From Rob Brodhecker:
It’s been 3 months since I was last in Barnesville for a WrestleMerica show; from the reports I’ve seen, there’s been a lot of shenanigans have occurred in those months: the usual twists, turns, and betrayals that are typical for Georgia wrestling. For the show tonight, the Georgia Weasel, Ryan North has secured a CCW/WrestleMerica title match for his monster, Austin Towers against the champion, FryDaddy. Plus there will be a first time match-up between Terry Lawler and Stryk Nyn. WrestleMerica doesn’t shy away from bringing in new talent as Parker Li, KayJay Impala and Ben Bishop will make their wrestling debut. This will be the last show in Barnesville for several months as the gym will be completely remodeled. WM will be running up the road in Forsyth, Ga. In a brand new gym. Shalonce Royal is announced for that show.
Some talent advertised for the show were not here; I know of at least one that was double booked, family and illness for the others, hence the debuts.
Ben Masters is your Master of Ceremonies. Harold “Radar” Martin, David Owens, and Billy the Head of Security are the referees. I estimate the crowd at about 190. Bob Smith on video camera and commentary.
1st match: Randy Reno vs. KayJay Impala
This is Impala’s debut at WM, facing the arrogant heel Reno. A cheer off starts the match, guess who wins. Reno shows off his quickness against the taller Impala, but his cockiness works against him when Impala arm drags him. Shoulder tackles don’t work against Impala, Impala’s drop kick looks good as well. Reno works on the tree trunks of Impala, after all, thick thighs end lives. Reno’s not happy with Radar’s counting, Impala almost sneaks one in. Impala dodges a cannon ball from Reno, he tries a fireman’s carry, but the leg gives out. Reno back on the attack. Reno’s showboating and goes for a crab, Impala kicks him off. Comeback for Impala, the knee is still giving him issues, but gets a near fall. Impala goes for the carry again, knee buckles and Reno DDT’s him, very near fall. Reno can’t believe it, he’s screaming at Radar and runs around the ring. Impala catches Reno for a third time with the carry and launches Reno with a F5 into a RKO for the win at 10:31.
Good match from the guys.
2nd match: Xavier Reyes vs. Jacob Johnson with DJ.
Reyes is on my short list for most improved for the first 6 months. Johnson mostly wrestles in the middle Georgia area, but is good enough to be on more shows. Both men are of near equal size, Reyes is a shade stockier (but NOT fat!). Some action on the floor leads to Reyes planting Johnson with the Orton DDT. I would normally say that Reyes is playing up the cocky heel angle, but is it cockiness if he backs it up? Reyes is upset with Ref Owen’s counting. Owen’s gets too close to the action and gets bumped into. DJ decides this is a good time to betray Johnson and kicks him in the head. Reyes takes advantage of that and pins Johnson for the win at 5:54.
A sudden betrayal in wrestling?!?!?! Say it ain’t so!! A good match otherwise setting up Reyes and getting a feud started between DJ and Johnson.
3rd match: Terry “The Rocker” Lawler vs. Stryk Nyn
As mention in the prelude, this will be the first time that Lawler and Stryk will have a 1 on 1 match; they’s been on the same show and in rumbles but don’t even have a tag match against each other. Stryk does the flaming glove for the big pop. Lawler’s working heel and is jawing with some ringside fans. Stryk offers his hand, Lawler shakes it and promptly kicks Stryk in the gut. Classic stuff with Lawler seesawing with Stryk’s punches. Lawler’s selling is something to see with what Styk’s doing to him. Weak chops from Lawler lead Stryk to walk him around the ring, doing chops. Lawler plead in the corner and grabs the belt of Stryk, tossing him through the ropes. Lawler on offense, getting some near falls and doing some heel things. Stryk’s no selling of Lawler’s punches starts his comeback. He goes high rent and lands the flying clothesline and gets a near fall. Back stabber from Lawler. Lawler has sea legs after a head-butt. Both men are down for a tic. Lawler has an undocumented object in his fist. Stryk dodges the fist and then spears Lawler for the win at 12:48.
Stryk Nyn asks for the mic. He gets the crowd to pop and addresses the thorn in his side: Ryan North. He’s faced Cyrus and Judas, winning the first but losing the second due to North. July 9th, it will be Stryk Nyn vs Judas and threatens to serve North up for a BBQ.
Good ish between two prominent Georgia wrestling personalities. Lawler’s vocalizations were great, Stryk’s whole persona is always next level stuff.
Masters introduces Wolfgang Timbs and Timbs promptly runs down the crowd. He wants a sacrifice to his alter that is the ring, it doesn’t matter who. Good intro promo from Timbs. He has the whole snobbish “I’m better that you and you better know it” attitude down pat. If his nose was any higher in the air, the FAA would requite warning lights on it.
4th match: 6-man tag match: Body Guy University (Jameson Ryan, Parker Li, and Ben Bishop) vs. The Ugly Duckling Rob Killjoy, Eddie Honcho, and Bryce Cannon (?).
Bishop’s a big ‘un, close to 7 feet, first time seeing him in action. Li is subbing for Brandon Bullock. Buff and Fluff Connection aren’t here either. Cannon’s a total shock as Honcho’s third partner. He and Honcho used to be tag team partners a couple of years ago, I guess they will put their differences aside for tonight. Li and Killjoy will start, Li’s on my radar for Most Improved as well. Li’s quick, Killjoy’s even faster. Li tags out to Ryan, Killjoy to Honcho, Honcho takes it to Ryan. Cannon reluctantly tags in and faces up with Bishop. Cannon keeps out of the reach of Bishop until Bishop catches him with a sidewalk slam, yeouch! 7 foot power moves from Bishop keep Cannon in pain. Frequent tags for BGU, but Cannon is able to tag out to Killjoy. Killjoy is a single man double team machine on Li and Ryan. Bishop moves the rope as Killjoy was going to spring board off of it. BGU is hunting duck on Killjoy. Bishop wheelbarrows Li on top of Killjoy for a near fall. Killjoy has Li in a pinning predicament, Ryan runs ref interference. A BGU double team goes awry and Killjoy makes the hot tag to Honcho. Honcho takes it to BGU and tricks Bishop into splashing his teammates. Stinkface to Li, followed by a belly to belly for a near fall. Things switch up to the shine fest, the ending sees Li causes a distraction allowing Bishop to chokeslam Cannon from the top rope. Li pins Cannon at 15:58 Cannon’s upset and thinks he got abandoned by Honcho and Killjoy, shoves Honcho down, and leaves the ring.
I’ve been hating on 6-man matches lately; this one was actually pretty good, especially when you add in that everyone was thrown in at pretty much at the last minute. Ryan’s got a good thing going with BGU concept. I’ve usually seen Li as a baby face, he’s working on the heel aspect. Bishop moves very well for the big man, need to see more of his matches. Killjoy is always a pleasure to watch in the ring. Honcho is the walking, talking example of perverse entertainment. And last, but certainly not least, Cannon’s reluctantly holding out his hand for that first tag was great. The look of resignation on his face was priceless.
Intermission. Along with Shalonce Royal, Angelica Risk, BGU, The Heavenly Butterflies, and Stryk Nyn vs. Judas for July 9th show.
5th match: Leatherface with Ryan North vs. Mike Pain.
I hope no one gets pulled over leaving the show tonight, the fumes from the chainsaw will get them a DUI. This will NOT be a Meltzer classic by any means. North is all over the ring, running interference and getting some cheap shots in on Pain. Face is doing what he can to the hand of Pain to take away Pain’s heart punch. The chainsaw gets introduced, but North convinces Face not to use it. Face puts it down and turns around and into the heart punch of Pain. Pain wins at 8:21.
I don’t know much about Leatherface, I was only into this match because I wanted to see the heart punch, which I finally got to see. Score!
6th match: Grudge match: Alexander Koloff with masked attendant vs. JRod
This has been building for the better part of a year, not sure how the masked guy plays into this, he’s the size of a slim teenager. This is now a handicap match, I believe. Loads of stalling to start the match, Koloff’s getting into it with the fans. Masked guy starts the match, it looks like he’s had training at least. JRod’s fighting both of them off until another masked guy runs into the ring and hits JRod with a hammer. A Quick DQ win for JRod at 2:47.
The second guy unmasks and it’s Marv. JRod wants a NHB street fight at the next show. Marv wants to add a Loser Leaves WrestleMerica stip to the match as well.
I don’t know where the first masked guy disappeared to. I don’t know where the first masked guy went or how Marv got to the ring; two totally different body types. I know body types, can’t fool me there. This long-lasting feud with Koloff and JRod should be paid off at the July show.
July 2nd CCW Fan Fest in Dothan, Al.
Main Event for the WrestleMerica/CCW Championship: Austin Towers with Ryan North vs. Fry Daddy (c)
Towers doesn’t like Masters intro so he does it himself. People are dancing along to Fry’s entrance music. Towers showcases his power and height advantage early. Fry with his quickness keeps Towers off balance. Towers with a methodical beat down of Fry, a side walk slam gets a near fall. Fry has a few spurts of offense but can’t sustain it. Towers goes for the Kobiya kick but kicks himself over the top rope, Fry follows that up with a tope then a top rope drop kick to send Towers down to the mat for a near fall. Fry wants the cutline, Towers throws him off and chokeslams Fry for a very close near fall. Towers wants the Kobiya again and waits for Fry to get up, Fry ducks and hits the cut line. North puts Towers’ foot on the rope to break up the count. North and Fry face off, Ref Billy tries to break them apart. Towers has the belt and hits Fry over the head with it. Billy sees this and calls for the DQ at 12:54.
North and Towers get some more shots in on FryDaddy, with Towers choke slamming Fry and North counting the three count. Masters sets up a no DQ match at the July show between Towers and Fry Daddy, and the show ends.
Not a fan of that type of ending a title match like that, always a bit of logic stretching on that, but Wrestling! Good match from Towers and Fry, working the height vs. heart difference.
Overall, a good show from WrestleMerica when everything is factored in.
Everything is leading to their July 9th show which will be at: WrestleMerica All American Bash Saturday July 9. 7:30 pm Forsyth Ga. Monroe County Recreation Complex and Youth Center Ga Hwy 42
