WGW’s Blast from the Past will see Air Paris and Terry Lawler
reunite for the 25th anniversary of Team Extreme to face the Inglorious Bastard
team of Kody Jack and Dax Anthony. At the last show, it was announce that this
will be a 2/3 falls match, we will see if that is still the case tonight. In
other matches, “Hit for Hire” Bobby Moore will face off against Trey Shaw, and former
members of the So Fine Mafia in Brad Lynch and the Mercenary, Mark Hannah, will
square off, with maybe a surprise or two in the offering.
Several fans are
sporting Terry Lawler T-shirts. The official paid crowd count at Gold Dust Park was 177, Papa
Noles counted 203, I counted 3 times and kept having different numbers, must be
time for an eye exam. In any event, the numbers were about the same as the May
show.
WGW continue to tweak
the set-up; they have a covered entryway with lighting elements for the
talent’s entrance. Jamie Daniels is your ring announcer and starts the show
with a stanza of God Bless the USA. He brings out WGW Commissioner, Scott East
for an announcement. Mr. East calls out the new WGW champion Lamar Phillips to
address some things that happened at the last show. Phillips comes out and into
the ring. Phillips insults the crowd. Mr. East informs Phillips that despite
the fact that Phillips pinned Frankie Valentine, that match was not a
sanctioned WGW title match, so Phillips is not the WGW champion. Phillips runs
down everyone in the back, calling them all losers, because Valentine is a
loser. Due to the injury Valentine suffered at the hands of Phillips, Valentine
is not cleared to wrestle tonight. East has an opponent for Phillips later tonight.
“Hit for Hire” Bobby Moore vs. “The Ripper” Trey Shaw
Moore has switched up his looks a bit, almost didn’t
recognize him. Shaw has been making some waves in various promotions in the
state, but he has a tough mountain to climb in the veteran Moore. Moore wins at
8:34 with what looks like a bull hammer.
Thoughts: Pretty standard opening match. My enjoyment of the
match is ruined by these kids bouncing a ball against the wall right next to
me. I moved my set up before I went cra-cra.
Pretty Boy Floyd promo
Floyd cuts a promo about how he got screwed by the ref at
the last show in his loss against Josh Storm. He also runs down Josh Storm,
saying that Floyd put him down. This is one of the few times that I’ve heard
Floyd cut a promo.
“Star child” Larry Lazard vs. “Super Star” Jay Lucas
Star has the height and weight advantage over Lazard, but
most people have that. Lazard tries for a dive over the top rope and almost
breaks his neck after tripping on the top rope. The crowd is firmly behind
Lazard. Jay gets frustrated with Lazard’s high flying antics and takes him out
with a wicked lariat. Lazard takes a good pounding from Jay. Lazard starts a
comeback but the lights got out and Papa Marko and Taliaferro are in the ring.
Marko destroys Lazard and the match is thrown out at 9:39.
Thoughts: Apart from that serious botch, the match went
well. The crowd knew Lazard from the last show, so he had an in. Lucas had to
work harder to establish himself.
Taliaferro gets on the mic and introduces himself and his
cult, Beautiful Madness as the #9 ranked faction in the state of Georgia in a
list by some fool (my edit). He throws a shirt down on my table. Taliaferro
says that Papa Marco has issued an open challenge to any mortal in the back.
Thoughts: Damn good promo, and I’m not saying that because I
got a T-shirt out of it. The crowd knows of Papa Marco, Taliaferro turned the
heat up.
Papa Marco with Taliaferro vs. Hawk Thomas
Marco attacks Thomas before the bell, Thomas has a fan
contingent present. Thomas fires up after Marco’s offence and gets Marco in an
ankle lock. Taliaferro disrupts Thomas, and Marco plants Thomas with the Tongan
chokeslam, which is a chokeslam using the Tongan death grip.
Thoughts: Basically, a squash match, but with the
interference by Taliaferro, Thomas didn’t lose much in the fans’ eyes.
Intermission.
Doc Heyward of the So Fine Mafia with Mr. Black promo
Thoughts: The last time Heyward was on the mic; the show was
having sound issues and I didn’t hear what he had to say. This time, the sound
was much better. Not sure if a promo was actually needed in this spot, but it
served in advancing the issue between Heyward and The Mercenary.
Lamar Phillips vs. Chris Lightning
Phillips getting the heat from the crowd the old school way,
3 minutes pass before any action and that was an arm drag by Lightning. Phillips
draws things out some more, wasting time on the ring floor. Lightning follows
and Phillips lures him in and puts Lightning on the front burner. Lightning’s
comeback was rather lackluster. Phillips pins him at 12:18.
Thoughts: I wouldn’t have been opposed to the match being
closer to the 10-minute mark. This and what happens afterwards, helps to keep
the Phillips/Valentine feud going.
Phillips brings 3 chairs into the ring and he wants to plant
Lightning with the same pile driver set up that he injured Valentine with at
the last show. Valentine comes out and slams another chair on the back of
Phillips. Valentine is on the mic and cuts a promo on Phillips and wants
Phillips in a steel cage on July 10th. Phillips accepts and we have a cage
match scheduled.
Brad Lynch of the So Fine Mafia with Doc Heyward and Mr.
Black vs. The Mercenary Mark Hannah
Lynch runs down the Villa Rica crowd and Doc handles Lynch’s
intro. Hannah runs the Mafia out of the ring with a chair. Mr. Black wants Ref
AJ replaced. Doc teases getting into the ring to distract Hannah long enough
for Lynch to attack from behind. The Mafia use tried and true shenanigans to
put heat on Hannah. Hannah catches Lynch with a stunner and that brings
everyone into the ring and Ref AJ calls for the DQ at 5:12.
Thoughts: This was very much a have a match to have another
match, match. The Mercenary would be well served to have some allies for the
future.
The Mafia tape Hannah’s wrists to the bottom rope and they start
whipping him with a belt. Hannah’s teenage son comes into the ring to try and
cover up his dad, and the Mafia start whipping and beating on him as well.
Security get into the ring to try to break it up and they get attacked as well.
The Mafia leave the ring with bodies strewn all over it. Hannah’s son had to be
carried out of the ring. Lynch cuts a promo, Scott East threatens to fire Doc.
Hannah cuts a promo on Lynch and Doc, saying Doc is next.
Thoughts. An extension of the match, it was really close to
the cluster fuck line. The mention of Hannah’s son being seriously injured in a
car accident not too long ago, adds another layer on this saga.
Intermission.
2 out of 3 falls match: Inglorious Bastards (Kody Jack and
Dax Anthony) vs. Team Extreme (Terry “The Rocker” Lawler and Frankie “Air”
Paris)
The match the people came to see, Paris puts over the crowd.
Jack runs down the crowd and IGB attack before the bell. Team Extreme retaliate
and double pin IGB in 8 seconds. Team Extreme wins the first fall. The second
fall starts off in a more traditional matter, tags by both teams, with IGB
playing dirty to put the heat on Paris. Paris makes the tag and Lawler does
some damage including a superplex on Jack. Dax breaks up a pin after a spiked pile
driver. IGB pin Lawler after a double team at 9:51. Both teams have scored a
fall. The third fall starts with the action out on the floor. Ref Butterbean gets
bumped and Team Extreme scores the visual double pin 3 count but no Ref. IGB go
low blow on Paris and double team him to pick up the third fall at 3:39. IGB
win 2 falls to 1. IGB want to shake hands and the teams exchange fist bumps. After
the match, Paris puts over IGB and Team Extreme leave. IGB get on the mic and run-down
Team Extreme and the crowd to get their heat back.
Thoughts: The end of the Kody Jack/Terry Lawler feud. Not
sure where IGB can go from here for a program at WGW. Not the biggest fan of
fist bumping then a heel promo.
Final Thoughts:
1. WGW producers are juggling with a lot of knives(storylines)
in the air. Please don’t overdo it.
2. Speaking of overdoing it: the lighting, IMO, should enhance
the show, not overwhelm it.
3. Kody Jack kept yelling out “Who’s your daddy”. Dude, this is
Pride month. There might be someone willing to answer that.
4. Having Taliaferro’s Beautiful Madness in the promotion will
help give WGW a different vibe than what West Georgia fan base are used to.
5. Free T-shirt! Yay!
6. Lawler and Paris looked good in the ring but were definitely
breathing hard at the end.
