From SWA Deepsouth:
“There is no greater satisfaction than to vindicate their expectation.”
It was a hot, hot summer night in Pavo, GA at the Peacock Center as SWA presented “Vindicated”. Not just because of the temperature outside…but also because of the action that took place inside. Fresh off the crowning of a new SWA Heavyweight Champion just 2 weeks earlier, the rematch was on the horizon and a battle was set to commence.
The night started off in a normal fashion. “The Remedy” Will Hall introduced to the ring the SWA Commissioner Kyle Dubbya. Dubbya said that he was excited to announce that there were three huge Title matches set to take place that evening.
Before Dubbya could continue, music filled the building and out to the ring came JC Fury with Dandy Jack. Fury said that he & his partner Vernon were supposed to get their Title shot, but due to reasons beyond his control, his partner was not there that night.
Dubbya said that Black Fury’s Title shot was scheduled for that night, but he understands that situations unforeseen can come up. So, he’s an honorable man and he was willing to give them their Title shot at the Summer Showcase. Also, he would give another team a chance at the Titles here tonight.
As Dandy & JC prepared to leave, he was stopped by Dubbya. The Commissioner said that he was willing to give them a Title shot…he was willing to even let Black Fury choose the stipulation. However, he was also willing to take it away and give another deserving tag team the opportunity.
So, he told Fury that he would not get a night off just because his partner was not there. Instead, to keep their shot, he would have to face-off with one member of another tag team and if Fury lost, Black Fury would not get their Title shot at the Summer Showcase. If JC won, though, Black Fury would get to choose the stipulation for their Tag Team Title match in July.
Suddenly, the theme song signifying the Hardway Brothers played and out to the ring came Preston wielding a steel chair. He grabbed the mic and told Fury & Dandy he was in a bad mood and they better get out of the ring.
Hesitant at first, Dandy smiled and led his stableman out of the ring.
Preston then turned to Dubbya and said he was promised a match with Dark Rage…and he wanted it that night!
Dubbya said he would love to make that match, but Rage was not available to be there that night. He then reminded Preston that he was also told he was not needed there that night, either, and advised to go home and rest his past injuries.
Preston said that he was there for a fight with Rage. However, since he couldn’t get one member of Dandy’s clan, he would stay and watch the back of Ox Haney as he took on another man he knew very well, The Scoundrel.
Dubbya said he was fine with Veston being in Ox’s corner, but if he got involved in the match from bell to bell, there would be repercussions.
The first match of the evening saw one-half of TRL in Logan Stevens taking on the always surprising Dann Lydon. Both of these men worked a “light on their feet” style, trading maneuvers and each getting the upper hand. Somehow, as he’s been able to do in the past, Lydon was able to get behind Stevens and grab a roll-up, catching Logan off-guard just enough to obtain the victory for himself on this night.
That match was followed by one made earlier in the night as the other half of TRL, “The Pop Star” Johnny Romano, took on one-half of Black Fury, JC Fury. Fury came to the ring flanked by “The Manager with the Midas Touch” Dandy Jack, whose stable seems to quickly be filling up with gold. In a match to find out just who would face The Punkadelics for the SWA Tag Team Titles in July, both men looked to have the win in hand. Finally, it was Dandy who was the determining factor, distracting referee David Lee as Fury grabbed a Kendo stick and waylaid Romano. With that, it took only a pin by JC over the clearly knocked-out Popstar to earn Black Fury the Title shot and the opportunity to name the stipulation for the Title match at the Summer Showcase.
After the match, Fury continued his assault on Romano with the Kendo stick until Logan Stevens ran down to save his TRL partner. Stevens then said that he & Johnny would get their revenge on JC Fury…and he could even bring his partner Black if he wanted.
The third bout of the night was a battle between two top contenders in the SWA Heavyweight Title rankings. After an unsuccessful attempt at winning the SWA Heavyweight Title and the Motown Showdown just weeks earlier, Christopher Santos look to get himself right back into top contention with a victory on this night. Unfortunately, his opponent was to be “The Alaskan Warrior” Big O. Never one to let his size be a deterrent for him, Santos used a very technical style to take and keep the advantage for a majority of the match. Big O, though, would hit a huge move out of nowhere, only to have Christopher jump back on the attack soon after. Finally, it was Santos attempting to hit O with a succession of whips into opposing corners that led to the Warrior reversing and hitting his Big O Slam in the center of the ring, spelling the end for “The Professional” on this night.
After a brief intermission, it was time to find out just what two men would be getting a shot at the SWA Tag Team Titles. That question was soon answered as one of The Scoundrel’s hired guns, Chris Spyder, introduced his tag team partner on that night would be the Russian nightmare. Led to the ring by the Mayor, the Soviet Assassin sauntered down to the ring as these strange bedfellows made their way into the ring and awaited the Champions.
As music filled the Peacock Center, Vinny & James burst thru the curtains to a huge ovation. Back from hiatus, the Punkadelics jumped into action having not missed a step. They quickly took the fight to their foes, each getting in and getting some pent-up frustration over not being able to get their hands on Black Fury, the thorns in their sides, on that night. Finally, James locked in the Sharpshooter on the Soviet Assassin and, despite the Mayor’s pleas not to, the Russian was forced to tap out for the successful Title retention.
After the match, the Punkadelics’ celebration was cut short as JC Fury came out to the stage. Prepared for another fight, Fury told them that he was going to wait and let the Punks salivate to get in the ring with Black Fury. He wanted them to work themselves into a frenzy so that he & his partner Vernon Black could just swoop in and snatch the Titles away.
He prepared to leave but said that he had decided on a stipulation for their match, though. He said that for months all people have chanted at Black Fury was “YOU TAPPED OUT! YOU TAPPED OUT!” He then said that that was all going to change, because at the Summer Showcase…he planned to make the Punkadelics submit! With that, he made it official that the SWA Tag Team Titles would be defended at the Summer Showcase on July 21st…in a Submission Match!
As the dust settled on this revelation, it was then time for Roxy Rouge to defend the SWA Women’s Championship. Taking all comers, when Chelsea Durden stepped up and challenged her to a match, The Lady of the Midway was quick to accept. Chelsea seemed more focused on the Pavo crowd, who seemed to give her a verbal tongue-lashing in return. This seemed to be her downfall as Roxy took the opportunity to hit the Carnival Lights and continue her stake to the claim as the undisputed SWA Women’s Champion!
After the match, Roxy got on the mic and said that she was looking for a challenge at the Summer Showcase! She then made an open challenge to anyone who wanted a shot at her SWA Women’s Championship!
With that, it was time for the main event. It was just weeks earlier that the “The Scoundrel” Rod Grimes ended the 617-day reign of Ox Haney, becoming the new SWA Heavyweight Champion in a mere three seconds. On top of having a contractual rematch clause in his contract, Ox had never been pinned as it was a Triple Threat Match. So, it was time for their one-on-one return match.
Haney was a house of fire, taking the fight to Rod and showing he was not willing to take losing the Title lying down. He hit Grimes with move upon move, pin upon pin. However, with the ringside savvy of Dandy Jack guiding him, Rod seemed to squirm out of each attempt. Late in the contest, Dandy jumped on the apron and referee David Lee seemed dangerously close to banishing Jack from ringside. As Ox looked to go after the manager, he was turned and blinded by a handful of powder. With this and a roll up, the Scoundrel was able to eek out a win over the longest reigning SWA Heavyweight Champion to date.
Following the match, Grimes continued his assault of the former Champion, making it clear he never wanted to deal with Haney again. Finally, Preston Veston ran down to make the save. His attempts were short-lived, as a massive man in all black stormed down to the ring to head him off. This masked man and Rod then grabbed a table and double power bombed the Hardway Brother through it.
As the show drew to a close, a devastating scene saw the bodies of both Haney & Veston writhing in pain after the beating from Dandy’s stable men.
Where does this leave the SWA Heavyweight Title picture?
Who will be next in line for a Title shot? Will Haney get another opportunity following his controversial loss?!
Who will accept the open challenge made by the SWA Womens Champion Roxy Rouge?!
Who will “tap out” when the SWA Tag Team Titles are decided between Black Fury and the Punkadelics in a Submission Match?!
These questions and more will hopefully be answered when SWA returns to the Peacock Center in Pavo, GA for the 2018 Summer Showcase.
