From GPW:
GPW hosted Hot Summer Nights on July 13 at the Old Buffington Gym in Canton. Due to cancellations, the advertised card had to be modified prior to show time. Woody was on hand and running the show, filling in for Darrell Morris. Referees were Jonathon Chastain and Nathaniel Spivey. Ring announcer was Miss Brittany. Attendance for this show was 137.
Cyrus becomes the #1 Contender for the GPW Southern States Championship in an over-the-top-rope battle royal. After a match full of hard hits and eliminations, the remaining four entrants are Cyrus, Cletus, Erik Havoc, and Matt Sells. Eliminations for Cletus and Havoc leave Matt Sells alone with Cyrus the Destroyer. After psyching himself up to take on the monster, Matt Sells decides to fight another day, stepping over the top rope and eliminating himself.
Post-Match: Erik Havoc and Jaxson Cassel attack Cyrus from behind. Cletus comes in for the save and says Havoc and Cassel “must be stupid or something” for attacking the biggest man in the building. Cletus asks for a tag match with Cyrus against Havoc and Cassel in the main event, and Woody agrees.
Shaggy def. J.D. and Cameron Cox in a triple-threat match to retain his spot as co-Cruiserweight Champion in 13:23. As listed on the advertised card, this match was announced as a Cruiserweight Championship match. Shaggy enters the ring ready to fight, saying he is the one true Cruiserweight Champion. He calls out Torque, saying he is “too chicken” to show up and that Torque has stolen the belt and ran off. Gabe Walters enters with his clients, J.D. and Rock-Candy Cameron Cox. He says that Shaggy is the one who is “too chicken” to find Torque and take what is rightfully his. He says that he has competitors who are ready to wrestle and will take Shaggy’s spot as co-Cruiserweight Champion, then bring back the gold where it belongs. Shaggy says he came for a fight, so he will wrestle them both. JD and Cox team up on Shaggy throughout the match, but Shaggy is able to capitalize while Cox is down and hit JD with a spinebuster for the win.
Kenzie Henry def. Matt Sells in 9:45. Matt Sells enters the ring and says that he is ready to win his first match of 2019. He is feeling so confident that he issues an open challenge to anyone in the back. He might should have considered his wording when he said “anyone” because Kenzie Henry accepts the challenge. Sells tries to reason with Kenzie, but she insists on having the match. Sells remains conflicted throughout the contest, wanting to get the win but not wanting to harm the female wrestler. This ultimately costs him the match, as, during a moment of hesitation by Sells, Kenzie catches him with a roll-up for the win.
Swiss def. Ray Ray in 12:48. Swiss begins with a promo talking about he has the best abs in the universe, getting instant heat from the crowd. This cruiserweight battle is back-and-forth throughout with both men showing their ability and speed. Fans were robbed of seeing who the better man truly is, as Swiss uses the ropes illegally to pin Ray Ray. Post-match, Ray Ray pleads his case to the referee (who says he didn’t see Swiss’ feet on the ropes), and fans shout for a rematch.
Cyrus and Cletus def. Erik Havoc and Jaxson Cassel in 12:12. Pre-match: After Cassel and Havoc enter the ring, Cletus and Cyrus run in from the front door and attack Cassel/Havoc from behind. They quickly begin brawling on the outside before the referee can even ring the bell. Cyrus and Cassel take their fight into the stands, announcing booth, and onto the hard gym floor when Cyrus hits Cassel with a suplex. Havoc and Cletus took their fight to the other side of the building, fighting both in the crowd and the merchandise stand. Cletus attempts to run Havoc’s head into a steel chair, but that backfires as Havoc blocks and runs Cletus’ head into the chair. This leaves Cletus laying as Havoc moves to assist Cassel with Cyrus. Cassel hits Cyrus with a hammer, and they double team him. They move Cyrus to the ring to officially start the match and pin him, but Cletus comes in for the save.
The referee officially rings the bell to start the match. Cassel and Havoc control most of the match, as Cyrus and Cletus are still feeling the effects of the hammer and chair, respectively. Cletus takes heat from both. Jaxson misses a splash, and Cletus is able to get to the corner and tag Cyrus. Cyrus hits a monster cannon ball on Cassel and Havoc in the corner. Cassel takes a black hole slam from Cyrus, and Cletus gives Cassel a possum stomp. As Cyrus goes to climb the ropes for a Vader Bomb, Havoc attempts to spear him from behind. Cletus steps in front to take the spear, allowing Cyrus hit a huge Vader Bomb on Cassel for the win.
