Attendance was approximated at around 450. That looked to be right but unverified.
Diana Michel looking fantastic as always, opens the show by getting the crowd hyped.
Cam Carter (with Logan Chase) vs Owen Knight
Referee: Todd Fox
Cam doesn't even let Owen in the ring with a suicide dive first then an over the top rope plancha. This crowd is loudly and consistently chanting for Owen Knight. Owen is getting very little offense in, playing full face, but is finally getting a little bit of momentum. Owen goes for the pin but Cam kicks out. Logan starts distracting the ref as both members of Not Yet Rated runs out. Kevin Ryan gives Owen a superkick and places him for Cam to come off the top and score the pinfall. This was a decent match to start things out with. B-
Gary Lamb comes out to deliver his State of Honor address. He says no more gyms for Georgia wrestling, no more American Legions, no more wrestlers that don't look like wrestlers. He proceeds to announce the new Southern Cup Invitational Tournament (SCI Tournament), a 16-man Tournament that takes place over 2 nights, May 1st and 2nd. The winner will be awarded the Southern Cup which can be turned in for a shot at the SHW title at any time.
Joe Black comes out and immediately announces that he will be entering that tournament and anyone else that enters it that it is safe to say, "Joe is going to kill you!"
Joe Black vs Sean Legacy
Referee: Jeremie Prater
Mutual signs of respect from each competitor. This match starts out with heated, quick moves with reversals. Now we are having a chop contest back and forth. It's pretty obvious that Legacy is getting the worse of it but is hanging with it. Legacy with a shoulder tackle, a drop kick, and a huracanrana that all seem completely ineffective. They have Joe booked as a complete monster here, no-selling almost everything thrown at him by Legacy. But regardless, Joe isn't able to put Legacy away after a couple of near falls. Legacy gets a couple of near falls also. Joe Black executes a spear for the 3 count and win. Fist bump of respect at the end. Match was excellent. Edge of your seat. If they beat this match for match of the night, I would be super impressed. I love face versus face, respect matches. A+
Dani Jordyn comes out once again to cheers and she is playing up to the crowd now, owning her newfound adoration. Katerina Perez came out and I just now realize who she is. Perez is in the same faction as David Ali in Spinebuster (not valet, I got it David) I find interesting booking to put David's two biggest allies in different promotions against each other. Maybe that is just me.
Dani Jordyn vs Katalina Perez
Referee: Jeremie Prater
Perez is really taking it to Dani. Perez rolls her to the outside and goes to stomp her. Dani pulls her leg out from under her and Perez takes a head bump on the edge of the ring. Match goes back and forth pretty evenly. Dani out of nowhere applies a Fujiwara armbar and taps Perez out. As Dani is walking out, Brooklyn Creed comes out of the crowd, grabs Dani by the hair, and slams her head first into the railing. Creed puts her into the ring and begins beating on her. Perez attempts to help Dani. Creed drops Perez with a DDT. Brooklyn goes out and gets Dani's trophy and nails her on the head with it, laying her out. Creed then breaks the trophy on the concrete into a million pieces. Creed, then grabs the burn book and begins to wail on Dani with it. Finally a hooded female runs out to confront Creed. She removes the hood and reveals to be Lindsay Snow! At first, you don't know who's side she is on. Then Snow knocks the burn book out of Creed's hands and stands off until Creed exits. Snow helps Dani up, shakes her hand, and holds her hand up in victory. Snow then helps Dani to the back. Well I guess that makes it official. Dani has fully transitioned to face. A
Kyle Matthews vs. David Ali
Referee: Jeremie Prater
Matthews goes right after Ali. Matthews is showing a much more aggressive side this go around. David leans in and begins to get some offense in. It appears that Matthews' knee is hurt. But despite that, he does a suicide dive to Ali on the outside. Once back in the ring, Ali takes back control. Ali hits a big splash from the top turnbuckle for a nearfall. Kyle gets Ali into a half-crab submission but Ali reaches the ropes to break it. Ali locks in a sleeper hold. Matthews jumps off of the turnbuckle, flipping backwards, while the sleeper was still locked in and pinned Ali for the three count. Ali is pissed. I feel a blow-off brewing. B
Gunner Miller comes out to quite a few boos. Sunny and Ravenna comes out to a roar.
Sunny Daze w/ Ravenna Vein vs Gunner Miller
Referee: Todd Fox
Sunny hits him with a headbutt and a sitout facebuster directly off the bat. Sunny gets the two count. Gunner hits three spears and a jackhammer to win the match in five minutes or less.
Yes, you probably just heard me audibly groan. I make no beans about not liking Gunner Miller's in ring character. I find it to be a lazy, uninspired Goldberg wannabe. I personally like Southern Honor because it's new, fresh, and innovative. So, when I'm in that zone, don't hand me something recycled with a nice, new cellophane package and expect me to swallow it. C
Logan Creed comes out and tells him that the fans is what has brought him this far. And that 4 years ago Gunner had Jeff G. Bailey, and Scenic City, and his Triple Crown. And that back then Logan needed the Gunner match. But this is four years later and now Gunner needs the Logan match. But that isn't why he came back. He came back to Southern Honor wrestle some of the best wrestlers in the business. Gunner proceeds to spear Sunny Daze, who was still in the ring, again. As Logan turns and walks to the back, Gunner starts to come after him screaming You're Mine! Afterwards, in the ring, Ravenna turns on Sunny and low blows him. She then kicks him as she leaves the ring. B (Simply for the Logan needed Gunner, Gunner needed Logan comment)
Party Planner (PP) comes out to do his gimmick. And he is waaaaaayyyyy freaking over. Ashton comes out ready. He has new gear and a new hair do. Both suit him well. Corey comes out with Pierce and Judas tagging along right behind him.
Corey Hollis (c) (with Brady Pierce & Mikal Judas) vs Ashton Starr for the SHW Heavyweight Title
Referee: Todd Fox
Corey attacks Ashton during the introductions. They brawl to the outside. They are taking turns slamming each other into the railing. Ashton is thrown into the ropes and is met with the fist of Mikel Judas. Corey has stayed on Ashton not allowing him to get much defense in. Corey goes up top, but Ashton whips him with his weave. Ashton then goes up and executes a nice looking huracanrana from the top turnbuckle. Ashton is getting in some offense now and lands a big splash from the top and a cover for a two count. Judas distracts the ref and Pierce delivers a spinebuster to Ashton. Ashton grabs the rope to prevent the three count. Corey distracts the ref again to allow Judas and Pierce to get into the ring and attempt to interfer again, but this time they are caught and the ref sends them to the back. Corey is angry and is arguing with the ref. It gets heated. Corey swings on the ref. The ref shoves him back. Ashton is right behind him and rolls him up for a quick three count and the win!!!!! Ashton Starr is your new SHW Heavyweight Champion. The entire house erupts in cheers. Ashton being smart, slips out of the ring and celebrates atop the stage. Lethal Poison is furious, stomping around in the ring. I was definitely almost swerved. I came to realize with only a couple of minutes left that Ashton was going to come out on top. B+
--Intermission--
While the cage is being assembled, Lethal Poison is trying to get the ref to reverse the decision. They drag Gary out to intimidate him. Gary refuses to reverse the decision but he does agree that the count was fast and he says that he will give Corey a rematch. Corey wants it now. Gary says you got it. Corey says take down this cage. Gary says nope and Pierce and Judas are banned from ringside. This match pales in comparison to the former match they had. They have several typical cage spots and Ashton gets much of the upperhand and is headed over the top of the cage to win, when Pierce and Judas come out on stage dragging a bleeding Party Planner. They continue beating on him as Ashton watches on. The distraction is enough for Corey to grab Ashton by his long weave and jerk him back down to the mat. This allows Corey to walk out the door of the cage as the first ever two-time Southern Honor Champion. As Lethal Poison leave, officials come out to help PP. This was storytelling done pretty effectively. There was some talk about the second match didn't last long enough but I disagree. It couldn't be too long or it would have taken away the allure of the advertised main event that was also going to be in the cage. You don't want to overshadow your biggest draw of the night. B
Not Yet Rated (with Honor Society) vs Lynch Mob for the new SHW Tag Team Championship
Not Yet Rated comes out being obnoxious. As the Lynch Mob comes out, Cam Carter and Logan Chase run down and attack them with chairs. Then they handcuff Joey to the outside of the ring and throw Matt into the ring and start the match. Matt is already bleeding profusely. Kingsley and Ryan are absolutely punishing Matt with the kendo stick and chair that was passed into the cage from Carter. Ryan being cocky, shows everyone that he could go over the cage at any time to win the match before going back down to deliver more punishment. Matt gets a small comeback in the ring but is shut back down. Ryan and Kingsley jump from opposite corners onto Matt. Meanwhile, Joey is trying to use a hammer to break free from the handcuffs. Matt manages to knock Ryan and Kingsley off the ropes, crotching them both. Carter threatens to get into the cage but Owen Knight runs out and flysfrom the stage on top of Carter. Looks like unfinished business to me. Knight manages to get his hands on the handcuff key and tosses it to the ref who finally releases Joey to be able to go into the cage, but he takes a chair with him. Knight and Carter continue to brawl outside and Logan scurries to get out of the way. Joey is cleaning house inside the cage. He picks up Matt and urges him to be the one to finish them off. Matt climbs to the top, delivers a frog splash while Joey holds NYR's arms above their heads, and gets the three count. The Lynch Mob is your inaugural Southern Honor Tag Team Champions!!!!! Great story with locking Joey out of the cage. Especially, if that limp that Joey was carrying with him is real. Matt definitely did all of the hard work in this match. It appears though that behind the scenes Joey might be hurt more than people know because he was protected the whole match. A-
It was a great show overall and possibly my favorite Southern Honor show looking at it as a whole. The match of the night for my money was definitely Joe Black vs Sean Legacy. Southern Honor 18 will be at the Action Building on March 6th.
