From Larry Goodman:
An element of perverse wrestling entertainment has always been a part of ProSouth Wrestling. It has been more prominent at some times than others and has produced some of the show's most memorable moments.
ProSouth leaned into the perversity on this week's episode. The make up of the 24 person field for the Trinity Challenge Cup tournament and the outcome of the shoot random draw that determined the teams made that the creative braintrust's best option.
I do not know if the crowd was turned down in the audio mix or they were actually that dead but the show came across as lifeless.
Two teams advanced in ProSouth's annual trios tournament this week. One of those teams has a security guard as part of their trio. The other team to advance had to make a substitution because the orignally announced member is still in jail.
As a result of chaotic main event, ProSouth's lead heel faction, The Process is out of the tournament and one of their members, may of may not be defecting to the Light Side of the Force.
The focal point of the show at this juncture is the Haven family. For the first time ever, Harley Haven will have a meeting with Amy Haven on live television next week.
By the time Ace Haven made his appearance for the fantasy that closed the show, it was a bridge too far for this writer.
The intrepid and nearly award winning Wicked Nemesis and Mathias Darkthorne were on commentary. Darkthorne did double duty as ring announcer and did not have to draw names out of a tumbler. Joseph Void was the referee. Emma was the ringside videographer.
KJ Valentine said last week, he beat former All-Out Champion Chris Crunk but it did not matter because he did not beat the clock. Valentine claimed DRP had been running from him since beating him the Young Lions Cup final. Valentine said he would beat DRP and beat Ooten's time from last week which would put him position to be the new number one contender for the ProSouth Championship.
Good promo. Clear and to the point.
(1) KJ Valentine defeated All-Out Champion DRP in a non-title match (6:27). The time clock was on the screen but it was not an official Race Against Time match. Valentine targeted DRP's back. With about a minute left on the clock, Valentine kicked out of the Panhandle Slam. DRP went for the Waverider but too much damage had been done to his back. DRP ducked Valentine's Blackout finisher and tried for the Waverider again. DRP saw the time clock was at zero and thought the match was over. Valentine hit the Blackout and pinned DRP.
Good match. A nice piece of business for several reasons: 1) It was a DRP match. 2) Valentine leveled up his wrestling and wrestled with a sense of urgency. 3) Because of #2, the cutesy story worked and Valentine is a credible alternative number one contender.
Throw this in the mix: the time clock was off. They actual time was 6:27 which beat Ooten's time by three seconds.
Scott Adams addressed the ProSouth faithful from ringside. Adams was being coy. Adams said the Process had not come out and beaten his brains in because he had tricks. Adams handed a key to a kid in the front row and said he would be back for the key when it was time to unlock them. Why was he with Ace? Why was he not fired? Loopholes. He used to be Commissioner Amy Haven's assistant. She and Joe Black were not there.
Adams made the babyface turn nobody asked for. Talk about casting against type. He got crickets from the ProSouth crowd. I guess the idea was to shroud his return in mystery.
Pryor admitted he got off on the wrong foot with the fans last week and was willing to accept their apology. He came back from Hollywood for them after all. Pryor promised the to deliver the photo opportunity worth millions he reneged on last week. Wicked clamed he saw Pryor trying to sell autographs to the boys backstage for five bucks.
(2) "American Firecracker" Nick Cicero defeated Julius Pryor via count out in 5:13. Cicero penalized Pryor for excessive posing. Cicero went for broke. His rolling senton off the apron found its mark. Back inside, Pryor elevated Cicero by the leg and did a swinging stretch muffler. Think about the strength and technique that would take. Cicero crashed and burned on a springboard missile dropkick as as Pryor slid out to take a phone call from his agent and was counted out.
Pryor's physique and athletic abilities are so unique, his presence on ProSouth is a breath of fresh air no matter what he's doing. Two weeks in, the Hollywood gimmick does not seem to working but it's difficult to evaluate with the piss poor crowd ProSouth is drawing of late.
(3) Vougan defeated Julian Balderas (with Christian Pierce & "The Loyalist" Wyndell) in 6:44. Balderas was having some difficulties with Vougan, so Wyndell grabbed Vougan's leg from the outside. Pierce was already unhappy with Wyndelll's cheating and warned him again. Void kicked Wyndell out. In the ensuing wildness Vougan rolled Balderas up.
Balderas speared Vougan after the match to get his heat back and laid him out for good with Psycho Driver.
Pierce played peacemaker between his teammates. After Trios Cup, Balderas was welcome to kill Wyndelll. But first they were going to work as a unit to win Trios. Pierce said he and the British wanker were going to team up in the Members Only match. Against who, Pierce had clue.
The Tex Mex Terminator should not be selling shit for Vougan much less being pinned by him. I'll give them the benefit of the doubt on the story because Christian Pierce is involved and Wyndell entertains me. The perverse entertainment potential of the members only boggled my mind.
(4) Trinity Challenge Cup Tournament Opening Round: Sean Nelson & Brother Azriel & Security Guy Jamie defeated Christian Garrett & Von LaFlare & Neji Ichiban with Stella Randy) in 8:06. Midway through, Jamie was said to be legal but never got in the ring. Ichiban pescado. All six outside. Nelson leveled Ichiban with a shadow lariat for a double down. Jamie tagged in against LaFlare. Perverse wrestling entertainment reigned supreme. Az hit the Woodgrain on LaFlare and dragged Jamie on top of him for the win.
Perverse wrestling entertainment reigned supreme when Jamie tagged in with LaFlare. On the plus side, the match gave Az a chance to show the playful side of his personality and he took full advantage of the opportunity. Garrett is out of Trios and needs something constructive to do.
New number one contender for the ProSouth Championship Caeden Ooten and Harley Haven speak. Ooten addressed Joe Black's promo from last week. Said he had held the ProSouth Championship three times already. Maybe was not a killer and had gotten complacent, but in two weeks, complacency would be out of the question. With or without Harley, he would become a four time champion. Ooten wanted where Harley disappeared to when it was time for his match last week.
Harley said Amy called her into a meeting. Amy wanted Ooten to lay down for Joe Black. "And you're not doing that dumb shit".
Ooten said Harley was not seeing the entire process. Amy was trying to get in her head. Harley was a Haven and she had to cut throats. This was potentially the biggest position of power he would ever be in. Maybe he disagreed with her for once.
Harley said Caeden had been champion three times and could work his way back to the top spot. The larger issue was she was trying to get the collar off of Cam (Tragick).
Ooten was pissed about Harley wanting to save Cam. They did not need him. Maybe Harley should trust the Process.
Harley said her bitch of a mother should not have a mind control collar. Amy controlled her for 14 years and Cam helped get her out of the situation. Next week, She was going to have meeting with Amy in the ring. Ooten said he had no choice but to interject at the same time and meet with Joe Black.
Harley wants to free Cameron Keast. Amy wants C to lay down for Joe. Harley and Amy, C and Joe, meeting of the mind controllers. Tune in at 8:30 EST next Friday night to watch it unfold in real time.
(5) Donovan Thomas defeated "The Hotstepper" Dante Darko in 4:22. Thomas ducked Darko's kill shot kick to the head and rolled him up with feet on the ropes.
Not a world beater of a match by any means but they nailed the finish. Thomas is extremely unpolished. Five stars for Darko's use Public Enemy's intro music.
(6) Trininty Challege Cup Tournament Opening Round: Justin McKenzie & Oliver Green & Damon Thomas defeated The Process (Brandon Whatley & Joe Wood & Tragick) in 12:06. Steven Calozzi evidently still did not make bail on the tax evasion charge he was arrested on six weeks ago so McKenzie took his place. McKenzie wrestled wearing a t-shirt and again did not wear the facepaint. Thomas was ambivalent about cooperating with McKenzie and Green, who the announce team referred to as Green Olives. I like mine with pimentos. The Process got heat on McKenzie. When McKenzie tried to tag Thomas in, Thomas stooped down to tie his shoe. McKenzie tagged him anyway. Thomas hit a standing moonsault on Whatley. Wood came in the ring and grabbed Thomas. No tag. Void just let it go. McKenzie took more abuse from the Process. Tragick gave McKenzie a Raindrop (shoutout to Tyler Cullprett). Green Olives cleaned house. Thomas shoved Whatley into the path of Wood's Human Torpedo. Thomas and Green subjected Wood to a comically mistimed handspring back elbows in stereo, sending Wood through the ropes. Tragick shoved McKenzie off the top rope and he landed on Whatley for the three count.
After the match, Thomas walked out on his partners as the Process was starting to to beat them down. Tragick walked out on the Process and dropped his kendo stick on the way.
The match left burning questions on the table: Will Thomas cooperate with his partners? Will Calozzi get out of jail for the next match in tournament? Is Tragick throwing in the towel on the Process? Will McKenzie overcome his case of vertigo?
Adams came onstage with the shield and picked up the kendo stick. Ace Haven emerged in blue light wearing the Majora Mask that gives him special powers.
