Shalandra Royal sang the National Anthem
1st Round: Jason Collins vs Matt Lynch
Collins immediately attacks Lynch before the bell but Lynch is right back into it with a back body drop and several shoulder blocks. Lynch followed up with two successful suicide dives. Collins gets a running clothesline in the corner. Lynch gets Collins up into a fireman's carry into a neckbreaker and goes for the pin. Collins kicks out at 2. Lynch gets a double stomp off the top turnbuckle onto Collins who's hanging on the second turnbuckle and Lynch drags Collins to the center of the ring. He goes up top and lands a frog splash to get the clean three count win. B+
1st Round: Sean Dean vs Paul Manson
Dean comes out with his GPW title. Manson's music hits and the lights go out. Manson charges the ring and delivers a crossbody to Dean to open the match. Manson is staying on him with a suicide dive on the outside. Once back in, Dean finally gets in some offense with a backbreaker into a fallaway slam into the turnbuckle. Dean is in full control now. He executes a jackhammer that puts Gunner Miller's to shame. Manson gets a running knee in but Dean keeps the lease short on him. Dean locks in a camel clutch submission and steps it over into a side choke. Manson picks up Dean into a sidewalk slam. Manson catches him with slingblade. Manson goes for the springboard neckbreaker and Dean catches him with a backstabber in mid-flight. Dean puts Manson in a submission and Manson taps out. I have to admit. I have never really been much of a fan of Manson and they have always pushed him so hard. But it took him losing tonight for me to see what he could really do. B
Cage has brand new tights and gear. They look great on him. Much better. Cage is not letting Ali get in much offense at first. David finally gets in a cross body, but Cage gets the control back and hits an elbow off the top for a close rope break. Ali goes to the outside and runs Cage into the post. Ali is doing well drawing heat throughout the match with the things he is saying. We get a lot of back and forth until Cage goes up top and misses the landing hard on his backside. Ali capitalizes by catching Cage in a sleeper. Cage tries to make it to the ropes but goes completely out and can't respond to the count giving Ali the win. It was a creative way to let the smaller man go over without making Cage look bad. C+
1st Round: Erik Havok vs Brent Banner
Havok and Banner have a pose off that got over pretty well. Brent has new gear, new music, and is accompanied by his tag partner, Titan?! Either way, most of this crowd of going crazy over him. Collar and elbow to start things out. Banner with a dropkick. Banner is getting in hits while Havok is fussing at fans on the outside. Banner takes a hard bump in the ring edge when he attempts a running kick and Havok pills his leg out from under him. When back in Havok seems to be in full control, wearing Banner down. Banner catches Havok with a running knee. Havok executes a back body drop. Havoke goes for a chokeslam but Banner reverses it into a neckbreaker. Banner covers but only gets a two count. Banner goes up to the top turnbuckle and Havok follows him. They struggle but Banner gets the upper hand, knocking him to the mat. Banner hits a frog splash for the pinfall win. Banner celebrates with Titan in the ring after. I am shocked to say that Havok, out of the two looked a little clunky. The two may have just not been a good fit together. B-
--Intermission--
The Movement (Talon Williams & Chip Hazard) vs Cyrus the Destroyer and Brandon Collins for the RCW Tag Team Titles
Talon and Collins start the match out. Test of strength into Talon getting the upperhand. Chip and Talon is doing a good job singling out Collins and doing a series of double team moves. As Collins is thrown into the ropes, Cyrus tags himself in and cleans house. He overpowers everything attempted. Cyrus hits a Pearl River Plunge but Talon breaks up the pin. Collins comes off the top rope and misses Talon, landing on top of Cyrus. Once they are all back up, Cyrus hits a deep six to get the pinfall and become the new RCW Tag Team Champions. And with that, the Illuminati has all of the gold in RCW!!! However between the Movement kind of having an off night and it being a new pairing of Cyrus and Collins, the match was a little shaky. I fully expect those things to be shored up though. Cyrus is just a monster. C
After the match, Cyrus drags one of the members of the Movement into the ring and places a chair over him. Cyrus climbs to the second turnbuckle and does a Vader bomb onto him, causing the Movement member to go into convulsions. The rest of the Illuminati has come out to congratulate their members.
Final Four Way Elimination match to crown winner of Best of the Best Tournament: Matt Lynch vs Sean Dean vs David Ali vs Brent Banner ( The winner gets a trophy and a title shot)
Once all competitors are announced, Chris Ganz comes out and says that Banner cheated by putting him through six chairs. And he is going to enter this match He is doing some done great mic work!! He insults them all, tells them to weigh because he doesn't wrestle fat people. He also states that he is going to have his own SCI tournament for just cruiserweights, the Super Cruiserweight Invitational. This was the funniest statement of the night when you come to realize that Scott Hensley AND Gary Lamb are in the building. The bell rings and they each take turns laying into Ganz. Ganz crawls out of the ring. Lynch with a frogsplash and pin eliminates Ali. Banner with a frogsplash and pin eliminates Dean.
Lynch pulls Banner into a fireman's carry and falls back with him into the turnbuckles. He follows up with a frogsplash but only gets a two count. Banner comes off the top turnbuckle with an awkward splash and covers for the three count. As they give Banner his trophy, Cyrus hits the ring and attacks Titan, taking him out while the rest of the Illuminati surround Banner. Banner is appearing to make an attempt to take them all on but John Bishop and Ethan Cage run down to help as well as Lynch getting back in the ring and they all have a stand off. The Illuminati back down and exit the ring. I have to say it feels a little off to have GPW Heavyweight Champion, Sean Dean, a champion in Spinebuster and Southern Fried, David Ali, and Southern Honor Tag Team Champions, Matt Lynch in a fourway match with Brent Banner and Banner is the one who goes over. In one night, Banner pinned, Erik Havok, Sean Dean, and Matt Lynch. That's a little hard to swallow. Also as good as the match was, it contained a pretty peeve of mine. Dean and Ali in the early things of the match were breaking up each other's pinfall attempts. This is an elimination match, boys, not a first to score a pinfall or even who eliminates the most people. Go ahead and let an opponent eliminate another competitor. All it does is get you closer to your goal. B-
The entire show was well planned and thought out. Almost everyone got a nice spotlight.
The trophy looked horrible. It appeared to be a plastic, WWE wrestling ring toy that had "RCW" painted on it.
Even though I had doubts about Banner winning, the crowd didn't. They loved it. And when it comes down to it, if you aren't listening to your crowd, are you retaining any of them? The fans are what it is all about, after all.
