ProSouth returned to action with show number 522 after an unscheduled two week break due to COVID issues.
New storylines were unveiled in the aftermath of Wicked Havoc. The show was in the zone in terms of pacing and match lengths.
ProSouth is facing challenges related to turnover in their roster.
The Audio Problem reared its ugly ahead again this week. Not to dwell on a sore subject, but it’s limiting factor on the success of ProSouth’s Youtube and livestream of the show.
Ring announcer James Hardy was hobbling around a crutch after being tossed off the ramp at Wicked Havoc and crying like a baby.
All-Out Tournament winner Brandon Whatley got on the mic – couldn’t hear him. I gleaned he wanted his All-Out title shot now.
Our broadcast team is Hardy and Faith Dorn. Wicked Nemesis and Shane Noles, who are in the running for announcer of the year, have disappeared without a mention. I’ve enjoyed Hardy’s commentary with Noles. Dorn was a nice compliment to Noah Howell as his broadcast partner. The two of them together will take some getting used to. They certainly let things breathe.
(1) Cameron Keast defeated Brandon Whatley to retain the ProSouth All-Out Championship in 6:58. Whatley’s offense looked good for the most part. His kick to the jaw looked great. Tights pulled by Keast and Whatley’s face met the buckle to turn the momentum in the champion’s favor. Whatley hit a basement leg lariat and got a very close near fall using a pinning position that no way, no how was going to win him the title. Keast hooked the ropes to block Whatley’s rockbottom finisher and rolled him up for an extremely mediocre finish.
Keast berated a pitifully dejected Whatley after the match. The camera stayed with the shot of Whatley sitting in the ring for a really long time. Clearly, there’s a story in the works.
(2) Dameon Ceretone vs. Reynolds was a 32 second no contest. I’m a fan of Reynolds’ presentation and ring presence. If I could grant him one wish, it would six more inches in height. Reynolds gave Ceretone a belt and offered him a free shot at whipping him. Ceretone refused. Reynolds then tried to slug Ceretone with the belt. Ceretone ducked. He was now down with whipping and choking Reynolds with the belt. Reynolds laughed as if he was enjoying the pain. All this before the bell, thank God.
Ceretone hit a Death Valley Driver and was setting for the brainbuster with Attempted Murder (Alister & Dorian Crowe) attacked Reynolds. Eric Silva hit the ring and helped Ceretone clear out Attempted Murder. Reynolds was on the mat laughing his fool head off. Silva came face-to-face to Reynolds and laid him out with Paydirt. Reynolds again, was manically laughing.
Commissioner Amy Haven addressed ProSouth Champion Tyler Cullprett. Haven showed the clip from last Friday night at Southern Honor wherein Cullprett blasted her with his umbrella, knocking her off the apron. It looked horrifically, fantastically violent. Cullprett said Amy couldn’t fine, suspend or strip him of the title. Amy admitted as much, but she could make him face the winner of a Silva vs. Ace Haven main event at Black Friday on November 27. Amy and Cullprett did a good job in another segment marred by audio problems.
That brought Black Lariats Matter (Joe Black & William Huckaby) to the ring. Huck addressed Commissioner “Gordon” and “Cobblepot”. He asserted that if anyone should be in that match, it was Black. Amy wanted to add Huck to the match. Huck got all flustered and acted like he didn’t want any part of it, then said he would do it for Joe. Huck’s mic work was hilariously awesome in this segment.
Amy wasn’t done with Cullprett. She informed Cullprett he had a match right now.
(3) Tyler Cullprett (with Attempted Murder) defeated the debuting Marcus Erics in a non-title match (5:43). Erics is a beefy looking dude, who loomed large compared to Culprett and his minions. Cullprett was in the novel position of being the veteran in the match. Amy ejected Attempted Murder before long. Cullprett took advantage. He’s making smart choices with his moveset but he needs to improve his physical presence to get to a higher level. Erics got a big near fall with a Blue Thunder Bomb before Cullprett picked up the win with The Raindrop.
Cullprett crowned Erics with the umbrella. A tense alliance of Ace and Silva made the save with Amy looking on from the ramp.
(4) Robbie Vio defeated Roma Miller to retain the Youtube Championship in 8:39. Commissioner Amy was at ringside cheering for Vio. Blatant favoritism by the commish only serves Roma right for his atrocities against the Haven family. Some fairly insane moves in this match. Roma dropped Vio's face on the concrete with a draping twist of fate off the apron. Vio dropped Roma's head on the ring frame with an Air Raid Crash. Roma planted Vio with a DDT and tried to pin him with feet on the ropes but Amy shoved them off. Enter the perverse entertainment factor -- Roma brought a chair in and did the Eddie Guerrero spot right in front of the referee. As Miller plead his case, Vio kicked the chair into his face and pinned him.
(5) Handicap
Match: Austin Towers defeated Attempted Murder (Alister & Dorian Crowe) by
DQ in 5:56. Hardy said Towers was going to eat crow for dinner, which he did
until Attempted Murder got the big man down to put plausible heat on him. Towers
laid the brothers to waste and was preparing to end it with a double chokeslam
when Alister blinded him with the green mist. I have to hand it to the booking.
Towers blindly tried to fight back but came up empty as the Crowe brothers enjoyed the moment. I have to hand it the booking. This was a forgone conclusion gone wrong. It evoked sympathy for the giant, and it was the Lilliputians that came across like sadists.
(6) Trever Aeon defeated Chris Crunk in 12:36. Hardy said Crunk was answering Aeon’s open challenge. I must have missed that chapter. Crowd was split – Aeon turned heel but still has fan support. Crunk was more over than I expected from his past appearance. This Crunk was close to the AWE version except with more pizzazz. The show was in need of good wrestling at this point we got it in a totally modern style. They did a lot of stuff. Crunk withstood a double stomp to the back and appeared to be energized by the abuse he was taking. The match ended with Aeon hitting a series signature moves leading to Oyasuminasai, a sitout hammerlock facebuster and one of the greatest names for a finishing move ever
(7) Ace Haven (with Amy Haven) defeated William Huckaby and Eric Silva in a number on contender match for the ProSouth Championship in 5:45. Best match of the night. For a show not known for production, at least not in a good way, gotta say the intros for this match were beautifully staged and had the crowd going. Ace took one of his bumps of death on the apron. Huck and Silva were laying them in on each other. The final minutes was big moves and saves with all three coming close to taking it. In the end, Huck went for a pop spinebuster and Ace reversed him with a roll up, leaving Huck in a state of shock.
Amy celebrated Ace’s victory.
Cullprett
came to the ring and was face-to-face with Ace as the show went to black. Cullprett
vs Ace II happens next Friday.
