The Superstars of 12 Gauge were back in Rome at the Coosa Valley Fairgrounds for a loaded card that did not disappoint. A few new names to the home crowd (that are more familiar across the state) plus a solid core brought out the best of wrestler and fan alike. Ring announcer JDR made his debut on this night and more than held his own.
The night starts with 12 Gauge’s head honcho Rocky Shaw in the ring to help set up the crowd for the new faces they will see to bookend the show. A local member from the crowd named Gabby sang a beautiful National Anthem to get us started.
Match 1—Chad Skywalker V. Jay “Alpha” Miller: Two of the four new wrestlers on the card to kick off the show. This may have been the first time some of Rome had seen these two square off, however not the first time these two have tangled! Fans chanted “USA” early on much to the chagrin of Skywalker who actually got boos for not sporting patriotic ring attire. Skywalker with the advantage early, being one step ahead of any of Miller’s attacks. Chad pulled Jay to the outside for some quick strikes before action spilled back to the ring. Now it was time for the “Georgia Wrestling Rookie Of The Year” in Miller to take over and keep the normally high-flying Skywalker grounded on the mat. Back and forth they went til the halfway spot in the match where Jay started to choke a grounded Chad causing the fans to realize Jay’s actual intentions, now raining down jeers to Jay. Counter attack after counter attack leads to a near fall by Chad broken up by the Hakeem Young! The “Body Snatcher” and Miller double team Skywalker until the returning “Son of Rome” Zach Mosley charges to the ring to even the odds. The heels retreat to the aisleway as Zach grabs the microphone to let them know he is BACK in Rome and that sort of activity will not fly!
Winner—Chad Skywalker via DQ
Match 2—Rockstar BK Bennett V. Space Cowboy V. Hayden Seal V. Pale Rider Corey James: Early on the heels of Bennett and Cowboy teamed up to try to eliminate Seal and James. Their plan was effective until they realized they would need to go through one another to get the win. Tons of crisp move for move one-upmanship by all four participants including Attitude Adjusters, Codebreakers and many variations of bombs and slams. Action spilled all over ringside as each competitor took turns being the aggressor. The crowd were chanting and cheering for practically each wrestler during the match. In the end, the victory goes to the fan favorite Pale Rider Corey James!
Winner—“Pale Rider” Corey James via pinfall
Match 3—Kyle Mathews & Tyler Smith V. Chris Lightning & Chris Gainz: The Chris’s with the early jump in this one as their took advantage of the over aggressive Smith. Nice double team moves such as double punches in the corners had Mathews and Smith reeling. However Mathews is not known as one of the best for nothing as he and Smith take over the match with some textbook arm drags and armbars. As they took turns wrenching the arms of Gainz until he swapped it up on them, having Kyle wrench the arm of Smith while Gainz dropped out to the floor to waive at Mathews. Lightning gets the tag and the crowd gets louder as he executes an airplane spin slam. A gut buster that would make Jamie Noble proud had Smith and Mathews staggering. Lightning performs a suplex of Mathews from the apron back into the ring, but Smith grabbed his foot allowing Kyle to cover for the 1-2-3. Post match Rocky Shaw comes down to hear the plea of the fans and Chris’s to have a 3rd match with Mathews and Smith at the next show, except this time a 2 out of 3 falls Street Fight! Rocky says “you got it!”
Winners—Kyle Mathews & Tyler Smith via pinfall
Match 4—Modern Mid Century Gentleman Gerry Swirlz V. The Warden: The Gentleman tried some cerebral maneuvering to try to offset the size difference. It was effective for a bit, then the Warden got his paws on him! Big time slams from high elevation along with some chops that would have broken most mortal men, yet the Gentleman stayed in it. Gerry found his footing to ground the big man, taking back the momentum of the match. Swirlz had the giant winded for a bit and looked to nab a victory with some very close 2 counts. In the end it was not enough though as the Warden took to the Swagger Bomb in the corner for the win.
Winner—The Warden via pinfall
Match 5—Walker XIII V. Lumberjack Zack Riley: Ever hear about King Kong versus Godzilla? This contest was that and more! Two of the biggest superstars on the roster just throwing haymakers and clotheslines plus whatever other way they could to out muscle and over power their opponents. For every technical strike Walker would employ, the Lumberjack had an equally devastating cannonball like attack! Slams, sentons, running knees and more were used by each to ultimately decimate the other. Just as Riley seemed to have Walker down for the count after a Yoko bomb in the corner, “Mr 13” sat up almost from the dead and the fight was back on! As Walker had Riley on the ropes, he performed a Black Hole Slam for the win!
Winner—Walker XIII via pinfall
Match 6: Main Event—“The Body Snatcher” Hakeem Young V. Zach Mosley: Two more of the top talents in the state square off and it lived up to the hype. Mosley with the jump on Young to start including chasing him around ringside. Just when Hakeem thought he could hide around ringside, he caught the ire of a fan who chased him around ringside until he slid back into the ring for a waiting Mosley. Zach, with the help of some fans feet and hands, kept the “Body Snatcher” on his heels on the outside of the ring. Once back in the squared-circle though Hakeem executed a picture perfect DDT counter on Zach that garnered some oohs and aahs from the fans, and a near fall 2-count. Young used a Swagger bomb of his own only to have Mosley battle back with a spin-kick topped off with a Spin-a-rooni celebration to the delight of the rabid crowd! Young with the Saito suplex on Zach for the 1-2-….then he pulled him up to stop the potential 3 count to inflict more punishment and further prove his point. It proved to be his undoing as Mosley performed a picturesque Destino for the 1-2-3! After the bell, Jay “Alpha” Miller came from out of nowhere to double team Zach until Chad Skywalker appeared to even the odds. After a 2 on 2 brawl finally subsided, it was Rocky Shaw with the mic to say at the next show these four would be in a tag match to settle their differences!
