titus tries to climb into the ring but special referee Timmy Danger kicks the middle rope to crotch Titus before seeing Anthony tap out and calling for the bell. Melvin retains the OVW Championship.
After the show opening, Titus Enterprises (Titus, Revolver, & Anthony) along with Ashcraft come to the ring. Titus calls Ashcraft the greatest ref ever. Ashcraft says he has some footage to show us where he made a mistake in the Hayes/Revolver match. Hayes has Revolver in the Liberty Lock as Revolver's foot is under (but not touching) the bottom rope. Ashcraft says that he should have made Hayes break the hold at that point and thus will reverse his own decision in the match, awarding Revolver the victory and the TV title. Hayes comes out slowly since he is weighed down by that TV title belt:) Hayes isn’t giving up the belt like that but since he loves to fight and defend the belt, he challenges Revolver for tonight. Hayes has three words for Revolver and the fans chant "you tapped out". Titus says it's stereotypical of Hayes to come out alone but here comes Melvin, who suggests to Hayes that they should initiate a "marvelous" beatdown. The Paul Revere and the Raiders music hits and here comes "Mr. 1859" Cliff Compton! Titus is offended that Compton is back out here since he says Compton is a has-been and has done nothing to deserve a title shot. Compton gets all in Titus' face but Anthony steps in and the two shove each other. Here comes OUR OVW Owner "Nightmare" Danny Davis, who is weary of having to come out here to keep people apart. Since Anthony lost at SNS, he's not getting a rematch with Melvin and since Compton has been gone for a while, he must climb the ladder to get a title match. Davis merges these two issues by making a match for next week's TV between Anthony and Compton with the winner getting Melvin at the October 4 SNS. Davis then approves of tonight's main event by informing Revolver that this is his last shot at the TV title. Davis then tells Hayes to make Revolver tap out again! Davis calls Ashcraft a dumbass and announces that Danger will be the referee for the main event.
OUR OVW Announce team this week is "Anchorman" Gilbert Corsey and "Fan Advocate" Terry Boddie, who also does the ring announcing.
Match #1: Vaughn Lilas vs "Primetime" Robbie Walker
The anonymous bearded ref is in charge as Lilas backs Walker to the corner and shoves him. Gilbert tells us that Walker was victorious in his match at SNS. Walker hammerlocks Lilas and shoots him into the ropes but gets blocked down hard. Lilas spends the next few minutes beating up on the smaller Walker, especially throwing some rather loud chops. Walker ducks a lariat and nails Lilas with the Cosmic Kick for the pin.
Earlier today, Gilbert was in the back and stops by to get a word with Mary Jane! Gilbert asks her what the deal is between Silvio and Olivencia but before she can say anything, an angry Silvio comes into the room. Silvio is mad because he couldn't get any TV time this week and snaps at Mary Jane, who says Silvio is not going to talk to her like that! Silvio says that he has had it up to here with Olivencia and with Mary Jane then tells Gilbert and the other two to stay out of his way!
Match #2: "The Man" Jason Lee vs "Diamond Steel" Ryan Howe
The anonymous ref that resembles Nick Dumeyer is in charge here as Howe comes out with a new guitar and plays some "Detroit Rock City". Howe gets beat on in the corner but comes out with a flying shoulderblock followed by a legsweep for 2. Howe leapfrogs and rolls Lee up for 2 but gets shoved headfirst into the turnbuckle. Lee pounds away on Howe, kicking him in the head and mocking his guitar playing. Lee grabs a rear chinlock as Gilbert lets us know that there is still no update on Mohamed Ali Vaez, who suffered a concussion two weeks ago, and can't get one due to HIPAA regulations. Lee slams Howe and goes up to the second rope but misses a moonsault. Howe gets all offensive and hits a neckbreaker for 2 but Lee gets a foot on the ropes. Howe comes off the top with a crossbody but rolls through and "The Man" holds him down for the pin.
Howe is in disbelief as Lee walks away a winner.
Match #3: The Wild Boyz ("The Teflon Don from Boca Raton" Eddie Diamond & "Party Starter" Bud Dwight) vs Joey Bayless & Dapper Dan
The ref from the first match is in charge here as the Wild Boyz work over Bayless in their corner as Dan is chomping at the bit to get tagged in. Bayless is subjected to a backsplash from Diamond, a running boot from Dwight, and Diamond springboard splashing off Dwight. Bayless never gets over to make the tag as the Wild Boyz hit the Sobriety Check on him for the pin.
Dan comes into the ring and helps Bayless to his feet. They shake hands before Dan unleashes the power of his mustache and hits a German suplex on Bayless!
Match #4: One-half of OUR OVW Tag Team Champions Eric Locker (w/the other half Shiloh Jonze) vs Buddy Wayne
The ref from the second match is in charge here as Jonze is dressed business casual and is wearing glasses while carrying the tag belts. Gilbert says that not only did Wayne wrestle with Danny Davis and OUR OVW Trainer "Hustler" Rip Rogers, but he trained both Jonze and Locker. Gilbert says Wayne is proud of his students but doesn't like the way they go about their business. Much chain wrestling to start before Locker blocks Wayne down to the mat. Wayne breaks out a couple of flying headscissors but takes a forearm to the back of the head. Locker hits an uppercut and grabs a nerve hold. Wayne gets to his feet but gets clobbered and slung into the corner for more beatings. Wayne leapfrogs and hits a victory roll for 2. Wayne tries a second one but Locker pulls him down just enough to give him a belly to back suplex, which is called the "hurt locker", for the pin.
There was much rejoicing...for Locker and Jonze anyway.
Hayes is preparing for his match when Olivencia walks in to congratulate him on his victory at SNS. Hayes says he wishes Olivencia and Silvio could have won their match then notes that he hasn't seen Silvio today. Olivencia says he hasn't either but will just deal with Silvio next week.
Gilbert and Boddie plug an OVW Live Event 9/13 in Austin, IN. Gilbert then announces something called "Plus One" that will feature matches that happen at the TV taping but do not air on TV. These will be available through Twitter and Facebook.
Match #5: Adam Revolver (w/Michael Titus) vs OUR OVW TV Champion Michael (not PS) Hayes
Danger is the special referee here as Hayes gets all up in Revolver's face so naturally Revolver ducks in the ropes. They lock up and roll around on the mat, each trying to get the other locked up in a hold. Hayes goes for the Liberty Lock but Revolver gets a foot on the ropes. Hayes blocks Revolver's suplex try and hits one of this own. Revolver kicks Hayes in the ribs and chops but Hayes fights him off and chops Revolver right back. Revolver kneelifts Hayes in the corner and goes for a tenpunch but Hayes powerbombs him and goes for another Liberty Lock but Revolver drops and rolls out as we go to break.
We return to see Hayes banging Revolver into the ring boards and rolling him back in. Revolver snaps Hayes across the top rope then drapes him on the apron and pounds on him. Revolver chokes Hayes in the ropes and lets Titus join in on the fun as well. Hayes grabs a sleeper but Revolver breaks it and hits a legsweep for 2. Revolver beats on Hayes, who fights back up and tries a belly to back suplex but Revolver slips out and goes for the sleeper. Hayes suplexes free for 2 but misses a lariat and Revolver again applies the sleeper. Revolver hangs on as Hayes scoots toward the ropes before rolling over to cover Revolver for 2. Hayes goes for a Liberty Lock but Revolver rolls backwards and hooks in the sleeper. Hayes goes down and Danger drops Hayes' arm twice and pulls it up for the third drop as the show goes off!!!!
THOUGHTS: If Titus keeps saying that failure is not acceptable, shouldn't Anthony and Revolver been fired by now? Where is this new talent that Titus has supposedly acquired? Even though Howe played a guitar this week there was no mention of his troubles with The Congregation. Interesting that Ashcraft didn't ref at all but still didn't get fired. The "Plus One" thing sounds good, especially since they have had a few women's matches lately that didn't make the TV show. So will Hayes' arm drop or will he keep it up? Tune in next week to find out-same OVW time, same OVW channel! This show did seem to flow rather well and set up a bigger show for next week, so I'll give it an upper thumbs in the middle.
