This week’s show had some different faces in the mix with generally positive results, a title switch and a partial title switch, and a classy send off for a veteran Georgia star at the end.

Hoax and Mr. Skins provided the strangest broadcast team in Landmark Arena history. Hoax is weirdly entertaining at times and aggravating at others. Mr. Skins had intelligent things to say but it was hard to take a guy that sounds like Mr. Bill from the old Saturday Night Live skits seriously. 

(1) Zach Daniels defeated Bolo in 5:30. Bolo pulled out handcuffs but before he could use them, Daniels hit the Air Raid Crash. 

(2) The title match between NCW Junior Champion AC Mack and Jaxon Vile ended with both declared winners at 8:24. I liked how they played off key spots from their previous match but changed up the results – Mack kicking out of the roll up out of the corner that he got pinned by and Vile connecting with the drive by headbutt that missed. A Mack superplex followed by a cradle saw both men’s shoulders on the mat at the count of three. Referee Darryl Hall raised both of their hands. They had a tug of war for the belt with no announced resolution so I guess they each have a share of the title for the time being. 

(3) James Drake pinned Ashton Starr in 6:48. Drake won it with a double underhook corkscrew suplex. The booking did Starr no favors here. What was the point of Starr, a regularly featured babyface, being beaten by an EVOLVE guy in for a one shot? Drake manhandled him for most of the match and Starr’s offense didn’t look particularly effective against a guy with Drake’s size. 

(4) Brooklyn Creed vs. Stormie Lee (with Franciso Ciatso) was a no contest. Lee was giving Brooklyn a shellacking with the help of outside interference by Ciatso. Good showing by Stormie. Her snap mares looked brutal and her camel clutch had a lot of torque and she bumped big when the time came for her just dessert. 

Lights out…Logan Creed in the ring.

Logan said he was supposed face Ciatso one on one but since it was obvious Stormie couldn’t get the job done on her own…

(5) Logan & Brooklyn Creed defeated Francisco Ciatso & Stormie Lee in a mixed tag match at 7:22.  Ciatso received his comeuppance. Brooklyn kicked Ciatso south of the Equator while the ref’s back was turned and Logan kicked him in the head to score the pinfall.

(6) The Misfits (Alan Angels & Tommy Maserati) defeated Matt Gilbert & David Ali to retain the NCW Tag Team Championship in 12:45. Ali went at it hot and heavy with Angels which was the only right thing to do after the way their best of five ended. Gilbert’s offense looked crisp. Tide turned when Gilbert gave chase smack into a slingshot spear from Maserati and Angel’s crooked moonsault. Hoax “barefoot brawler” Gilbert refused to accept his offer to give him shoes. “There’s no honor in covered feet apparently.” He referred to Angels as “frog of war”. Maserati became “Miata”. Gilbert had Maserati tapping to a knee bar but Angels had made a blind tag and flipped Gilbert on his noggin from a reverse DDT position. Good match. 

(7) “Jailhouse Rocker” Terry Lawler defeated Andrew Duckworth to regain the NCW Heavyweight Championship in 12 minutes. Lawler came on top in the straight up wrestling. Duckworth tried to be a smart ass. That did not end well so he slid out. Lawler went after him and got planted on the apron with a back suplex. Duckworth went after Lawler’s back big time, piling on the disrespect. Lawler tried for a backslide but his back couldn’t handle it. Lawler used a sleeper hope spot. Duckworth applied an abdominal stretch using the ropes for extra leverage and got caught by referee Hall. Lawler with a bionic comeback and a floatover side Russian legsweep for two. Lawler ducked Duckworth’s springboard blockbuster and almost had him pinned so Bolo came out to cause trouble. Zach Daniels handcuffed Bolo the apron and Lawler came within an eyelash of pinning the champion. Duckworth instigated a ref bump and tried for a belt shot but Lawler ended up with the title in his hands. Duckworth literally ran into the belt. Lawler hesitated before getting a visual fall on the champion with no ref to count. Referee David Weakley hit the ring and made the three count.

I marked out for the old school southern nature of this match. A fitting way for Lawler to go out.

Postmatch – NCW gave Lawler a huge send off. With all of the babyfaces in the ring applauding and “Burning Love” playing the background, Lawler retired holding the NCW Heavyweight Champion.
