ProSouth Wrestling closed out the year with a one night, eight man tournament to determine the number one contender for the YouTube Championship held by Cameron Keast.
Not a lot happening on the surface but a fair amount bubbling underneath.
"King of the Dead" Shean Christopher emerged as the tournament winner with a dominant performance. Christopher scored three pinfall wins in a total time of less than 15 minutes, including a win over Cornelius Pepperbottom in the finals.
But Keast and his nasty kids made sure the night did not end well for Christopher and Ravenna Vein.
The announce team was Mathias Darkthorne and ProSouth Champion Marcus Eriks.
As Darkthorne was signing off, Dameon Ceretone attacked Eriks in the announce booth, then laid him out in the middle of the ring with his finisher as the show went to black.
Tyler Sutton returned in a non-tournament match and went full on babyface.
The tournament was named to mark the company's return o Twitch as a streaming platform. ProSouth episodes will stream live on Fridays nights at 8:30 Eastern on both YouTube and Twitch.
Amy Haven handled the ring announcing as regular ring announcer James Hardy was an entrant in the tournament. Lewis Santiago officiated all eight matches on the show.
(1) Opening round: Shean Christopher (with Ravenna Vein) pinned the debuting Anthony Oliver with Dirty Pretty in 5:04.
The video was so glitchy, this was hard to watch. The good news the video was fine for the rest of the show.
(2) Opening round: the debuting Dak Ryan defeated Dorian via submission in 7:13. Ryan stepped aside to allow Dorian's momentum to spill him through the ropes. Ryan posted Dorian's arm a couple of times, applied a Fujiwara armbar and Dorian tapped without much of a struggle.
Ryan is a good looking kid with some skills.. The boy needs to put some meat on his bone. That he went over shows just how far Dorian's stock has fallen.
(3) Opening round: Cornelius Pepperbottom defeated Roma Miller in 6:20. Pep pinned Roma with feet on the ropes.
Roma is still way over with the added bonus is that he now has halfway decent matches. He and Santiago had their timing and ring positioning right on the finish.
(4) Opening round: James Hardy defeated Christian Garrett (with Harley Haven) in 2:48. Hardy was in full Michigan Wolverine mode and was the butt of of jokes as usual. The commentators talked about how he shave his head but not his back to where it looked like he had a sweater on. Harley interfered with a stylishly delivered hotshot, Garrett went for the pin but Hardy kicked out and hit the Eviscerator
After the match, Keast berated Garrett for losing, really tore him a new one.
(5) Semifinal round: Christopher defeated Ryan in 13 seconds. Vein gave Christopher a good luck kiss on the ramp and went to the back. Christopher rolled Ryan up with the first move of the match.
Well-played. No need for Vein to be at ringside.
(6) Semifinal round: Pepperbottom defeated Hardy in 7:14. Hardy introduced himself as the soon-to-be ring announcer of the year. Pep said the match was more spotlight than Hardy was ever going to get in his miserable life. Hardy disgusted EVERYBODY but rubbing his armpit on Pepperbottom's face. Pep tried in vain to put JH to sleep. Pep wrapped his short around Hardy's throat. As Santiago was getting rid of the shirt, Pep KOed Hardy with a chain for the 1-2-3.
Afterward, Hardy sold the chain shot like death,
Warped entertainment trumps mat classic. Pepperbottom advances like a scoundrel. He's all in, he sells and the guy can talk. Hardy is an acquired taste. For better or worse, I've acquired it.
(7) Tyler Sutton defeated Jabari Jones (with Montgomery Penfield) in a non-tournament match (3:24). Penfield said he didn't come from Atlanta to be dissed by some chumps. Sutton's response was pure, pandering babyface. Sutton with a flying boot followed by codebreaker/lungblower to pick up the win.
I liked how Sutton's turn as staged and executed. Color Jones and Montgomery green. Montgomery's promo was generic material and not well delivered. It looked like Jones didn't know how to take Sutton's last two moves, which made for a lackluster finish.
(8) Christopher (with Vein) defeated Pepperbottom to win the tournament in 8:08. Pepperbottom tried for the feet-on-the ropes pin that worked in the opening round but Vein foiled him. Pep then went for the chain he used in the semifinals but Vein beat him to it. Dirty Pretty by BC and it was over.
Nice little story. Pep got plenty of offense and Christopher sold big. Christopher over decisively in the end.
Sore losers Oliver and Ryan attacked Christopher and gave him a lungblower/backbreaker double team. After they departed, Keast and Garrett hit the ring and started putting the boots to Christopher. Vein jumped in to aid her man but Harley clubbed her from behind with YouTube belt.
Keast got in Christopher's face talking trash before blasting him with a running knee.
As Darkthorne was signing off, Ceretone jumped into the booth, started pounding lumps on the champion and dragged him out of there..
Cut to the ring where Christopher is protecting his queen from further damage as Ceretone and Eriks brawl their way into the ring. Eriks tried and fails to hit Falling in Reverse and Ceretone says goodnight with Sleep the Deep.
An intense, chaotic last five minutes with a sneak preview of Christopher vs. Keast and Eriks vs. Ceretone.
