On May 12 Georgia Premier Wrestling (GPW) began a new chapter, with a new building. “The Next Stage” was truly that, the evolution of GPW. 256 rowdy fans packed the new GPW arena at Canton Villages to watch a show packed with excitement and got their money’s worth.
“Pale Horse” Josey Quinn defeated Cuzin Shaggy. The night started off with two staples of GPW duking it out in the ring. Cuzin Shaggy had the energy of the crowd behind him, including “dosey-doeing” with several fans. The end came when Shaggy attempted a victory roll only to have Quinn counter with a roll-up holding the ropes. The crowd hates Quinn, who has a winning streak going on at GPW.
Before the next match, we saw a promo on the projector screens from the Good Ol’ Boys talking about their GPW Tag Team Championship rematch on June 9th against Mass Destruction. Cuzin Shaggy reveals that he suffered a concussion at the hands of Chase Enterprise’s tag-team of Cyrus the Destroyer and Magnum the Eliminator (Mass Destruction). Both say come June 9th they will regain the championships and celebrate with all of Canton, GA.
Cuzin Cletus defeated Cyrus the Destroyer (with Logan Chase III). These two are no strangers to one another, and have endured some memorable battles against each other in GPW. While Cyrus gained the upper hand in most of the match, with Chase’s interference, Cletus managed to pull one out-thanks to Cuzzin Shaggy. The ending of the match saw Cyrus going for a Vader Bomb, only to have Cuzzin Shaggy come out to cause a distraction. Cletus took advantage with a power bomb, and gained the pinfall.
Gil Quest & Jason Collins defeated Talon Williams & Luke Grimes. Quest has been on a roll lately, and the fans do not know how to take him. He has been helping Torque in his feud with Brandon Collins. Tonight, he tagged with Brandon’s brother to take on the team of Talon and Luke Grimes (who is a newcomer from 1 Fall Power Factory). Grimes looked very impressive throughout the match, showing a vicious side, however, mayhem broke loose, and Grimes found himself fall victim to a back-cracker from Quest.
Ashton Starr defeated Dani Jordyn. This was the first appearance for Starr in a GPW ring, and he made a memorable one. The crowd was not happy with him, or his flamboyant antics. Jordyn had a very strong showing in this match, and had the victory in her grasp on several occasions. However, Starr was able to gain the victory with a running knee lift.
Brandon Collins defeated Torque in a Lumberjack match for the GPW Cruiserweight Championship. This match was one that had the fans on the edge of their seats. Collins and Torque have been enmeshed in this rivalry several months, and it doesn’t look like it’s over. For months Collins has eluded Torque by running away, and taking count-out victories. Torque attempted to even the playing field, by requesting this match, and Gil Quest was his #1 lumberjack standing guard. This match saw Collins once again attempt to run, until the Lumberjacks hoisted him in the air, carrying him to the ring, and tossing him in for Torque to decimate. There were several highlights, to include Collins attempting to German Suplex Torque from the apron to the ground, only to be caught by the lumberjacks. The end came when Cyrus and Cletus got into a physical altercation, leading the lumberjacks to brawl. Collins took advantage and blasted Torque in the head with a chair. After the match, Collins continued the beat down, only to have Gil Quest rush the ring and make the save. Torque demanded this feud come to an end on June 9th in a steel cage match. Gil Quest will be the special referee.
Billy Gunn defeated QT Marshall (with Logan Chase III). The former WWE Superstar, and standout in the faction Degeneration X, had the people on their feet for the entire match. He was slapping hands, and even kissing babies at the beginning of the match. Early on, Logan Chase was ejected from the match, which evened the odds for Gunn. Gunn was victorious with his signature “Famouser” onto Marshall.
Vary Morales defeated Nate Wilde in a “Fans bring the Weapons” match. The main event saw these two competitors take each other to the limit. The match was made due to Vary beating Nate with a chair, which a fan handed him, on April 14. Nate asked and received this match, and boy did the fans deliver. There were pool noodles, yard sticks, paddles, thumbtacks, skateboards, pots/pans, and even a guitar. The competitors used everything that was not nailed down, including Vary suplexing Nate onto the guardrail in an attempt to raddle his insides, and performing a Michinoku Driver onto a trashcan. Throughout the match fans were chanting “we want blood”, and boy did they get it. The finish came when Vary busted a guitar over Nate Wilde’s head, getting the pinfall. When the referee went to check on Nate he was blindsided by Vary, who in a rage continued the beating. The entire locker room emptied and attempted to keep these two apart. Nate, who was busted open, didn’t stay down and took out everyone with a plancha. GPW co-owner Darryl Morris attempted to break up the melee and announced that on June 23rd, Vary and Nate will face off one more time in a first blood match, which will be unsanctioned by GPW.
Georgia Premier Wrestling will return on May 18, at the GPW arena, for “Night with a Legend”. This event will feature the famous Mr. Wrestling II. Matches announced are: Drew Game/Jessica Leigh vs. Drew Renee and Ethan Cage, “Michigan Muscle” Cody Vance vs. Brent Banner and Cyrus the Destroyer (w/Logan Chase III) vs. Joey Sparks.
