The Memphis vibe was back in full effect this week AND we got quality wrestling in the main event to boot.
Triston Michaels and Steve Martin on commentary for NCW home video.
(1) Jaxon Vile defeated Damien Parker in 6:58. A much needed win for Vile albeit not in dominant fashion against a complete unknown. Parker stomped on a bag of candy and attacked Vile before the bell. Looked to be a good athlete. Kind of robotic at this stage of development. Vile did the unique sliding headbutt on the apron. They did some interesting things but it all felt pretty random and the crowd didn’t seem to be with them. Vile hit a frogsplash before putting Parker away with the Vile High (drops his opponent on his head from a fireman’s carry).
(2) Ashton Starr pinned Jaden Newman with a moonsault in 6:53. THIS was a dominant win. What a difference a week makes. Newman looked shockingly better. Some of the credit has to go to Starr. Newman did a good job of working the crowd. Their styles meshed well. Starr’s offense looked sharp with Newman ampflifying his bumping and selling.
(3) Alan Angels defeated NCW Tag Team Champions Disorderly Conduct (Will Kaution & Keith Gage) in a handicap match at 11:12. Angels said the only craziness about him was losing the tag titles when he didn’t get pinned and being able to beat Disorderly Conduct without a partner. Martin put Angels over huge as a guy with a future despite the loose screws. Crazy like a fox as things turned out. Kaution was in with Angels most of the way. Angels walked out on the match. Gage pursued him to the back. Moments later, Gage was lying in the entrance way and a chair flew out on the ramp. Kaution went to check on his partner and brawled with Angels. Back inside the ring, Kaution tried for a sunset flip and Angels pinned him while holding the ropes.
The program scores points for originality. Disorderly Conduct beat the Misfits non-title their first night in. Kaution beats Angels in a singles the next week. Disorderly Conduct won the titles. Then this. Hopefully, the tag titles have not been devalued to the point of worthlessness in the process. Disorderly Conduct and Misfits settle it once and for all in a two out three falls match next week.
David Garrison talked about the Caring Hands Ministries fundraiser on November 17 at Sautee-Nacoochee Cultural Center with Andrew Duckworth vs. Tim Miller, Dax Anthony vs. O’Shay Edwards, Hoss Michaels vs. Jacob Ashworth, the return of Cody McCulley and. Will Kaution vs. AC Mack. There will be no NCW show that night.
Garrison said he was still trying to book the main event. Out came Bobby Popham to again say no to a showdown with Rick Michaels. Rick came out with fire in his eyes. He upped the ante by making it a cage match (so nobody from either side could interfere) with security guard Rodney as the referee (because he was one of the select few they both trusted) and promising him a fight. Popham bought in. Rick apologized for overreacting at Popham’s show on September 30 by getting in the OSWA ring, then decked Popham with one punch. “Receipt! See you on November 17.” This segment got over largely due to the passion in Rick’s mic work.
(4) Ike Cross defeated Bolo in a blindfold match via submission in 6:27. Cross claimed he could beat Bolo with one arm tied behind his back or blindfolded so there you have it. They stumbled around. Cross mistakenly threatened to hit referee David Weakley. Bolo lifted up the hood enabling him to zero in. Bolo pulled out a taser and shocked himself touching the ringpost. They found each other. Bolo hit a gutwrench powerbomb. Cross applied a Walls of Jericho and Bolo tapped. They did well within the confines of the gimmick.
Matt Gilbert and Brent Banner fought all over the building last week because Banner made a move on the mother of his child to be, Katie Ohno and was being a complete asshole about it. Original NCW owner Steve Martin called them out for mea culpas. Friday night was Family Night and he wasn’t going to have that kind of thing in front of the kids. Gilbert did the right thing. Banner said he shouldn’t have to apologize to these mountain people. Something about Banner’s aura reminds me of Buddy Landell. I picture him in one of those sparkly robes. Martin said do it or else. Banner said he was sorry Gilbert wasn’t man enough to take care of his own woman.
“I’m not sorry for sh…” POW! Perfect timing. They went it like last week except they had the crowd behind them. Wrestlers rushed out to break it up. Martin fired Banner for failure to apologize and security hustled him out the front door.
(5) AC Mack pinned David Ali with the Mack 10 to retain the NCW Junior Heavyweight Championship in 15:05. It had urgency. A mix of wrestling and brawling. They worked a fast pace, but not too fast and sold for each other’s stuff. Mack brought his title belt into the ring. Referee Darryl Hall won the tug of war but got spun around. Preparation met opportunity. Mack mule kicked Ali in the nuts and sealed the deal with his finisher, a derivation of the Pedigree. Another strong showing by Ali. This loss hurts him not one bit.
