From Jeremy “The Impact” York:
As the part two of a back-to-back weekend where Night One was at New Realm Brewery, the superstars of DSW were hyped and ready for a big night of action at Monday Night Garage on Sunday! Featuring seven total matches, the night was full of action.
Officials: Paul Santa, Mike Fullilove
We start with Miss Elizabeth laying down the law of the land. Then she introduces the “Drunkest Commentary Team” of Drew “Drewski” Dickinson and “The Voice of Violence” Nathan Hamilton. Hamilton aids Dickinson to ringside as Drew is one day removed from being on the wrong end of a Jacob Johnson beatdown at New Realm. Hamilton debuted new custom entrance music and it was popping! Nathan has the house mic and we learn he is the ring announcer for the night. The music of the “Six Foot Bombshell” Gemma Jewels can be heard as she and Concierge Jesse Morales saunter to the ring.
The music of Rose Gold hits and she greets many young fans just outside the curtain on her way to the ring. Out of nowhere a mismatched, weirdly clothed unknown person runs up to her from the shadows and blasts her with a pipe to the back of her knee! After getting “Kerriganed”, Rose was clutching her knee and clearly in a lot of pain. “The AP” Audrey Allen ran over to help Gold and the mystery attacker ran to the back. As she was checking on Rose, Gemma grabs the mic to say how “unfortunate” that event was. As Audrey got in the ring to defend Gold, we hear more music hit and the new GM of Deep South marches to the ring. It’s the one, the only Simon Sermon! He tells Jewels that this type of shanigans will not fly anymore in DSW and asks the crowd if they would like to still see a championship match. The crowd answers back a resounding “YES”. Simon looks at Allen and says, if she can defeat Gemma’s concierge Jesse then he will grant her the opportunity to take on Gemma for the vacant title (which Gemma has possession of after taking it on Saturday).
Match 1: “The AP” Audrey Allen V. Jesse Morales (w/ Gemma Jewels)—Jesse and Gemma tried everything they could to offset the power and ability of Audrey, but she was too much for the concierge. Jesse (an official when not with Jewels) did pull off an impressive moonsault, but had no answer for a crushing spear that nearly cut him in half and a chokeslam from “The AP” that sealed the victory!
Winner: “The AP” Audrey Allen via pinfall
Match 2: Gemma Jewels (w/ Jesse Morales) V. “The AP” Audrey Allen (for the vacant DSW Women’s Championship)—For as many times as we’ve seen these two face off in the last year plus, this was a way different match than any before. Jewels with the jump on Allen out of the gate. Normal Gemma tricks plus Jesse and Nathanial Vanderbilt (dressed as the mystery attacker of Rose Gold) on the outside to attempt to thwart Audrey’s chance to prevail. “The AP” had a different strategy to not give Jewels enough time to set up the usual strategy, possibly because Allen had just had one match already. Despite all the outside and inside tactics it was Audrey who got the drop on Gemma with a step up spear for the win! Confetti goes off all around the ring as new GM Simon Sermon enters the ring to present Audrey with the championship! Gemma was well on her way to a full-blown tantrum as she screamed first into the air THEN at Vanderbilt and Jesse who both accused the other of causing the loss for their side. Takeaway: After many previous attempts by Audrey to dethrone Gemma in the past twelve plus months, she stifled any outside antics to grab win number two all-time over the main pillar of DSW’s Women’s Division since the reboot. Hats off to Jewels though as her in-ring work and overall fitness has really improved in the last year. If you think this is the last chapter of these two, I’d think again. This is a war that could wage for a long time.
Winner: (and NEW Deep South Women’s Champion) “The AP” Audrey Allen via pinfall
Match 3: “Panama City Prince” DRP V. “Educated Athlete” Troy Carter V. JT Paradox—Hold on to your hats here folks! Action was non-stop as each showcased their unique styles and move-sets. DRP utilized his quickness and elusiveness, while Troy was equipped with a technical prowess unmatched by his competitors. Paradox has the defining power advantage along with a spontaneous energy to form an attack from out of nowhere (including the top rope). In the end, DRP hit a Panama City Destroyer on Paradox then got caught by Carter for a Package Piledriver giving the 1…2…3 to the “Educated Athlete” Troy Carter.
Takeaway: For a match where it was all gas and no brakes, the trio made the most of it. With all three being relatively new to Deep South’s fanbase, the beginning was more wonderment from the fans that grew into full blown excitement by the ending sequence. The more these three appear in DSW, the more the crowd will anticipate what they bring to the table.
Winner: “Educated Athlete” Troy Carter via pinfall
Match 4: Strength In Numbers (Jay “Alpha” Miller, CT Entertainment, “Body Snatcher” Hakeem Young) V. Aaron Dallas, Nawfside Heroes (Jose Manuel, Shoota Gabe)—GM Simon Sermon announced pre-match that if any member of SIN was pinned during the match that the other team would get a tag-team title match at the next show! Team Dallas Heroes with the early advantage using their quickness and triple teams tandem moves (an airplane spin into double suplex) to keep SIN on the defensive. However, they are not the power faction of DSW for nothing as they catch their foes up in their grasp. They control the good guys for a good bit before the hot tag causes all six competitors to be involved all at once! At one point, official Paul Santa gets trapped in the corner as one by one each wrestler runs into the corner to stack up the splashes and damage. As the melee subsides, Jose executes a running bulldog as Gabe adds a Codebreaker to the finale and the Nawfside Heroes get the win AND the next title shot at Young and Miller at the next show.
Takeaway: Deep South wants to build their tag and women’s divisions over the summer. Bringing in Nawfside and others, while having SIN, the Wonderboys and more already there is a great start. This should attract more top teams to want to get in the mix at DSW sooner rather than later.
Winners: Nawfside Heroes (Shoota Gabe, Jose Manuel), Aaron Dallas via pinfall
Match 5: Jacob Johnson V. “Agent 003” Chad Skywalker (Beltline Brawl)—Some of the weapons used by either participant: chair(s), ringside metal table(s), hammer, tool box, glass flutes, confetti cannon, almost anything else not nailed down. They also took turns smashing one another on the ringside tables fans were seated at, had a striking contest while seated across from each other next to the bar while also pulling off flying and running attacks from practically everywhere in the building. Unfortunately for Skywalker, the current level of violence of Johnson was too much as he used his Jersey’s Strongest Slam for the victory. Takeaway: Pushing Johnson as the next top contender is a nice change up from the norm, especially doubling up on the violent attack he had on commentator Drew “Drewski” Dickinson the previous day. Chad looked super strong in a losing effort and may have gotten the bigger jump in status after all the recent work he’s put in.
Winner: Jacob Johnson via pinfall
Match 6: “Hollywood” Hunter James V. August Artois V. “Big Strong” Mims—Before this got underway, the “Big Brolic Cowboy” Tyson Maddux came out to say a few words and announce he was only here to support his friend Mims in this next match. Plenty of great talent in this matchup all jammed into a few brief minutes of actual action. Artois brought a chair into the ring which turned into a tug of war between Maddux and the official. As Tyson won the battle, the chair inadvertently hit Mims in the abdomen allowing August to roll him up for the win, as Maddux looked on in wonderment. Afterwards, we get the nod of TWO upcoming feuds as Tyson and Mims traded blows while James went after Artois on the outside of the ring. Takeaway: Seemed that the point of the entire match was to get those two programs started while sacrificing all the amazing talent of all involved. Could have just been an interview segment that went sideways instead of having top talent on the ring with little chance to really show it.
Winner: August Artois defeated “Hollywood” Hunter James, “Big Strong” Mims via pinfall
Match 7—Main Event: Najasism (C-DSW Heavyweight Champion) V. Alex Kane (Falls Count Anywhere)—At the sound of the bell, Kane flew into Naja in the corner with wicked flying strikes. They spill outside where Naja runs the length of a table at ringside before summersaulting onto Kane like a cannonball. They brawl back inside the ring. Kane tries to fill up a Bingo card of different suplexes, each more impressive than the last. Naja with the lionsault as they battle back outside the ring. Kane smashes Naja onto a metal table then follows it up with his vintage running splash on the apron. Naja unveils a table with Alex Kane’s name on it, yet it’s Alex who spears the champ through it in the corner! Naja with a low blow to Kane, then another. They find a kendo stick and wear each other out with it. Kane chokeslams Naja through a merch table. They battle towards the entryway where Naja gets the upperhand, laying Kane across another table on the floor. Modified Froggy-Bo from the top to the floor as Naja crashes through Kane and the table. All that was left was the official to count the pinfall.
You winner, and STILL champ….”Hoochie Daddy” Najasism!
After the match, Kane offers a handshake that Naja eventually obliges. Then the new number one contender Jacob Johnson unleashes a furious beatdown of the champ to put him on notice that he is not only NEXT, he is coming to take the title.
Takeaway: Another chaotic banger match for Najasism and Alex Kane. Both left it all out there and really concentrated more on the “Falls Count Anywhere” aspect than using a bunch of weapons to keep it a different match from the Beltline Brawl earlier in the afternoon. Najasism performances get better each time and unseating him from his perch will take someone truly special. Alex Kane came up just short after a solid build up to the payoff match. Not sure where he goes from here. Jacob is a former DSW Heavyweight champion in his own right and poses a big threat to the “Hoochie Daddy”. As the heavyweight title picture gets more crowded, there’s also a lurking feel in the air that a few outside challengers may be on the horizon as well. For a double show weekend where Deep South could have really set themselves on a big-time level, night two’s show definitely helped make up for a not as eventful night one. DSW has another double up weekend later in the year. Maybe they can make that a bigger display of what they are capable of and build on this first shot at it.
