Instead of Throwback Thursday, it's Throwback
Saturday as WGW presents a show that wouldn't be that different than what UIW
would have presented back in the day. I am not saying that's good or bad; their
fans will decide that. Just for me, it's a case of Deja vu, all over again.
Four
matches were advertised on the poster: Pretty Boy Floyd vs. Extreme Heat, Brad
Lynch vs. Josh Storm, Dany Only vs. Sean Nelson, and Frankie Valentine defends
his newly won WGW Championship against Lamar Phillips in your scheduled main
event.
God Bless the USA by Lee Greenwood plays instead
of The Star-Spangled Banner; that's a switch-up.
Ryan "Butterbean" Harmon and AJ Black
are the referees, with Stan Robinson making an appearance for one match. Jamie
Daniel is your ring announcer. I counted the crowd at 140 +/-.
1. Talon Oxyn vs. Jay Lucas
Oxyn's all over the ringside area, taunting the old ladies and mocking everyone else. He finally gets into the ring, and the match starts. I don't know much about Lucas other than he hails from New Orleans. Oxyn's doing hip swivels on all sides of the ring as if the old ladies needed any more energy. Oxyn puts on Lucas's ring jacket, Lucas wipes his nether regions with Oxyn's shirt. For some reason, this upsets Oxyn. We get some action 4 minutes after the bell rings. Lucas has about 6 inches in height and about 50 lbs on Oxyn. Lucas falls for the old let's shake hands trick but quickly rebounds. Oxyn's reaction expressions are bordering on Over The Top. A nice drive-by kick by Oxyn. Oxyn is flying around the ring like it's time to drive on I-20 at midnight. Lucas catches Oxyn in a spinebuster to give himself some life. A springboard, delayed falcon's arrow almost give Lucas the win. Lucas gets Oxyn in a pop-up RKO for a near fall. Oxyn tells Ref Harmon to check on a fan, and with Harmon doing so, Oxyn low blows Lucas and gets him in a package driver for the win at 16:12.
2. "Hustler" Ric Rodgers vs. Lou
Taylor
This would fall under a New School/nursing home type of match. Taylor is a tall, good-looking guy, while Rodgers is marginally younger than the ladies at ringside. Rodgers shoves Ref Black, the young Mr. Black shoves Rogers out of the ring. Heel tactics by Rodgers rule the ring until he whips Taylor into Black, knocking Black down. Rodgers grabs a chair and does an Eddie Guerrero; the recovering Black buys it. Taylor appeals with Black to ask the crowd. Black believes the crowd and reverses the decision and awards Taylor the match at 6:21.

So Fine Mafia promo
Lynch is on the mic and says that he has a huge problem from the last show. Apparently, the So Fine Mafia might have issues due to the Mercenary stopping Mr. Black (nee Peanut) from whipping his son with a belt at the last show. The Mercenary comes out, Mr. Black confronts him, asking if you with us or against us. Mercenary gives a vague answer. Peanut wants a definitive answer by the end of the night.

3. Pretty Boy Floyd vs. Extreme Heat
There is no other name for Heat, and I have no idea who he is, other than a babyface. Floyd is stalling on the ref checking knee pads, etc. Boyd sends Heat out of the ring early. Heat turns on the piolet light and punches his way back into the match. Floyd knocks him back down. Floyd pins Heat with his feet on the ropes at 7:21. Heat's temperature barely got above room temperature.

Intermission.
4. Dany Only vs. Sean Nelson
Nelson frustrates Only's attempts to gain the upper hand. A test of strength goes back and forth until Only tries to kick Nelson in the gut. Nelson catches the boot and spins Only around into a headlock. Nelson is out tricking Only. Only gets one in on Nelson and targets the leg. Nelson is trying to come back on one leg, gets Only down for a near fall. Nelson has one more trick up his sleeve and pins Only at 13:41.

Only calls for the mic, and he runs down the
crowd.
5. Brad Lynch with Mercenary and Mr. Black vs.
Josh Storm
Stan is the ref for this match. Storm has a So Fine Mafia shirt under his jacket; he was a member a long time ago. Storm teases everyone to think that he is still a member. Lynch wants Storm to lay down, and he does. Lynch goes to cover, and Storm almost schoolboys him. Storm rips off the shirt and tosses it at Mr. Black. Storm showboats too much, and Lynch makes him pay. Lynch tosses Storm out of the ring and at the Mercenary's feet, who makes no move to attack Storm. Mr. Black takes every opportunity to choke Storm. The Mercenary has another chance to attack Storm but doesn't; Mr. Black is yelling at him. Mercenary is refusing to hand Lynch a chain. Lynch turns around into a flying Storm and gets pinned at 8:26.

Mr. Black and Lynch are attacking Storm; Mr.
Black orders Mercenary to hit Storm with a chair. He hits Mr. Black with it
instead and runs off Lynch. Mr. Black is busted open from the chair shot. The Mercenary
gets a round of applause from the crowd. Mercenary invites Lynch to get into
the ring with him; Lynch gives him the upper arm salute and walks off.
6. West Georgia Wrestling Heavyweight
Championship Match: Lamar Phillips vs. Frankie Valentine(c) with Tweety
Frankie goes right after Phillips, loads of bad blood here. Phillips slams Frankie's head into the turnbuckle, and they take the fight to the floor. Frankie is bleeding from the forehead from the turnbuckle shot. Phillips is taking advantage of that; his fist has blood all over it. A delayed verticle suplex by Phillips. Phillips tosses Frankie out of the ring and follows. They are fighting out in the crowd and the bleachers. Frankie is fired up and is taking it to Phillps but misses a moonsault. A massive lariat from Phillips, but he takes a long time to cover, and Frankie kicks out. Frankie flies out of the ring. Phillips wants to piledrive him on the floor; Tweety grabs the legs to prevent that.

Back in the ring, the fists are flying, they roll
out of the ring, still slinging knuckles, Ref Harmon gets knocked out. The
locker rooms empty to separate the two men. Only is wearing a towel, and Nelson
rips it off to reveal the red thong underneath. Phillips and Frankie are still
trying to get at each other. A fan almost gets squashed by a flying Frankie.
Finally, some separation occurs. Frankie's on the mic and says that this war
has just begun. He promises to make Phillips bleed. The match is officially
thrown out. They are still trying to fight on the way back to the locker rooms.
Phillips has the mic and runs down the fans. May 8th is the next show.
Final Thoughts:
1. It has been a while since I've been out this way. The Mafia finally changed up their entrance music.
2. Mr. Black got color the hard way. His brains def got scrambled with that chair shot.
3. A 16-minute match with a new guy and a young vet might have seen as being too long. It was, but Oxyn worked his ass off to keep everyone reacting to happenings, and thus the crowd was into it for every second.
4. IMO, Only/Nelson gets the match of the night. Only played the part of Wile E. Coyote getting frustrated at Nelson's thwarting of his plans.
5. The color was red??? I didn't notice.
6. Lou Taylor interests me, but not in that way. Get your mind out of the gutter.
7. Lamar Phillips gave Frankie Valentine a massive lariat, and Frankie took the sumabeyatch.
8. Even with the locker room and the security around them, a female fan still got close enough to Phillips that she almost got squashed by Frankie. Keep the fuck away from that shit, folks!
