Turn The Page was designed as PCW's biggest, and bestest show of the year and it was all that -- nine matches, each with an aftermath of significance, featuring a cast of thousands -- a veritable Bachannalia of indy pro wrestling.
Najasism regained the PCW Championship from Bryce Cannon and turned to the dark side to do so. He cheated big time to win and appeared to be forming a faction of his own.
To the surprise of nobody, Skrilla The Great and Joe Black had the best wrestling matchof the night. Skrilla retained his Dealer's Choice Championship.
PCW now has dual number one contenders for the Dealer's Choice title. Nathaniel Vanderbilt and Rose Gold
Cannon, whose title reign last 77 days, transitioned to a feud with Dominic Stuckey, the man who appeared destined to become the PCW Champion and was denied.
It was a tough night for Eastside Ronin. Duncan Mitchell Avecilla failed to capture the PCW Championship. The Tag Team Season champions lost in tag action. Hakeem Young won his match but got his ass whipped by Williams Huckaby.
Cuatro Cabezas shed blood to keep his mask and Eddie Honcho will be wearing one.
Najasism wasn't the only one to change his stripes. Hunter James is now a good guy??
Attendance at 5174 Washington St was close to 100. PCW did not discount tickets to five bucks for this show.
The show will be uploaded to IWTV. Date and time TBA.
(1) DJ Smoke defeated Ryan Rembrandt (with Lamar Diggs) in 7:11. Rembrandt made the ref hold up a mirror so he cold see his reflection as he posed. Nice. Smoke got rolling. But Diggs provided a roadblock allowing Rembrandt to take over. Rembrandt used a cobra twist. When Smoke his a frog splash. ButchHer ran to ringside and pulled Diggs of the apron to make sure he didn't interfere. The uber arrogant Rembrandt tried for a third consecutive suplex and Smoke got him with an inside cradle.
A big win for underdog babyface Smoke, overcoming a big obstacle in Diggs. Rembrandt doesn't need to win.
ButcHer started beating the hell out of Diggs until he got slung full force into the announcer's booth, knocking down the speakers, and we segued directly into the next match.
(2) ButchHer (with The Carpenter) defeated Lamar Diggs in a no DQ match (around 9 minutes). Carpenter with his baseball bat was menacing presence but never got involving, act more like a bodyguard. The action eventually moved inside the ring, though referee Nathaniel Spivey never did call for the bell. They didn't stay there long. Back outside a trash can and chair were brought into play. Back inside, both men were winging stiff shots. A drink can came flying into my lap. Diggs gave ButchHer a low blow and a massive powerbomb. ButchHer kicked out and the crowd chanted his name. Diggs scaled the ropes. ButchHer met Diggs at the top with a massive heavo ho and pinned him.
Crude, brutal stuff. They beat the living hell out each other.
(3) ERC (with Geter) defeated Hunter James (with Alexander Lev) in 12:37. Referee Darryl Hall got a "Grandpa" chant. ERC was all over James. He crotched ERC on the ropes and unceremoniously dropkicked him to the floor. James wanted to choke ERC with his wrist tape but resisted the urge. ERC hit a nice double knee gut buster on the comeback. The finish was comedy of errors by Lev. Firstly, Lev punched ERC with a towel but forgot the put the gimmick inside. Howe dumb can he be? ERC laid James out with an elevated stomp. Lev then got on the apron with brass knucks and tried to hit ERC with the loaded fist but clocked James instead.
Lev turned on James after the match. He clipped James' knee (the one James appeared to tweak in the closing minutes). As Lev reared back to slug James with the knucks, ERC KOed Lev with one punch. James shook ERC's hand.
Good match. I liked Lev a whole lot better in this thing with James than the angle with Only at Southern Fried. It will be interesting to see how the PCW crowd reacts to James' turn.
(4) Nathaniel Vanderbilt and Rose Gold defeated Nate Mansions and Marcus Menos and Brother Azriel and De La Vega (with Quasi Mandisco) to become co-number one contenders for the Dealer's Choice Championship in 10:52. Mandisco announced PCW original, "Grown Ass Man" DLV as the mystery 6th competitor. Dual storylines --- 1) Gold and Vanderbilt working together and doing the disgusting things they do. Every time Gold was in jeopardy of being harmed, Vanderbilt would save her with superkick. Mansion trying to convince former partner Menos "we can do this!" The big spot was a tower of doom superplex on Menos followed by a DLV frog splash for a near fall. Mansions inevitably turned on Menos with a low blow but Menos was wearing a metal cup. Gold and Vanderbilt delivered twin low blows to Menos and Mansions, hit them with their finishers and scored simultaneous pins.
I really liked how they intertwined the two good stories in the scramble format and brought them together for the finish. Menos is really over with the this crowd and it's always a pleasure to see DLV back in Georgia.
(5) Skrilla The Great defeated Joe Black to retain the Dealer's Choice Championship in 13:24. Skrilla came out firing on all cylinders and had Black reeling. The action spilled to the floor where the proceeded to light each other up with chops. Black hit the Rave STO on the apron to take control. More wicked chops. Black with a falcon arrow for a near fall. Skrilla rolled out of the ring to gather regroup. Joe gave Skrilla a vertical suplex and tossed him out of the ring. "You wanted this!" said Joe. Skrilla almost didn't beat the 10 count. Skrilla tried for the Skrillride. Joe countered with a backbreaker. But Skrilla was absorbing Black's blows. Joe looked worried. Joe started missing. Skrilla mounted a comeback. Black hit a devastating modified Falcon arrow off the ropes. Three times, Skrilla kicked out. Black took Skrilla's head off with lariat and was in disbelief when Skrilla kicked out. Skrilla was barely able to stand. Black tried to spear Skrilla in the corner and Skrilla did a sunset flip off the ropes to pin him.
The way this match built and all the little tings set it apart from the rest of the shows. Quality over quantity, though no shortage of latter. Joe's facial expressions were awesome.
Black left Skrilla high and dry -- didn't give honor him with the beads and refused to shake his hand.
Skrilla won but evidently didn't earn Joe's respect. Run it back.
(6) Left Hand Path (Austin Towers & Alister Crowe) defeated East Side Ronin (Trey Shaw & Cedric Terrell) and CREEPS (Irving West & Andey Ripley) with Dinosaur) in 12:20. Towers has added significant muscle mass in the upper body and looks the best he ever has. Shaw has trimmed down and is in the best shape of his career. Ripley used a dragon sleeper to fight off repeated choke slam attempt by Towers. Crowe spewed the green mist on West. The incredibly resilient West hit an improbable mandible choke slam. The individual in the dinosaur costume pulled West out of the ring and beat up Creeps. The costume cane off and it was Grappler #1!! Towers choke slammed Terrell for the win.
I thought no way this match could follow Joe and Skrilla but it succeeded because of the contrast and offbeat storytelling. Terrell's chicken shit act was tremendous. Grappler in the costume was the surprise of the night, well, number two behind Naja's turn. It's great to see talented performers like Towers and Shaw looking the part physically. Crowe is as technically as sound as they come but is underestimated due to his size.
Terrell was furious at Shaw for not having his back and stormed out the back door of the building.
(7) Hakeem Young defeated William Huckaby in 12:20. An ungodly stiff brawl that the ring could not contain. Chairs were flying, some shit hanging on the wall got dismantled in the process. Huckaby intimidated referee Waites, who could have counted them out 10 times over. Waites kept restarting his count. Back inside, they did a wicked clothesline collision that knocked them both of the ring. They did it again. And a third time. Huck planted Young with a spinebuster slam.
Shaw, who had been lurking in the shadows, got in the mic and taunted Huck. Young tried to capitalize with a corner splash and took out referee Weeks instead. Huck KOed Young with the Right Hand of God. Shaw jumped in, speared Huck and draped Young over him for the 1-2-3.
This match as VIOLENT, neck and neck with ButchHer vs. Diggs, but this one took the cake. Huck was ruthless. Young hung right with him. Should have been a no count out or at least the ref should have stopped counting rather than calling attention to his impotence.
Shaw ordered Young to beat Huck's ass some more and continued the taunting. Geter came to the ring with a steel chair. Eastside Ronin bailed. Geter said Ronin had created a monster as he raised Huck's hand.
The fallout out from this promises to be barbaric.
(8) Mask vs. Mask: Cuatro Cabezas defeated Eddie Honcho by submission in 8:31. Stip was Cabezas would unmask if he lost, Honcho would have to wear a mask for one year if he lost. Cabezas got the back of his head split open by a wicked running hip attack from Honcho. The back of his mask turned crimson. Cabezas submitted Honcho with the Figure Quatro. Cabezas put a mask on Honcho.
OK for what it was. Crowd sounded fatigued. Who could blame them after 2 and 1/2 hours of non-stop action without an intermission?
Postmatch, Nina Monet came to the ring with Sleepy Wrassla. Sleepy wasn't sleepy at all. He put Cabezas to sleep with a full nelson.
(9) Najasism defeated PCW Champion Bryce Cannon and Duncan Mitchell Avecilla and Dominic Stuckey to regain the PCW Championship in 18:27. It was mind boggling how much happened in this match. I'll keep the details to a dull roar. DMA gave Naja a catatonic. Cannon clocked DMA with a drink can and DMA ended up on the receiving end of a tower of doom powerbomb. Naja set a ladder up on the ramp and did an elbow drop from 7ft up on the ladder. He appeared to badly injure his arm and was taken out of the ring by booker Brian Blaze and PCW officials. Cannon invoked the name of Stuckey's trainer, Iceberg. Them's fighting words. Stuckey took it to Cannon and had him pinned with the butterfuly cutter but Cornelius Pepperbottom hit the ring to save Cannon. Pepp continued to interfere liberally as it was no DQ. DMA had his chance to win spoiled by Naja returning to the match with a frog splash.
Fast forward....With Stuckey and Naja both down after a collision of clotheslines, one of the security guys posted Cannon. WTF? As the security guy distracted referee Hall, his twin brother security guy handed a taser to Naja. Naja tased Stuckey and pinned him with Lights Out.
A whirlwind of intense action and story with a shocking conclusion. DMA and Stuckey had legit shots to win. If Naja was going to be champion again, a heel turn was the way to keep things fresh.
Naja shot the fans a double bird and went out the back door with security twins, who are known as the H Town Hitters. They are the same mysterious shinobi dudes who sat ringside at all the BattleSlam shows.
Stuckey was toast. Cannon and DMA were enraged. Cannon blasted Stuckey with a chairshot, then placed his head on the chair and and smashed his head with his fraternity paddle. Cannon said he didn't need a title to end Stuckey's career. The show closed with PCW officials in the ring tending to Stuckey.
Since Stuckey as champion was not to be, a feud with the former champion is a good direction to go.
