Southern Violence and Wrestling presented “War Ensemble” Saturday July 10 at Southern Brewing Company in Athens Ga. Attendance was a rowdy and loud 250. It was standing room only inside the Taproom to witness one of the most shocking nights in the history of SVW.
The night started with ring announcer Cole Taylor introducing the challenger for tonight’s SVW championship match, Ehren Black. This match had originally been slated to be Bobby D challenging SVW champion Charlie Anarchy. (Bobby D was unable to compete due to injuries sustained in the last man standing match two weeks ago in Commerce, Ga) Black came to the ring and mentioned that while he wished Bobby the best, he had been working for years to challenge for a singles title, and he was not going to refuse, when the SVW offices called and presented him with an opportunity. He said that while he had all the respect for Anarchy, and had traveled up and down the roads with him and considered him a friend, he would do whatever it took to walk out with the Gold. This brought out Anarchy who said that while he agreed that there was a mutual amount of respect, Black’s opportunity wasn’t going to come at his expense. Black suggested that since they were both so fired up, and the fans were ready, they should start this show off with the title match right now. Anarchy accepted and the match was on
SVW Heavyweight Title Match- Charlie Anarchy(c) vs Ehren Black
The mutual admiration didn’t last long. This match, featuring two of the heaviest strikers in SVW saw both men throwing bombs, and both were connecting. Anarchy treated Black to a series of his belly to back suplexes, quite impressive considering the much larger opponent. Black battled back and almost had the championship after a series of power moves including a muscle buster. Black moves like a young Bam Bam Bigelow. Both men were down and exhausted, when suddenly two unknown individuals from the crowd hit the ring, they put the boots to both Anarchy and Black, and beat them savagely. The invaders were revealed as Trevor Aeon, and Eric Silva. Before any more damage was done, SVW Hoss Fight Champion Austin Towers hit the ring and made the save, sending Aeon and Silva retreating to the entryway. Silva grabbed a mic and said, soon you will know who they are, but what’s more important is why are they here? Silva said it was simple, to “bring SVW to it’s f**king knees!”
Winner: No Contest
SVW Tag Team Championship Three Way Dance - The Gotch Brothers( c) vs Black Sheep Squadron (Tyler Graves and Perfect Sam) vs “Lone Wolf” Jerry Nelms and Irving West
The Gotches, making their first defense in Athens since winning the titles have already made quite the connection with the fans. Black Sheep Squadron, the resident delinquents at SVW showed a lot of teamwork with no fear of bending the rules to their advantage. The crowd was fascinated with the oddball pairing of Irving West with the SVW original Nelms. This match was contested under elimination rules. Nelms and West were eliminated first, and The Gotches eventually got the pin on Perfect Sam after a devastating doomsday device-esque top rope bulldog, and a spear/Russian leg sweep combo. Something tells us the tag team division at SVW is just heating up.
Winners and Still SVW Tag Team Champions: The Gotch Brothers
Axel Foley vs Kamikaze Kid
Fresh off his victory over Machine, Kamikaze Kid is a young up and comer in SVW that boasts an impressive high flying offense. He was in for a test tonight against the veteran and former 2x SVW Champion, Foley. Foley seemed to be in a darker, more brooding mood, as has been the case even since the disbanding of FAME. Foley spent the first few minutes trying to out wrestle the kid. He was seemingly growing frustrated as the Kid matched him counter for counter and hold for hold. Foley eventually was able to hit the top rope elbow and locked Kamikaze Kid in the camel clutch. The same move he used to end the career of Ryan Murdoch in June.
Winner: Axel Foley
After the match, Foley made his exit, when familiar music hit. It was the music from a disturbing cryptic video shared on SVW social media earlier this week. Machine made his way to the ring flanked by former fan favorite Vincent Only. Only was decked out in a black suit carrying some type of book. Machine stood over the fallen Kamikaze kid as Only leaned down and said, “When you arise, you will have become something greater than you can comprehend” Only then addressed the crowd and stated that Kamikaze Kid didn’t ask for this. Rather, he was chosen. Only looked into the crowd and said, if you are lucky, HE will choose you too, because HE will show the way. Machine then carried Kid out over his shoulder as the unsettling music resumed. This was truly unsettling and disturbing.
Serpent Assassin Brandon Whatley vs CT Keys
Prematch, Whatley took exception to comments made by the returning Keys. Whatley said he had never seen eye to eye with anyone at SVW from the front office all the way down to the fans. He said that despite all that, this was home, and nobody was gonna stand out here and disrespect his home.
What followed was one of the greatest pure wrestling matches in SVW history. This one is a must see on the upcoming FITE TV broadcast. Whatley’s new attitude immediately brought the fans to his side, eliciting a “nunchucks” chant at several points of the match. Keys and Whatley went strike for strike and hold for hold with neither ever gaining a strong advantage. These guys were hitting each other with everything and then some. For a show known for violence, bloodshed and mayhem, These two showed how hard hitting and brutal a match can be using just the human anatomy. Whatley scored the sudden pin via a reversal trapping Keys in a small package and the fans erupted.
Winner: Brandon Whatley
SVW Hoss Fight Championship- Austin Towers(c) vs Geter
These two monsters collided in the latest chapter of their rivalry. The fans have firmly aligned themselves behind “The Chief”, Towers, and he was going to need all that support tonight against Geter who was focused and bent on destroying him. Geter and Towers were throwing everything they had at each other. Both men were knocked off their feet at times, which was not a position the SVW fans were accustomed to seeing either man in. Towers was knocked to the floor. Before Geter could capitalize, Trevor Aeon and Eric Silva hit the ring again. Silva and Aeon beat Geter down with a steel pipe. They were out to make a statement. They were interrupted when SVW Champion Charlie Anarchy and his opponent from earlier, Ehren Black hit the ring. They backed off the invaders as Towers regrouped and entered the ring. The fans were ready to see the SVW favorites hand Silva and Aeon their asses. Suddenly, and without warning, Towers decapitated Ehren Black with a huge kick. Then Towers, Silva, and Aeon decimated the champion. Anarchy, Geter and Black lay destroyed in the ring. Towers grabbed the microphone and said, to answer a question posed earlier, they are The Left Hand Path, and they have arrived to dominate and destroy SVW and no one is safe. Fans pelted the trio with cups, beer, trash, and even a bag of gummi bears. The show ended as The Left Hand Path surveyed their destruction, putting the exclamation mark on a truly shocking debut.
SVW comes to the Southern Brewing Company’s Monroe Georgia facility on Saturday August 14, featuring the SVW debut of Mance Warner.
