From Larry Goodman:
Anarchy Wrestling second television taping under the ownership of Charles Anschutz was appropriately titled as "St. Valentine's Day Massacre".
The stats were as follows. Attendance was 125. The show ran 2 hours and 40 minutes, which was impressive given that there were 11 matches. All four titles were defended with none of them changing hands. A slew of matches were set up for the next show. The problem between Jeff G. Bailey and Miss Rachael that started at the last show has gone full blown.
The main events delivered. Billy Buck scored one of the biggest wins of his career, pinning Mikael Judas in a supreme battle of wills. The feud between former partners Todd Sexton and Bobby Moore came to a fitting conclusion with a bloody and brutal Valentine’s Day Massacre Streetfight.
Overall, this was a very good show with many quality matches. My sense was time was cut from some matches because there were so many on the card. The shorter times did no damage, and if anything, made them feel more realistic.
The crowd is a bit more contentious than before. I wouldn’t say particularly hot on this night at least. As to the creature comforts, they had the blowers going before the show and temperature inside the building wasn’t a problem. Watching an Anarchy show in the winter can be an uncomfortable experience. On the other hand, there was horrible smell in the ringside South section, like a rat died in the wall.
BJ Hancock rudely snatched the mic out of announcer Bret Wolveton’s hand to open the show. Hancock said Miss Rachael wasn’t there due to the despicable actions of one Mikael Judas (a ginormous choke slam on Rachael at the last show), and the referee, Judas and Jeff G. Bailey (he pushed Rachael towards Judas) would all pay.
(1)Jagged Edge (with Jeff G. Bailey) defeated BJ Hancock and Shaun Tempers to become the new number one contender for the Anarchy Heavyweight Championship in 4:10. It was every man for himself. Tempers tried for the hangman neckbreaker on Hancock. Hancock shoved Tempers, who delivered a knee to the face of Jagged. Hancock then had Tempers pinned after the piledriver, but Bailey pulled him off the cover, and Jagged capitalized with a Big Thump powerslam.
Wolverton announced that Jagged would get his title shot on February 28.
(2) Drew Adler & Colt Calloway defeated Beautiful Bald Besties (Michael Stevens & Zac Edwards) in 6:07. All were making their Anarchy debuts. The Besties got a “bearded lady” chant. Adler hit a beautiful corkscrew flip dive to the outside on Besties and landed on his feet. Besties almost had it won with a codebreaker/backcracker combo. The Besties collided. Adler hit a Blue Thunder Bomb to dispatch with Stevens and pinned Edwards with a swanton bomb. Nothing wrong with the match except they were rushing like crazy to get their stuff in.
(3) Fred Yehi defeated Slim J via submission at 5:01 in match 3 of their best of 5 series. J leads 2-1. Facing elimination, Yehi came out super aggressive, forcing J to fight off two early attempts at the Koji Clutch. J rammed Yehi into the buckles to slow his roll. J on the attack. They traded blows with J getting the best of it. J with a hammerlock/headscissors for a near fall. J with an apron to inside DDT for two. J tried for the flying reverse DDT, and Yehi caught him with the Koji Clutch. This was booked to be short, and I thought the out-of-nowhere finish worked really well.
J begrudgingly accepted Yehi’s handshake. Match 4 takes place on February 28.
(4) Trevor Aeon defeated Supernatural to become the number one contender for the Young Lion’s Championship in just 3:15. Aeon attacked Supernatural before he got through the ropes. Supernatural fought back, launching a Sliced Bread #2 from the ring apron and applying a guillotine choke. Aeon nailed Supernatural with a running kick to the mush and finished him with a hanging DDT. The action was fine while it lasted.
Aeon gets titles shot on February 28.
Wolverton explained the Ironman Series – Each match will have a 10 minute time limit. The winner advances to another 10 minute match. In the case of a time limit draw, both men are eliminated from the series. First wrestler to win three matches in a row becomes Anarchy’s Ironman.
(5) Lars Manderson defeated Jacob Ashworth in 5:20 to advance in the Ironman Series. These dudes had major issues stemming from the previous show. Ashworth was stalking his man. Manderson took a TO, and when Ashworth ventured to the ropes, Manderson snapped his throat off the top rope. Manderson worked on Ashworth’s knee. A gimpy Ashworth blasted Manderson with a shoulder block for a two count. Manderson back with a sky high powerbomb for a near fall. The finish saw Manderson counter Ashworth’s roll of the dice and hit the Falcon Arrow. Match was fine. Ashworth was consistent in his selling of the knee. The fans really respond to Ashworth. He got a big pop coming out and a round of applause for a losing effort.
(6) The Devil’s Rejects (Azrael & Stryknyn) defeated The Elite (Jagged Edge & Se7en with Jeff G. Bailey) in 3:30 to retain the Anarchy Tag Team Championship. Azrael opened up with wicked chops that Jagged didn’t appreciate one bit. Rejects cut the ring in half and applied pressure on Stryknyn with classic tag team wrestling. First big chant of the night was for Stryk. Jagged ‘s leapfrog -hiptoss-superkick sequence was executed with precision. What a pleasure. Hancock ran to ringside and pulled Se7en off the apron. Se7en went after Hancock, and in the ensuing confusion, Rejects broke out a superman punch/spear combo to pin Jagged. Bailey was gobsmacked.
(7) Jeremy Foster defeated Jon Williams to retain the Young Lion’s Championship in 7:17. As Foster was playing to the crowd, Williams knocked him the floor with a clubbing blow from the blind side, then nailed him with a tope. Williams went to town on Foster and got heat with his facial expressions and obnoxious attitude. Foster rocked Williams’ world with European forearms. Williams cut Foster off with a jumping knee strike and tried to go aerial off the ropes, but his groin landed on Foster’s knees. That spot can look stupid but got the timing just right. Nice back and forth with big moves here. Foster pulled the kneepad down but missed. Williams hit snake eyes followed by a nasty forearm to the base of the skull. Foster kicked out. Williams went back to the well with snake eyes. Foster escaped and connected with the flying knees strike for the three count. One of my favorite matches of the night. Their styles meshed well, and with his strong heel personality, Williams made an awesome opponent for Foster.
(8) Corey Hollis retained the Anarchy TV Championship via a 10 minute draw with Kevin Blue. Blue got a nice pop for his entrance. Not much heat during the match which was babyface/babyface. Lots of “Matt Hardy” calls for Blue. Must have been some new fans because the resemblance old news. The first key spot came at the 5 minute mark, when Hollis suplexed Blue into the turnbuckles on a reversal. Hollis impressed with a huracanrana and a dropkick both executed from a standing position. Hollis used a stretch muffler. Hollis came off the top straight into a shot to the mouth, and now it was Hollis that was in trouble. Blue hit his signature moves but couldn’t put Hollis away. They traded blows as the final seconds ticked down. Blue hit the Air Raid Crash but the bell rang before he could get the pin. This was good but I preferred the dynamic and energy of Young Lion’s match. I don’t see Blue being at Hollis’ level and this match did nothing to change that impression.
They shook hands after the match, although Blue made no bones about his frustration with the outcome.
(9) P Dogg & CB Suave (with Nina Monet) defeated Shadow Jackson & DA Brewer in 8:27. P Dogg rapped his new single - “Straight Out of Trussville”. I found the do rag wearing, crotch grabbing P Dogg to be infinitely more entertaining than “Old School” Mike Posey. P Dogg is similar to the original Slim J wigger character except it’s played strictly for laughs. Not sure this association does Suave much good. Monet accompanied them to ringside wearing an outrageous blonde Afro wig. Brewer removed his ref gear, revealing tights in scripted with “Cheer 4 me”. When Brewer asked the fans to cheer for him, they went with it which was fairly shocking. The show needed some comedy to change things up, and I thought this match worked well in that regard. While P Dogg goaded Jackson into a game of chase, Suave submitted Brewer with a can opener.
Postmatch, Jackson said he was going to do what needed to be done to “pooty tang” in a singles match in two weeks. Jackson touted Brewer as a future star.
(10) Billy Buck defeated Mikael Judas to retain the Anarchy Heavyweight Championship in 20:07. With two of Anarchy’s top fan favorite wrestlers ever competing, the crowd was quiet for much of the match. A slugfest broke out at the opening bell. Judas took Buck on a tour of the turnbuckles. The fourth turnbuckle was a struggle but Buck ended up eating it. Judas punished Moore gut and lower back. Buck was in agony. Judas taunted Buck, asking him to give up. Buck fired up and tried for a high crossbody. Judas caught him and gave him a fallaway slam like he was a small child. Buck rolled the floor. Judas broke the 10 count and dropped Buck’s throat on the rail. Judas tried for a chokeslam from the apron, but Buck connected with his first superkick, sending Judas to the floor. Judas was back in at the count of eight. Bailey and Jagged Edge came out to observe. Judas kept goozling Buck for the choke slam, and each time, Buck would fight it off. Judas was finally able to hit the move, but was slow to cover and Buck kicked out. Judas told Buck he couldn’t win. Out of the blue, Buck superkicked Judas again. Both were down. Buck covered and Judas kicked out. Judas ducked a superkick and went for El Crucifijo. Buck slipped away and chop blocked Judas. Buck applied the figure four. Judas goozled Buck to break the hold. Judas gave Buck a devastating double underhook suplex into the buckles. Judas tried to get the ref to make Buck quit. Judas came off the top with a clothesline and Buck caught him with a superkick as he landed. That was supposed to be the finish but the superkick hit Judas in the belly. A fourth superkick right in the button did the trick. I wouldn’t call it a great match. The battle of wills was compelling. They did about as well as possible with the David and Goliath aspect. That said, it was tough to suspend disbelief with Buck giving away 10 inches and 50 pounds. No question the clean finish elevated Buck and his stature as champion.
Postmatch – Hancock attacked Judas. Buck tried to help Judas and was attacked by Jagged Edge. Judas cleared the heels out of the ring. Judas & Buck vs. Jagged Edge (with Bailey) & Hancock (with Miss Rachael) was announced for February 28. I foresee problems with that team. Judas put the title belt on Buck’s shoulder and raised his hand.
They took a brief intermission to change out the canvas. No need to get blood stains on that brand new canvas.
(11) Bobby Moore defeated Todd Sexton (with John Johnson) in the Valentine’s Day Massacre Streetfight in 19 minutes. Sexton whacked Moore’s noggin with a street sign. They brawled into the concession stand. Moore slammed the refrigerator door on Sexton’s head which was pretty innovative. Moore opened up a can of Mountain Dew and bashed Sexton with it. Sexton punched Moore with a chain. Moore bled profusely. Sexton set Moore in a chair and kicked the crap out of him, but Moore sent Sexton’s head into the chair and Sexton bled. Sexton applied a crossface made more gruesome by a wooden rod across Moore’s mouth. The crowd got behind Moore, then chanted for tables. Moore got Sexton up for the Death Valley Driver, but Johnson thwarted the move. Moore brought a shitload of chairs into the ring. That did not end well for him. Sexton’s sunset powerbomb into the chairs came up a tad short. Sexton’s top rope elbow with Moore laying on the chairs did not. Sexton set a table up in the ring. That did not end well for him. Moore put Sexton through the table with the DVD, which looked and sounded pretty spectacular. Johnson pulled referee Ken Wallace out of the ring to prevent the three count. Taking matters into his own hands, Moore slugged JJ and tied him to the ropes by his tie. This gave Sexton time to recover. Sexton superkicked a chair into Moore’s face but Moore kicked out. Sexton put on Moore’s loaded elbow pad and tried for another top rope elbow drop. Moore blocked it a chair, then wrapped the chain around his arm and clocked Sexton with a discus forearm for a stellar finish to their story. No promotion in Georgia does violence like Anarchy does violence. This was bedlam. Sexton and Moore did enough new and different things to keep it interesting.
