From Rob Brodhecker
The last time I was here at the Heard County Rec Center was several years ago to photograph a UIW show with the main event being AJ Steele vs. Steve "The Brawler" Lawler, so it's been a hot minute since then. They have the seating spaced out, but only two other people are wearing facial coverings. Several familiar faces in the crowd, and some of their kids have grown up by about a foot.
Speaking of news vs. olds, my usual match descriptions will be shorter than expected due to me forgetting to turn the microphone on during one of the matches. D'oh!
Jason Boyd is your ring announcer with Darryl Hall as your referee.
Crowd count at Heard County Rec Center is at 83, up 20 from the previous show. The next show is on Halloween night.
1. El Corona vs. Stevens Michaels
Carbona is a masked wrestler and is wearing a long sleeve shirt to cover his torso. Carbona on the early offense, Michaels takes over and gets a near fall. A Death Valley Driver finishes off Corona at 3:56. A palatable appetizer, C+.
2. Jamie Hall with Lamar Phillips vs. Lamar Diggs
The crowd loves them some Diggs. Don't' know much about Hall. Most of the early match is of Hall trying to move the bigger Diggs, which doesn't happen. Diggs latches on a chancery and gator rolls Hall. Distractions from Phillips help Hall gain the advantage with Hall working the arm of Diggs and Diggs selling the effects. The ending begins with Diggs's scoop slam, but he's too close to the ropes. Phillips grabs Diggs' legs, and Hall falls on top of Diggs, with Phillips holding onto Diggs's legs. Time 14:22. I liked that match; it was olds done well, B.
Boyd announces the intermission, but Murder One makes an appearance, and he takes the microphone from Boyd. He says that he runs this show, and he won't be facing off against Valentine in the main event. Still, if Valentine does win against his opponent, Valentine will get to choose the type of match that they will have. The Supreme Leader goes off on the crowd, singling out a couple of people. He gets into the face of one fellow, daring the guy to slap him; he doesn't. The two older ladies are a different matter, and they DO swing at MO. He uses them as examples of the lack of masculinity in the crowd(my wording, there's a video out there of the full promo, I've already shared it.) Georgia is lucky to find 10 people who can rile up a crowd, and Murder One is in the top 3.
Intermission.
3. "Do or Die" Chip Day vs. Bobby Flaco
Chip comes out wearing a mask, up to 4 people in the building wearing one. Flaco is coming directly from Orlando; I heard he made an appearance of some obscure show down there. Just kidding, love ya, man. A slow start that quickly picks up. Day wins at 16:13, B+. Grrrr.
4. Dem West Ga Boyz vs. Talon Onyx and Papa Marko.
Due to COVID concerns in his family, Taliaferro was not in attendance. Onyx is taking heat for most of the match. Frequent double teams by the Boyz. Marko was undead for most of the strikes he took. Boyz set up for a double team, but Marko grabs Storm's leg to prevent it. Nelson chases Marko off, Onyx low blows the non-legal man Nelson. Storm launches a crossbody from the top rope, but Onyx rolls through and gets the pin at 10:26. There were a couple of off spots, but still a good match, C+.
5. Main Event: Larmar Phillips with Jamie Hall vs. Frankie Valentine with Tweety
I guess that Frankie went back to the Valentine moniker. Phillips interacts with the crowd all during the match, good stuff. Frankie is taking loads of shots to the head; I thought he was bleeding at one point. Jamie gets ejected from ringside after Darryl catches him interfering. Several momentum shifts between them, but Frankie gets on a roll. Jamie sneaks back to the ringside area, hiding from Darryl. Frankie's on the outside, and sunsets flip over Phillips. Jamie reaches out and grabs Phillips's hands to stop him from going over. Ref Darryl sees it and kicks at Jamie's hands, causing Phillips to flip over for the pin. Frankie wins at 15:21. Phillips and Hall beat on Frankie until Lamar Diggs makes the save. Diggs and Valentine stand tall, B-.
Final Thoughts:
1. That might not be egg on my face.
2. I knew nothing about Jamie Hall, so I was pleasantly surprised by the match he had with Lamar Diggs.
3. Diggs continues to improve his game. Bold prediction: by the time that 2021 ends, I wouldn't be surprised to see him in the main event angle somewhere.
4. Snarky thought: Talon needs to pop some HGH. Still love his work, though.
5. Can you tell which match I didn't have the microphone one for yet?
6.I know someone had recorded that match, and I will share it.
7. Thanks to Robert Seabron for tagging me in the Murder One promo. Will share it.
8. This was a very straight forward show, showcasing different talent and moving the storylines forward.
9. Whatever you say, Murder One created some female dogs tonight.
10. This doesn't have to be brain surgery, folks.
