Pre-Show Match 1: Frederick Lewis Davis Vs. Xander Seabolt (Boxing Match)—Davis came out to say that boxing was superior to wrestling and to promote an upcoming fight night in Rome. Xander came out to stand up for wrestling and a two round boxing match ensued with two minute rounds. While both landed some clean jabs and uppercuts to each other, Davis found a small window to catch Seabolt off balance. Xander recovered and was cleared by the official so they continued on. Later in the round, Davis caught Seabolt in transition and Xander hit the mat hard, rolling to the outside where he laid as the official gave the ten count then awarded the fight decision to Davis. Takeaway: Glad to see Xander stick up for wrestling and hang in there with a trained boxer. If the point was to promote the fight night, mission accomplished. A trained boxer KO’ing a professional wrestler does not prove much in my opinion. Plus, after the “knockout punch” as the ref was counting to ten, Davis had already took off his gloves, picked up his daughter into his arms and was flexing. Best wishes to him on his future boxing matches.
Winner: Frederick Lewis Davis vis KO.
Pre-Show Match 2: Joey Callahan Tribute Battle Royal—Participants included:
“The Loyalist” Ryan Wyndell, David Idol, “Macho” Hndls, Roxxi Redd, Jay Brown, Joey Idol and more. Hometown hero Roxxi had the crowd with her as she had most of the big spots in the match. Solid work from all involved as the many of the participants are early in their careers. In the end it was Roxxi’s to win and that she did, eliminating a majority of her competitors along the way.
Takeaway: Joey came out at one point to assist Roxxi with a tough foe before eliminating himself and going to the back. Roxxi got a chance to showcase a few things and introduce herself to some unfamiliar with her so maybe this is Honor Code trying to bring women’s wrestling back to West Georgia. It’s a good start.
Winner: Roxxi Redd
Main Card—Match 1: (Ladder Match for the Infamous Championship) Chris Gainz Vs. RC Daniels Vs. AJ Black Vs. Kyle Gunner—Gainz and Daniels team up on Black before dumping him to the outside. As AJ recovers they team again with a ladder to run him down. Gainz slides a ladder in the ring that catches the ankle of Daniels as well. All three try to climb the ladder. As they all pull one another back down, out runs Kyle Gunner with his “custom” ladder (step-ladder). He unfolds it and climbs all three steps to the top only to realize he is just a little too far down to reach it. He climbs down then looks around as all three other participants are now staring him down. They pummel him and send him flying. He is helped to the back as they continue the match. RC gets sent through the ropes as Gainz and Black trade strikes. Daniels with the Back Cracker on Gainz followed by a running cutter on Black. He scampers up the ladder, however Gainz pulls him off of it before he reaches the top. Gainz takes a turn running up the ladder but Black hauls him down. Black tries to climb and it’s Daniels turn to pull him down. He tries again with the same result. Black gets hip-tossed onto a ladder propped in a corner by Gainz who slams a ladder hard onto Daniels on the ground. Daniels climbs again yet Black smashes him down with another ladder. Black and Daniels climb simultaneously, Gainz tugs them down to the mat. Daniels smashes both Gainz and Black with a ladder then begins his ascent once more. Gainz gets to him before he can unhook the title and down he comes to the canvas. Gainz sets up a table on the outside yet it’s him who gets back body dropped over the ropes onto it! Black attempts another climb but somehow Gainz recovers enough to stop him. Gainz runs up the ladder however Black yanks him back down as they trade a couple forearms. Black mounts a ladder in the corner, with Daniels under him. Gainz joins the top rope party to superplex Black through a ladder as Daniels powerbombs him to the mat! Daniels is the first to climb with Black fighting him back down then Black grounds Daniels with an STO. Black and Gainz execute tandem Coast to Coasts on Daniels. Gainz throws Black into a ladder, but Black hits a running cutter on Gainz through a table! Daniels surveys the damage, grins, then starts his climb. Just as he is getting close to the top, Gunner comes flying out from the back to knock him off the ladder! He resets the ladder, climbs up and unhooks the title! Gunner wins!
Takeaway: No lack of action in this opener! So many great spots that were not random as they helped the story of the match unfold on a higher level. Gainz took a couple crazy falls through tables while Black and Daniels took a few through ladders that were wicked in every sense. The addition of Gunner throughout just put the icing and candles on the cake. After the match, Boyd gets on the mic to denounce Gunner as the champion since he was not officially in the match, yet Gunner heard no part of it as he was already halfway out the back door with his new Infamous Championship. The “Belt Stealer” strikes again. To me he has as legit a claim as any would to be the champion.
Winner: (and NEW Infamous Champion) Kyle Gunner
Match 2: (Fans With Straps Match) Ty Rose Vs. Big Andy—Brawl to begin then they trade shoulder blocks before Andy gets dumped to the outside. Neither of the five fans with straps even approach him so he gets back in the ring. Rose with a handful of clotheslines in the corner then he sends Andy back to the outside. This time a few whips to his back occur when fire him up a little more as he chases them away. Rose joins him on the outside and gets sent into the ring post. Back inside the ring they both connect on a running clothesline. Andy has the momentum as they get to their feet which leads to a running forearm smash to Ty. He follows up with a bigger crushing blow then finishes his foe with his patented running splash for the victory!
Takeaway: Solid match from the superstars, yet the fans with whips were not good. Four of the five looked more like we would need a mop for them instead of someone wanted to add to the match. The fifth was ready to go just never saw action his direction much. Appears as though Andy is moving past Rose now and on to other things. Could the Infamous or Heavyweight Championship be in his sights?
Winner: “The 605” Big Andy via pinfall.
Match 3: The Wonderboys (Aaron & Ethan Dallas) Vs. Air B & B (c—Rico Bravo & BK Bennet: HCW Tag Team Championships)—This starts with a pose off as Ethan Dallas and Rico Bravo takes turns posing on the second turnbuckle. They lock up, we get a clean break then Rico grabs a wrist lock. They both make tags to their partners. Aaron grabs a headlock then a takeover, BK uses his legs to trap the cranium of Aaron who kips up to break the grasp. They stare down each other then both pose for the crowd. The elder Dallas brother grabs a hammerlock, BK counters so Aaron locks around his waist. Bennet trips him to break the hold then gets a quick one count from the official. A deeper headlock from A-Aron this time, but BK gets a tag to his partner. Bennet with the slam followed by the high senton splash from Bravo then tandem splashes from the Champs. Bennet holds Aaron so Bravo can go over the top with a flying attack on him. Ethan finally finds a tag from his brother as the younger Dallas brother leaps on his opposition. The Dallas brothers follow this up with a double side- Russian leg sweep. Rico gets the better of Ethan shortly thereafter only to be planted into the mat by Aaron by way of a thunderous spinning spinebuster! BK gets the tag before the Dallas’s can capitalize further. He comes in flying with a cross body from the top onto both his foes! Then it’s a couple flying forearms before all four competitors take each other out. Ethan hits a Tope’ Suicida as BK responds with a Plancha to the outside. The Wonderboys set up their version of the Hart Attack, finishing the double team maneuver with a leaping leg lariat. As they go for the pin Bravo hurls himself off the top rope to break up the count! Aaron gets dumped to the outside. Air B & B lay out Ethan then climb opposing turnbuckles for the double splash! They cover him for the 1- 2-3!
Takeaway: Really good tag team wrestling from both teams. Air B & B get better and better with their tandem offense each time out. The Wonderboys continue to be one of the better teams around as well. They can really get a crowd motivated and behind their efforts quickly. For this contest though, Bravo and Bennet got more of the cheers from the fans. Curious to see who the next challengers could be for ABB and where The Wonderboys go after the loss.
Winners: (And STILL HCW Tag Team Champions) Air B & B (BK Bennet & Rico Bravo) via pinfall.
Match 4: (Dog Collar) Sean Nelson Vs. Zack Malone—Sean out first then Commissioner Jason Boyd announces that Malone is not there, but has a different opponent for Sean.
UPDATE: (Dog Collar) Sean Nelson Vs. Stryk Nyn (w/ Vixxius)—Sean catches Stryk Nyn unaware with a big smash then a German suplex at the bell. Heavy shoulder blocks by Nelson to Stryk Nyn in the corner then finger ligament manipulation making everyone cringe a little. They roll to the outside to continue the fight. Booming chop to the pectorals of Nelson by Stryk Nyn, but his second one misses as his hand hits the ring post instead. Sean takes the opportunity to pull his foe’s entire body into the post. Vixxius tries to intervene to give her champion a break, yet Nelson is having none of it and stays on the attack. Back in the ring Nelson tries to squeeze the air out of his opponent’s lungs with the chain attached to them both. Vixxius riles the crowd up behind Stryk Nyn, however Sean slams him hard back on the canvas. Out on the ramp Sean again slams Stryk Nyn this time even harder on the rampway. The chain finds its way between the wickets of Stryk Nyn allowing Nelson to yank up and causes a lot of discomfort in the down-belows of his opponent. Vixxius springs into the ring to check on Stryk Nyn. Just as Nelson is looking to grab the win, out runs The Blade that gets his attention quickly. After a short verbal sparring, The Blade waffles Sean between the eyes! Stryk Nyn floors Nelson with a bone-jarring spear and gets the victory!
Takeaway: As much as seeing the conclusion of the war between Nelson and Malone could have been, Stryk Nyn more than held his own on short notice in a brutal match with Nelson. Nelson is one tough son of a gun and regularly can smash through many on the scene, yet Stryk Nyn got the win. Feels like it’s not the last we’ve seen of Stryk Nyn, Vixxius nor their feud with Sean.
Winner: Stryk Nyn (w/ Vixxius) via pinfall.
Match 5: Aiden Wright Vs. Joey Callahan (Bull Rope)—Joey clobbers Aiden off the jump then they fight outside. Callahan with the superior early strikes then a big boot to the dome of Wright. Aiden reverses an attack though and chokes Joey with the bull rope. Back inside Aiden continues to smash Joey with punches and kicks, then he starts his journey to touch all four corners for the win. After the third, however Joey tugs on the rope to prevent him reaching the fourth. Aiden seems to consider it as he still wants to fight. Callahan lands a big kick, but Wright catches him with a splash. Joey gets pulled into the official by Aiden. Callahan in response crushes his longtime friend and foe to the mat then proceeds to touch all four corners….but the official is still down. Aiden plants him on the canvas with a bear hug bomb. Wright touches one corner….then another…then a third. Joey is up on his feet. Aiden delivers a vicious clothesline then touches the fourth corner for the win.
Takeaway: For this to be Callahan’s last match I felt like it was fitting. He went toe-to- toe with a long-time friend, foe, training partner and in the end helped them look great. After the bell, Wright paraded to the back with his hands held high in victory while Joey’s family all entered the ring. They presented him with a 25 Years of Excellence Award and traded deep hugs all around. Only after this did Aiden return and give a bigger hug to his great friend before exiting again. Callahan kept his word that this was the end and left his boots in the middle of the ring. Only later did his son David come retrieve them possibly signifying he will be the one to carry on the family legacy.
Winner: Aiden Wright via four corner touch.
Match 6: “The Genesis” Allen Shirley Vs. “Strongman” Shawn Clark (C—Last Man Standing for the Heavyweight Championship)—Clark dominated early with his cinder block punches and stomps in the corner, then another smashing blow before finishing the combo with an early cannonball! Shirley rolls to the outside and catches Clark by surprise with a swift blow to the down-belows of the Champ. Allen lets the crowd know he is not here for them (unless they are his fans and then he thanks you greatly). He and Shawn trade chops, Shawn rakes the already scratched up back of Allen as they fight into the bleachers section of the arena. Clark hurls a half-full trash can at Shirley who reverses the next attack to send Clark flying into some chairs as fans scatter to avoid the grapplers. As they near the rail again Clark sends Shirley flying over it. As he recovers Shawn Irish whips him into the ring post then smashes him with a chair. Back in the ring Shirley is sent hard into the corner where a chair was positioned in between the ropes. Clark “crowns” Shirley with a chair. Big boot from the Champ then he pulls on the pectoral buttons of his opposition. Allen rakes his eyes in response. A TV is brought out by Clark. Clark misses a splash into the ring post then Shirley sends him into it again. Shawn hits Allen with a chair multiple times then goes for an Angel’s Wings on the TV outside, they both crash through it! Clark makes it to his feet by a nine count, Shirley is still watching TV.
Takeaway: Shawn Clark is a beast. He and Shirley have battled all around the area before and probably will a lot more (once Allen heals up of course). To his credit, Shirley brought the fight to the Strongman as well. The ending spot through the TV on the floor looked brutal, but good. Question is now: who will be the next to challenge Clark for the title?
Winner: “Strongman” Shawn Clark via answering the 10 count.
Match 7—MAIN EVENT: (Steel Cage) “Lethal Lariat” Lamar Phillips Vs. “Full Throttle” Frankie Valentine (w/ Tweety)—Time for talking is done! They trade shoves before Frankie lands some big punches early then sends Lamar into the cage four times to begin the match! Valentine follows up with punches in the corner. Phillips responds with wicked chops then a head lock with a takeover to control and slow the pace of longtime rival. Frankie tries to battle back only to eat a pair of harsh shoulder blocks from the Lethal Lariat. Lamar uses a head lock takeover again to further his control. He dumps Frankie over the ropes onto the apron next to the cage. As he finds his way back into the ring, Phillips snatches him up in a delayed suplex where he held Valentine for over a ten count from the crowd before crashing down onto the mat. He picks Frankie up and chucks him like a lawn dart into the cage! He follows with another big shop, snap mare then a trademark low falling headbutt to the lower back of his foe. He locks on a rear chin lock. As Valentine battles back, Phillips slams him hard back to the mat. Frankie fights him off with punches then a hurricanrana for a two count. They both bounce up quickly, however Lamar hits a Lethal Lariat but doesn’t get all of it as Frankie kicks out just before the third slap of mat of the official. The official takes a dive into the cage (w/ help from Phillips). Valentine with two Eat De Feets and a jackknife cover for a fifteen count as the official is still down. Finally, he crawls over to count a two count before Lamar kicks out. As Frankie rushes towards Lamar he catches him in a spinning spinebuster for a near fall. The official helps Valentine to his feet (for some reason) only to have Phillips hit a full on Lethal Lariat for the 1-2-3!
Takeaway: This was the final time these two will do battle. That’s a shoot, I saw the contract they both signed before this contest. It might be the most fitting bookend to the rival that has lasted over 20 years (longer than I have known both men). Frankie said it best when he said he was tired of Lamar always being in his way. Lamar said it best when he said there was no hate towards Valentine, only love for wanting to see the “Full Throttle” Frankie from years ago. I think both were accomplished. Not sure what is next for Frankie Valentine, but I’m sure it’ll be great. As far as Lamar Phillips, you got to think maybe a championship shot. Whether it’s the Infamous (sorry Kyle Gunner), Tag (w/ Lethal Gainz teammate Chris Gainz) or even Heavyweight (Shawn Clark)…be advised the Lethal Lariat is riding high and out for destruction.
Winner: “Lethal Lariat” Lamar Phillips via pinfall.
