Golden Contract was one of, if not the best DSW show I've attended.
The Chandelier Room at Monday Night Garage was packed beginning to end. It was the quintessential family atmosphere for pro wrestling -- no four letter words, no exteme violence or gore, beer for the parents, pizza for the kids. More on that chandelier later.
Deon Summerz became the first golden contract holder in DSW history. Summerz won a spectacular seven person ladder match to claim the scroll that entitles the bearer to a title match of his choosing at any time.
The show opened with a 10 bell salute to Rosemary Davis Hamilton who recently passed. Rosemary was Nick Patrick's mother and the widow of Assassin Jody Hamilton.
Nathan Hamilton and Drew Dickinson were introduced as the announce team and fearless leaders of the Nation of Intoxication. I do like the chemistry of the in-ring banter between Hamilton and Drewski.
They in turn intoduced Matt Sells as the Director of Influence and authority figure fo the evening. He was interrupted by August Artois, who said he was set to defend the FIP Championship he has held for almost 1000 days at New Realm yesterday but the show got canceled due to rain (that never happened). Enter Dre the GOAT. Long and confusing story short - if Artois won, he earned a spot in the ladder match for the golden contract but had to put the FIP Championship on the line.
(1) Golden Contract Qualifier: August Artois defeated Dre the GOAT in 19 seconds to retain the FIP Championship and earn a spot in the ladder match for the golden contract. Dre had previously qualified for the ladder match. Artois gave the ref his glass of water to get rid of and blasted Dre with the belt 1...2...3.
30 minutes in, this show was off to painfully slow start in so far as action. Sells compared it to 2004 RAW. But that was about to change.This momentum of this show was like freight train the rest of the way.
(2) Austin Towers defeated Eddie Hindrixx via referee stoppage at 12:06. The power of popular Hindrixx vs. the giant with the ugly disposition. A high impact, see saw battle ensued. Hindrixx got Towers up for an Olympic Slam. Towers was in disbelief when Hindrixx kicked out of his choke slam. Both men pulled the straps down. Hindrixx busted out a double springboard moonsault. Towers rolled a shoulder at 2.9. Hindrixx waded in and Towers caught him with gogoplata. Hindrixx tried to power out but limphis body went limp and Darryl Hall called for the bell.
I really liked the way this match was put together. Nice build to a finish. Towers is great seller. Hindrixx is in the midst of a growth spurt as a pro wrestler.
Towers humbly gave respect to Hindrixx and called Flex and Star of the 4TL of Wrestling podcast to the ring apologize for physically abusing them at a previous event. Towers admitted he wrong before decking one due and chokeslamming the other one. The podcasters got carried out.
(3) Alex Kane defeated the debuting OXP in 10:45. A babyface match: Kane's grappling vs. OXP's acrobatics. Blazing speed and aglity from OXP. Kane with a capture dragon screw and some suplex island action. OXP's comeback led to 360 tornado kick on the button. Kane kicked out just in time on OXP's satellite DDT. Kane hit the apron splash. Hamilton said if a man can't breath, he can't fight. OXP fired up but his frogsplash crashed and burned.
Kane showed respect for OXP after the match.
A sublime blend of constrasting styles. OXP is a rare talent. He was instantly over. I don't get why Kane is not THE top guy for some Georgia promotion. Run this one back anytime, anywhere.
Sells said Cb Suave couldn't make it for the match with Jacob Johnson and DSW likes to give up and comers opportunities...
(4) Golden Contract Qualifier: Jacob Johnson defeated the debuting Atrix in 1:58. Drewski gave Johnson a wide berth. The camp kids threw wadded up paper balls at him. Atrix was made to suffer. Johnson followed up a choke bomb with a pair of world's strongest slams, pinned Atrix with one foot and tossed him out of the ring like yesterday's garbage.
This is the best version of Jacob Johnson. He cannot be bothered to give two shits about any of these other MFers.
(5) Wonderboyz (Aaron & Ethan Dallas) defeated SIN (Jay Alpha Miller & Hakeem Young) two out of three falls to become the new DSW Tag Team Champions in 11:07.
Hakeem got DQed for blasting AD with his belt to cost SIN the first fall, then instantaneously pinned A-Ron to take the second fall. Elapsed time less than a minute.
SIN isolated AD in the third fall. Hamilton called Wonderboyz the toughest men in tassles. SIN collided. Ethan went to town with the hot tag until Miller planted him with a rockbottom, SIN then kllled AD with a Hart Attack. Ethan moonsaulted onto SIN and everyone was down. Dives by Wonderboyz and everyone down again.
CT Entertainment hit the ring and came face-to-face with his former stablemate Hakeem. CT laid Hakeem out with a superick and grabbed Miller's American flag. Teflon freaked and Wonderboyz hit their finisher to capture the title.
Not your classic two out of three falls match Nothing wrong with that when the match is done as well it was here. Helps Wonderboyz immensely that Ethan's offense looks so much much better than it used to.
DSW Kids Camp participants with coach Big Strong Mims. Mims said he had been with Deep South and living in the great city of Atlanta for one year. DSW and the wrestling business had given him so much, he found a way to give back with the kids camp. The kids, about a dozen of them, came through the curtain and into the ring, all in gimmick. Mims introduced each kid by their wrestling name. Each of them did their pose and got a pop.
It was something special to look around and see every adult in the room smiling. Mims is a class act, a tremendous role model for these kids. He has the look and aura of big league star.
Out came SIN to spoil the moment. Teflon exercised his first amendement right. He was not in the mood for this. Said it was unamerican. The kids got out of the ring except for the three oldest boys. SIN talked smack to them. As soon as Mims ushed the boys out, SIN put the boots to him. CT Entertainment joined Mims to clean house on SIN. CT was poised to come off the top rope but put it on pause so Buck Jr, Top Dog and Mr. Lighting could do their moves on Hakeem. CT frogsplashed Hakeem and all the kids got in the ring to celebrate over Hakeem's carcass. SIN retreated with their tails between their legs. The kids stood tall.
SIN made great stooges. Hakeem bumping for the kids was hilarious. Nick Patrick was among the onlookers with a smile on his face.
(6) Najasism defeated FIP Heritage Champion Sage Scott to retain the DSW Championship in 14:04. This was the rubber match of their series. Scott beat Naja in Florida. Naja evened it up in Georgia.
Naja was justifably in whatever it takes mode to cope with Scott's formidable power. Naja wobbled Scott with a superkick. Took him down with a blockbuster and got a two count with a double stomp. A bonanza of near falls ensued. Naja countered Scott's gorilla press slam and had the Sharpest Shooter locked in. Scott powered out and speared Naja but his back cover was not enough. Scott put Naa down with a short arm clothesline, a second short arm clothesline turned Naja inside out. Scott was confident of victory. From left field, Naja planted Scott with a Scorpion death drop and pinned him with corkscrew moonsault.
Load of impressive moves in this match. Scott has explosive power. It was tough sell to get the DSW fans to believe Naja was losing to Scott in Atlanta. The suddeness of the finish worked.
(7) Deon Summerz defeated August Artois and DJ Smoke and Chad Sky Walker and Jacob Johnson and Dre the GOAT and Duncan Avecilla (with Wallaby) in the Golden Contract Ladder Match (26:24). Two six foot ladders, an eight foot ladder, a 12 foot ladder and a 14 foot ladder were used.
Highlights:
-- Johnson threw Longino out of the ring before he could do the intros and started pushing the other competitors around. They beat Jacob's ass.
-- Skywalker ran up a ladder for a flip dive to the outside.
-- Dre did a beauty of a moonsault from 10 feet up a ladder on the floor (pictured above).
-- They took turns trying to fighting their way to the top of an eight foot ladder. Crazy stupid, because there was no way in the world to reach the scroll on that ladder.
-- Sky Walker and Artois climbed opposite sides of a 12 foot ladder and got tipped over by Johnson
-- Sky Walker's invisible gun vs. Summerz water gun ended led Artois getting squired in the face
-- Johnson press slammed Smoke over the top onto a mass of humanity
-- Sky Walker did a lionsault onto Dre laid out on a ladder bridge
-- Johnson gave Dre an avalanche World's Strongest Slam onto a ladder
-- Smoke put Summerz through a ringside table with a piledriver off the apron
-- Dre got sweet revenge on with a springboard swanton on Artois laying on a ladder bridge
-- Smoke made a ladder sandwich out of Johnson with a slingshot senton.
-- Avecilla climbed the ladder with Wallaby standing guard. Wallaby whacked Avecilla with a chair by mistake and Sky Walker gave Wallaby sliced bread off the ladder.
-- Artois brought Avecilla off the ladder with a powerbomb putting Wallaby through a table
-- Artois knocked everyone down with the Terry Funk ladder spot and scaled the 12 foot ladder, mic in hand, but Skywalker took him down with a leap from the top rope.
Skywalker was attempting to claw his way up the ladder when Summerz whacked him with a cookie sheet.
The 12 foot ladder was a mangled mess. Summerz set the 14 foot ladder up under the scroll. He bumped the chandelier with the ladder and it started to sway. Summerz and Avecilla simultaneously climbed the ladder. Summerz booted Avecilla off the ladder and got to the scroll. The crowd popped huge for Summerz.
This match was lunacy. Action everywhere with bodies constantly littering the ring and floor. The height of the ladders required to reach the scroll added another layer of danger and drama. Bossman Marty Buccafusco almost had a heart attack in the production area when the chandelier started swinging around.
