From Nick McDaniel:
I’ll be honest with you. I wasn’t a big fan of the last SFCW show. It had some bright spots on it but as a whole, I went home disappointed. That was clearly not the case last night at Logan vs. Judas.
Some new stories began, some continued to develop, and a major story didn’t just conclude but so did a storied run. 300 people packed the Boy’s & Girls Club to witness an end of an era.
The opening match was “Remarkable” Ryan Rembrandt facing off with Cody Vance. Rembrandt plays the egotistical heel having referee Howell hold is robe and opening the ropes a la Ric Flair. Vance of course is a member of The Nightmare Family and is a babyface here in SFCW. The match was solid and it seems the two have been in the ring together before. The match was better than the reaction they got from the crowd but time and story will improve that. Vance would pick up the win following a Diamond Cutter and a Nightmare Kick.
Next up, Rick Richards called out Billy Buck to address the Tag Team Championship situation. Since the injury to Josey Quinn, Buck has been a man without a partner. Richards didn’t play around and just asked Buck “Who are you choosing to be your tag team partner?”. Before he could answer, Matt Sells’ music hits and Matt makes his way to the ring. He has been pleading with anyone and everyone to put a good word in for him to Buck to become his partner. Sells told Buck he totally understands his hesitation but in case he hasn’t read it in the dirt sheets, he ended his 449 day losing streak and that they could be the greatest SFCW Tag Champions ever. Buck said he appreacited the effort but he takes being champion seriously and tell Matt that he already has a partner beore exting the ring. The crowd seemed as disappointed as Sells as he made his way to the back.
Our next match would feature a heel Kyle Matthews facing off against Sugar Dunkerton. Suge started the match off with a little comedy by putting on Kyle’s jacket and mocking him. The match was not only a magnificent exhibition of technical skill but was every bit as entertaining. As the match progressed, I could only think how one can’t truly appreciate Suge’s skills unless you see him in person. He can grapple, fly around, and genuinely entertain. Matthews who is one of the best technical wrestlers around went step for step with him and the two gave an excellent match. The two went toe to toe but in the end Matthews would win with an Octopus Submission.
The third match of the night was for the SFCW Classics Championship. David Ali makes his way to the ring first. I really am not sure why but I have a very big hangup with the champion(s) coming out first. As the champion paces in the ring, Master & Machine’s music plays and out comes the challenger, Marcus Kross. Kross, however, was on crutches. He got on the mic and explained that M&M had gone up to ROH and performed in front of the biggest crowd ever for them but he had gotten injured and wouldn’t be able to perform. Ali, of course, assumed the forfeit but Kross said that he had been allowed to pick a replacement, Griff Garrison. The two put on a very good match with Ali putting good heat on Garrison setting up great reaction to his comeback. In a flurry, Griff looked to have the win in hand but Tyler Rivera hopped the rail and pulled referee Donnie Howell out of the ring and drilled him. Griff would fight him away only to be caught from behind by Ali in a roll up. Referee David Weakley ran down to make a count but Garrison kicked out. When the two made it to their feet, Griff nailed Ali with a spear and got the 1,2, 3. The fans screamed with excitement for the new champion only to have their hearts ripped out as the original ref Howell said that the match was a DQ win since Rivera hit him and yes Garrison was the winner but Ali is still champion. With Kross out for who knows how long, I’d look for more of these two down the road involving this title.
I assumed we would be heading to intermission but The Approved make their way to the ring for a chance at the SFCW Tag Team Champiobships. As they make their way to the ring, I asked myself is there anyone more hated by the Monroe crowd than Adrian Hawkins & The Approved? If so, I don’t know who it is. Billy Buck comes out first and stops at ringside for the big reveal of his partner. The crowd gave a nice reaction when it is revealed to be Will Kaution. A brawl breaks out at one point on the floor and out of nowhere Xander Ramon came out and started fighting with Kaution. The two would continue at it and fight all the way into the back leaving Buck al alone. After this point the match became a real heat match. The Approved had Buck two (or 3) on one and were wearing him down non stop. As Buck fought his way back, Matt Sells ran down the aisle and extended his hand for the save. Everyone was ready when the tag occurred. After a couple super kicks, Sells hit a stunner and git the win.
Post match, the crowd chanted for Buck to take Sells as his partner and champions. Buck handed over the title and the fans went absolutely bananas. Not only has Matt Sells won two matches in a row but he is also now one half of a the SFCW Tag Team Champions.
After intermission, Todd Sexton came to the ring and said that the next show would be on March 7th. It would be special because returning from injury would be none other than one of the best technical wrestlers in Ga, Slim J. Kyle Matthews interrupted and pointed out that he was Mr. Technical Wrestler in Ga and to make sure Slim J knew that. Todd asked if he wanted to face Slim J and Kyle accepted making it official that the two would face off on the March 7th show.
After Matthews’ exit, Todd brought down Sal Rinauro to discuss his situation since breaking his arm. Sal came down with his parnter Michael Stevens and both seemed in a very somber mood. Sal gave an emotional speech and discussed his love for his family, the business, and his journey in it. He said that people didn’t know that breaking his arm was poor timing as he was supposed to be heading to WWE NXT and NWA to work. NXT said maybe net time but NWA let him come in and help out. It did make him wonder if 20 years is enough and is it time? Before he could answer the question, Michael Stevens level him from behind with a superkick. The crowd was silently stunned as Rinauro was carried to the back.
It was finally time for our main event. Mikael Judas made his way to the ring first and Richards announces that it is a Last Man Standing and the only way to win is for your opponent to be unable to answer a ten count. The fans have really gotten behind Judas and shower him with cheers as he makes his way to the ring. Next out is the champion, Logan Creed. As usual, he is accompanied by Brookly Creed and Dr. Joseph Brock III. The giants get face to face and I can only smile and think “This is wrestling”. Two larger than life athletes facing off for the biggest prize in the company on the line. I didn’t expect it to be pretty and I wouldn’t be wrong. Right out of the gate, Judas hits a Scorched Earth on Creed. While Logan was recovering, Brooklyn tried to get involved but Judas caught her and looked like he was about to hit her with a choke slam like last month. Dr. Brock came in to save her but he was caught as well but before Judas could execute the move, Brock simply passed out. Logan then hit Judas from behind with the belt and told Brooklyn to go to the back. She was angered by this and slapped him before leaving. Now the match would essentially kick it into full gear. The two men would fight all over the building and used everything from tables, chairs, barricades, and more to assault each other. After fighting thru the crowd, they make their way back to the ring and Creed is pushing a dolley full of chairs with him. The ring would eventually be filled with chairs and a barricade but they continued to battle around it. Logan would eventually be caught with a choke slam off the turnbuckle onto the barricade but even that wouldn’t keep The Heathen down. As he continued to fight back, Judas would again catch him off the turnbuckle but nailed him with a Attitude Adjustment (FU) onto 4 chairs. Creed would STILL answer the count at 8 sitting up Undertaker like. Judas too a chair and smashed Creed in the face and then slammed the crowd barricade on top of him. He told referee David Weakley to count and you could hear the moment building as the crowd counted along. The crowd cheered like crazy after counting ten and crowing a new SFCW Champion.
Post match, Judas posed on all four corners for the crowd before exiting out the side door with the title. Back in the ring, Creed was motionless under all the chairs and barricade due the damage inflicted on him. He was there long after most of the crowd left the arena and even when exiting he still refused help from anyone. Have we seen the last of Logan Creed in SFCW? Maybe. IF we have, he leaves the company in a much better place than when he became champion and is off to be a player in MLW for sure.
Where does SFCW go now? Who can stand up to challenge Judas? Will Griff Garrison get a rematch with David Ali? Now partnered with Buck as tag champions, does Matt Sells keep up his winning ways? Who wins when Slim J returns to face off with Kyle Matthews? These questions and more are sure to be answered at the next show on March 7th at the Boys & Girls Club in Monroe.
