This was the “Nightmare” show with a Halloween theme, featuring a ladder match for the NCW Junior Championship, a special appearance by Jimmy Rave and a costume contest during intermission.
AC Mack came out on top in the ladder match over co-champion Jaxon Vile. Mack and Vile lost the tag titles last week so Vile has the dubious distinction of losing two championships in two weeks.
Rave and Owen Knight had a great match.
The other big news was the NCW Tag Team Champions the Misfits being upset in a non-title match by Disorderly Conduct from OSWA. The OSWA/NCW aspect was not mentioned on the commentary.
It was NCW’s second consecutive show with higher ticket prices ($8 vs. $5). The company will probably continue the higher price policy for major events.
The announce team of Triston Michaels and Steve Martin opened hyping the ladder match and Rave’s return.
Disorderly Conduct (Will Kaution & Keith Gage) upset NCW Tag Team Champions (Alan Angels & Tommy Maserati) in a non-title match at 11:30. They went right to an awkwardly executed dive sequence early that the crowd loved. The champions got heat on Gage was akin to child abuse. Commentary put Gage over for showing great resiliency and was very positive on Disorderly Conduct in general. I wouldn’t mind seeing an Angels/Kaution singles match. All four down to simultaneous quadruple nip ups. Misfit dominated but it wasn’t like they slipped on a banana peel as they lost clean in the middle of the ring to Disorderly Conduct’s finisher. Kaution pinned Maserati after a pop up powerbomb neckbreaker combo.
O’Shay Edward cut a pre-match promo. Edwards got his first chance to talk before the battle royal last week. His mic work has been a pleasant surprise.
(2) Luke Grimes defeated O’Shay Edwards in 5:56. Two big guys. Grimes has the size and a decent look. His offense lacked power. Edwards showed a lot of personality and some good choices in his offense – a fisherman suplex and a aamel clutch variation. Edwards escaped Grimes’ finisher and went for a running powerslam. Grimes reversed into an inverted twist of fate.
(3) David Ali defeated Matt Gilbert and Ashton Starr and Ike Cross and Tim Miller in a fatal five-way to become the number one contender for the NCW Junior Championship via pinfall on his former partner Gilbert at 7:43. A tower of doom spot saw Starr on the raw end as Martin aptly put it. Cross hit a flip dive on Ali. Bolo ran out and got revenge on Cross for tossing him out of the battle royal last week. Gilbert was the lone man standing in the carnage when he was gobsmacked by the sight of security delivering a rose to his pregnant wife Katie at ringside. Ali pinned Gilbert with a powerdrive back suplex.
Katie pleaded ignorance about the source of the rose but it looked like Matt wasn’t buying her story. God (and matchmaker Nigel Sherrod) only knows where this is going.
Rick Michaels called upon Bobby Popham to answer his challenge for November 17. Popham wasn’t there and had been crystal clear last week that his answer was N-O but things change.
(4) Jimmy Rave defeated Owen Knight via submission in 11:20. Rave and Knight gave NCW a taste of the AWE Southern Strong Style brand with a boatload of stiff strikes and big moves for near falls. Technically, the match was several cuts above of what NCW fans are used to seeing. Knight is probably the best babyface AWE has right now. It was a babyface match and the crowd was pretty quiet because they didn’t have any investment in either one of these guys. Knight kicked out of the smallest package in pro wrestling but Rave got him with the satellite headscissors into the crossface.
Kurt Kyle said he had gone to the office and gotten Steve Martin to ban Hoax’s finishing move. Kyle went on to say he would beat all three members of Still Skins.
The participants in the costume contest were given the honor of accompanying Still Skins to the ring.
(5) Kurt Kyle defeated Still Skins (Hoax & Manson & Mr. Skins) via DQ in 3:04 when Mr. Skins used Hoax’s Nailbiter. Kyle beat on Manson early. Skins used this great looking spinning punch but carried away and hit the banned move on Kyle. Still Skins shrugged off the loss and celebrated. Short and sweet on the ring time is way to go with them. It’s their antics that resonate with the NCW fans.
(6) AC Mack defeated Jaxon Vile in a ladder match to regain sole possession of the NCW Junior Championship in 13:10. It was OK as ladder matches go. There was some lackadaisical ladder climbing. It’s a tough building to do a credible ladder match in because it only takes a 7 foot ladder to reach the ceiling. Referee Darryl Hall was accidentally obliterated by Mack’s flying back elbow. Vile planted Mack on his head and splashed him off the ladder to set up a successful climb for the belt. Hall was still face down on the mat. As Vile was attempting to revive Hall, Mack gave Vile a low blow and laid him out with the Mack 10. Mack climbed up the ladder with the belt and waited for Hall to see him – a clever finish befitting Mack’s sly character.
