Atlanta Wrestling Entertainment returned to Famous Pub for Follow the White Rabbit 3: What is Real?”
If you like southern strong style independent wrestling with a rowdy bar vibe, then this was the place for you on a Sunday afternoon.
Joining AWE's regular cast of chacters were Tomasso Ciampa, Martin Stone, John Skyler and Corey Hollis, all in top form.
Attendance was up from AWE’s last show at the Pub with around 80 in attendance -- many new faces along with all the usual suspects. They had a great time. Balls to-the wall action. Alcohol was flowing freely. Standing up for 3 hours+ was not a problem.
It wouldn’t be an AWE show without technical shortcomings. No mic for the ring. The interview area was a murky area in the back of the room. The panic fix worked. Such is the wacky world of AWE.
One thing for sure, the AWE matchmakers have been deft in the way they booking the core member of their roster against outside stars. And the talent keeps rising to the occasion. If they win, the match is credible and believable. If they lose, it's competitive and there is no quit.
Jimmy Rave said he was the longest reigning champion in North America (353 days) and you don’t get to be in main event at AWE without the holder of the Georgia Wrestling Crown. Ergo the main event would not be Ciampa/Stone 2. It would be Ciampa/Stone/Rave 1.
(1) Adrian Armour defeated David Starr to become the number one contender for the Georgia Wrestling Crown in 14:51. Josh Wheeler was giving random time calls like 11:48 to go. Armour was right there with Starr and way over the crowd. Little did they know.. Starr kicked out of the Destructo Discus Lariat. Armour was not to be denied and rolled Starr up in final 10 seconds. Starr claimed a fast count.
(2) Dale Patricks defeated Ronnie Dazzle in 5:20. Dazzle continues to struggle with his split personality. Patricks won it with a neckbreaker brainbsuter thingy that was kinda messy.
(3) Sound and Fury (Joe Black & Will Huckaby) defeated Coldhard Security (Jacoby Boykins & Chris Mayne with Paul Coldhard) in 10:35. Huckaby is so over with the AWE crowd it’s ridiculous. The pop for his ropes walk lucha arm drag blew the roof off. The hapless Paul Coldhard interjected himself into the match and got planted with Huckaby spinebuster.
AWE owner Josh Wheeler announced the following: AWE will crown their first tag team champions on June 19 at “Bobby and Stan’s Most Excellent Tag Team Tournament” set for Fanatics Arena. The 12 team field includes the AWE debut of World’s Cutest Tag Team (Joey Ryan & Candace LaRae). Season 3 starts August 7. AWE will be at Cross Keys High School on August 13 and returns to Famous Pub on August 14.
Wheeler also announced that had resigned as head of the company effective today, but would stay on as head of production.
(4) Iceberg defeated Tripp Cassidy in 7 minutes. Berg was opened up the hardway from and old cut and bled heavily but triumphed after three Ground Zero splashes. Score one for the Hierarchy over
Mickie Knuckles said there were multiple skanky bitches in the back that deserved to get their asses beaten and issued a delightful foul mouthed challenge.
(5) Mickie Knuckles defeated Priscilla Kelly in 7 minutes with a pumphandle sitout slam. Knuckles gave Kelly both barrels. Kelly is no diva. She hung tough and never backed down. Good match.
Ashton Starr cut a condescending promo on Knuckles while sitting on a barstool sipping a cocktail. Knuckles said she usually didn’t wrestle men but since Ashton didn’t have a dick she would make an exception. Ashton said not tonight honey. I’m drinking, maybe later.
(6) Spring Street Suicide Squad (Ken Lee & Chris Crunkk) defeated The Insiders (Slade Porter & Ace Perry) in 15 minutes. You’ve got to love Wheeler’s intros. He said Suicide Squad now hailed from a condo on Spring Street where everything has been gentrified. Porter said Vader would be pissed about all the flippy shit Perry and Crunkk were doing. He then asked who wanted to see his nipples? Nice blend of comedy and daredevil wrestling moves. Crowd was rooting for both teams. Porter tapped to Lee’s Koji Clutch. Handshakes all around after the match.
Sylar Cross came out with Mathias Darkthorne whacking him across the back with a kendo stick. Darkthorne said he had a problem with the main. Cross had skyrocketed to number 3 in the championship rankings and didn’t have a match tonight. Where were Ciampa and Stone ranked? “What is going to be real is what happens when you disrespect The Strong Style Panda.”
(7) Championship Ranking Match – Owen Knight defeated Aaron Epic in 10:20. Epic was distracted by the presence of Sugar Dunkerton on the ring apron and Knight rolled him up.
Dunkerton asked Epic for his rematch. Epic blew him off UNTIL Sugar said he knew where Epic’s daughter lived. Epic lost his mind with rage and demanded the rematch. This was It verged on turning AWE’s number one douche babyface.
(8) The Kraken (Murder One & Chip Day) defeated The Bruiserweights (John Skyler & Corey Hollis) in 18 minutes. Day’s ringwork is on par with Hollis and Skyler. Only the physique is holding him back. Bruiserweights kicked out of stereo pedigrees. Day kicked out of a flapjack/codebreaker combo. Murder foiled a second combo by Etherizing Skyler and pinned Hollis with a piledriver. This was a really good match.
(9) Jimmy Rave defeated Tommaso Ciampa and Martin Stone to retain the Georgia Wrestling Crown in a sudden death triple threat match at 19:12. The back and forth between Ciampa and Stone filled with inside baseball barbs was super entertaining. So was the “shitty little hat” sequence, playing off Ciampa’s antics at “Homegrown”. Fanss were wearing miniature hats for the occasion. Ciampa scooped the hats up and gave them a codebreaker. Stone begged Ciampa for the tag and gave the hats a People’s Elbow. Stone covered wth Ciampa counting the pin, but Rave pulled Ciampa out of the ring. Match had a boatload of great wrestling and all kinds of twists and turns in the plot. There were two ref bumps, belt shots, and run-ins galore. When the smoke cleared, Adrian Armour had aligned himself with the Hierarchy and ref number three Stan Robinson had kicked Ciampa in the groin and made a three count that was way too fast.
