It’s been a couple of months since I’ve been at WGW, they’re plugging away, pretty as you please, here in West Georgia. Matches happening, debuts debuting, and blood is being spilled, what more do you want? Tonight’s show is billed as Honoring the Champion as Lamar Phillips has been WGW champion for over 500 days and he will be generous with offering an open challenge to anyone in the locker room for a chance at his title. Very close to 100 in the Buchanan Horse Auction at bell time, over 120 by the second match, possibly over if you count children under 2 y.o.a
WGW GM Scott East opens by saying that Brad Lynch and The Mercenary have been suspended 30 due to their actions at the last show.
1st match: Tony Midas and Brother Azrael vs. Blue Collar Cowboys (Jimmy the Kid and Aaron Dallas)
Midas makes Jason Boyd spray the air with the aerosol cans. Big pop for Jimmy and Dallas who come to cowboy-themed gear. Does Jimmy the Kid ever age? The crowd is pleading for Dallas to break Midas’ arm. Midas takes the punishment until he rakes the eyes of Dallas. He tags out to Azrael and the big man pounds away on Dallas. Dallas tries to fight his way out but gets his leg clipped by Midas. The leg is really getting worked over, and Jimmy runs to save Dallas. The crowd rallies to Dallas, he manages an enziguri on Azrael and then the hot tag. Jimmy goes off and delivers the top rope elbow to Midas, but Azrael has got the ref distracted. Azrael is in now after, Jimmy tries for a sunset flip, Dallas comes in and helps get Azrael over for the pin at 13:34
After match shenanigans, with Dallas meeting the aerosol cans and Azrael pile driving Jimmy. The double team Dallas and Midas grabs a chair and repeatedly slams it into the knee of Dallas. A case of losing the battle but winning the war.
2nd match: Brian Alexander with Vic Alexander vs. Sean Nelson
A bit of West Georgia Old School here. Vic is Alexander’s daughter. During a test of strength, Vic sneaks in between the legs of Brian, trying to pound on the feet of Nelson. Nelson gets some revenge with a baseball slide. Shenanigans with Brian and Vic on Nelson. Nelson fires up and gets a near fall from a leg drop. Brian pins Nelson with the feet on the ropes with an assist from Vic at 7:08.
This was Vic’s debut and she really got the crowd to hate her. Nelson is pissed. His tag partner Josh Storm, who was sitting ringside comes to the ring to console him. Storm pumps up Nelson, but Nelson attacks Storm from behind, leaving Storm laying in the ring. Looks like this is it for Dem West Ga. Boyz. Storm is held back by security as he tries to run to the back after Nelson. Storm’s not on the card so he’s not allowed in the back.
3rd match: Marco Wicker vs. Zach Buchanan
I believe this is Zach’s 3rd match and first single match. I’ve noted on social media that this is the second Buchanan Wick has faced off with. Wick doesn't even let Zach into the ring, attacking him on the outside. Wick’s schooling Zach, cutting everything off and working the leg. Nice T-bone from Wick. Ankle lock by Wick, Zach rolls through and Wick tastes the turnbuckle. Zach’s firing back with fists and flap jacks Wick. The House of Timbs (Wolfgang and Kenneth Timbs with Luther Evans) comes out and they attack Zach. Ref Hall calls for the DQ at 5:32.
They are looking to injure Zach and Bull Buchanan runs out and chases them off with a chair. Father and son stand tall with Zach selling the leg. Bull’s on the mic, on Oct 29th at Gold Dust park, he’ll get some friends to take on The House of Timbs.
Intermission.
Jason Boyd brings out Frankie Valentine and Tweety. Valentine brings his niece to the ring to sing happy birthday to her. Timbs poked his head out the curtain quickly and booed the singing. Heels being heels, gotta love it. Boyd brings out WGW Champion Lamar Phillips. Phillips’s on the mic, this is his 20th wrestling anniversary. He says that GHW doesn’t put him over, so fuck us. This is an open challenge and the rookie AJ Black comes out. AJ’s 3rd generation, Doug Summers was his step-grandfather, and Frankie is his uncle.
4th match: AJ Black vs. Lamar Phillips for the WGW Championship
Phillips slaps Black, Black takes him down, and goes for several quick pins. Phillips had enough and pins Black at 30 seconds. Phillips takes a belt off of the ref and straps Black a couple of times. Tweety’s out and Phillips wants to piledrive her and this brings out Frankie who chases Phillips out of the ring. Frankie never cashed in his rematch and wants to now! 5th match: Frankie Valentine with Tweety vs. Lamar Phillips for the WGW championship. Phillips beat Valentine for the title over 500 days ago: it was a war then; it should be a war now. They exchange some words and then shoves, then fists, Phillips retreats from the ring to regroup. Phillips takes his time getting into the ring and exchanges pleasantries with the crowd. Frankie pulls him in the hard way and Phillips retreats again. Back in the ring, Frankie sends Phillips back out again. Frankie splashes Phillips and then goes for a cross body, Phillips catches him and slams him down. Frankie is in the corner, Phillips charges and eats the ring post when Frankie moves out of the way. They fight out into the crowd for a tick, and Frankie gets slammed into the ring post. They go up the bleachers, people scrambling out of the way. Phillips gets sent into the wall and almost tumbles down. Phillips sends Frankie back into the ring post and drags the ring steps to that side with bad intentions. Whatever Phillips had in mind, Frankie reverses it and Phillips gets sent into the steps. They are back in the ring, and Phillips is in control, cutting everything off of Frankie's. Looks like Frankie’s bleeding from the nose. Delayed vertical suplex by Phillips, the crowd trying to rally Valentine. He punches up and drops Phillips with a leg sweep for a near fall on a slow count from Butterbean. Frankie up top Phillips cuts him off. Superplex? Yup and it was a monster that laid both of them out. They punch their way to their feet, Frankie landing a big blow to knock Phillips down for another close call. Some fans are threatening Butterbean. Spinebuster by Philips for a close pin of his own, he can’t believe Frankie kicked out. Frankie dodges a rushing Phillips and lands a Pele kick from the top rope for a near fall. Phillips turns Frankie inside out with a clothesline from hell for the win at 17:06. Still WGW Heavyweight Champion: Lamar Phillips.
Phillips, who is bleeding as well says that no one back in the locker room can touch him and insults the fans ringside. He invites some of them into the ring to try to stop him. “It’s like Make-a-wish for fans!”
Oct 29th will be the next show and will have a War Games match and a costume contest.
Main Event: Call Your Shot Battle Royal: The winner gets a title shot of their choosing.
Participants are Aaron Dallas, Jimmy the Kid, and AJ Black comes out but he gets attacked by the House of Timbs; they haul Black to the back. Tony Midas, Brother Azrael, and Sean Nelson comes out and he goes right after Josh Storm who’s still sitting ringside and they fight out of the building. The match starts with Dallas, Jimmy, Midas, and Azrael in the ring. Nelson and Storm fight their way back into the building and into the ring. Azrael is out at 3:10. Storm and Nelson eliminate each other at 3:51 and they fight to the back. Midas is knocked down but is still in the match. Jimmy and Dallas face off. No hesitation, they start pounding away at each other. Dallas tries to eliminate Jimmy, Jimmy hangs on, and Midas sneaks in and throws Jimmy out at 5:30. Final two: Tony Midas and Aaron Dallas. Midas being the arrogant heel he is, mouths off to the crowd, and Dallas makes him pay with a leaping slam. Midas kicks out the leg, still mouthing off. Dallas drop kicks Midas and while Midas was still staggering around, sends him over the top, onto the floor. Aaron Dallas wins the battle royal and can call his shot for a championship match at any time. He says Lamar Phillips, next month, be ready. The crowd pops for that to send them home happy.
You can’t say that WGW isn’t interesting. Aaron Dallas has a rocket strapped to his back, not only in WGW but in other promotions as well. I could trash Phillips for that comment, especially since I have put him over in past reports, but seriously, the dude is that good. I’ve always said that my measure of toughness is what do you do if you met someone in a dark alley: Phillips is not someone you want to meet in a dark alley. The threat of the House of Timbs is looming large over several promotions in the state, I fear that someone is going to be seriously hurt on that alter. My initial scouting reports on Zach Buchanan are a bit inconclusive due to the interference. A good basic match with an established vet and good selling of the leg. His biggest hurdle is a familiar one to anyone with older siblings: not being the first. He’s got a big ol’ target on him for not only being Bull's son but for being Ben's brother as well. If there are any receipts out there from Ben’s time in Georgia, people might try to cash them in on Zach. It took several years for Bull and Ben to have a sort of mini-feud happen; it might be even quicker this time around. Still, loads of potential there. Poor AJ: he gets whipped by Phillips and then dragged off to be a sacrifice for Wolfgang Timbs.
