Woodbury Rec Center, Woodbury, Ga.
Checking out OSW’s FB page, they’ve been running shows since
at least 2011, but I’ve only recently found about them. Talking to people at
the show, they’ve been running for several decades now, running shows about 4
times a year, post COVID. The legends listed on the card are: Mr. Hughes, Chic
Donovan (you know you want to sing it!), and Steve Armstrong. Also listed:
Terry Lawler, Rey Fury, Stunt Marshall, Daisy Kill, The Renegade Twins, J-Rod,
and more to be announce. As always with me visiting a new promotion, I might
not be familiar with some of the regular talent that performs at OSW, so I take
that into consideration.
Edit: Terry Lawler and J-Rod were not at the show.
About 180 at the 7:30 bell time, swelled up to close to 200
a couple of matches in. The refs are Vette Adams, James Stapp, and Morgan Holiday.
KT is the time keeper. Tim Dix is the ring announcer and “Boss Lady” Audrey
Roberts, is the GM
The main match that drew me to come out is Stunt Marshall
vs. Rey Fury. Also, Daisy Kill had a fantastic promo (IMO). He will be facing Kravin Summerz. Randy Reno will face off against the returning
Chris Henry. The House of Timbs will also be in action.
The show starts with the Dix and Roberts in the ring,
welcoming the crowd. The House of Timbs (Wolfgang and Kenneth Timbs with Luther
Evans) comes out interrupting them. Wolfgang goes off on the GM and the crowd:
Wolfgang wanted Terry Lawler but Lawler wasn’t there. Frankie Valentine comes
out with Tweety and AJ Black to confront Timbs. Match is made for the main
event for a Last Man Standing match with the other members of House of Timbs
barred from ringside. Valentine and Timbs leave, leaving Dix and Robert in the
ring, who are left waiting for the next confrontation.
Rose Gold with Nathaniel Vanderbilt comes out next, looks
like they are face here. This is Rose’s first appearance at OSW. Dix asks a
question, Gold responds and this brings out Gemma Jewels. Hard to tell with the
sound where I was at but Jewels was supposed to have been in an inter-gender tag
match, but the other female was injured. She now has the night off. The
Renegade Twins (Robyn and Charlette) come out next. The twins challenge Gemma and Gold for a tag match. Not sure if
challenge was accepted. They all leave.
Dix brings out Sarge the OSW champion with manager, Mr.
Alexander. Mr. Alexander says that he hired
Sarge to get a job done (having to do with Big Steel, I think, but could be
wrong) but that didn’t happen. If Sarge doesn’t get the job done, he’s fired.
Sarge is tired of Woodbury and has gotten Iron Byron to do the dirty work.
Bryon then comes out with two other wrestlers: Ace Critter and Logan Stevens. Byron
goes off on all the old guys taking the young guys’ spot. This brings out Chic
Donovan. Dix and Roberts leave the ring while Chic does a lap. Chic’s the Ga
Heavyweight Champion, it seems. Chic gets a cheap pop by mentioning Woodbury
and brings out another legend comes: Mr. Hughes. Hughes cuts a promo and brings
out a third legend: Steve Armstrong. Armstrong calls Alexander a pencil neck
for a big pop. This brings out the 4th legend, Big Steel, who gets a
thunderous applause. Looks like it will be Sarge, Bryon, Stevens, and Critter
vs. Chic Donovan, Mr. Hughes, Steve Armstrong, and Big Steel, in an 8-man match
for later in the show.
That took up 30 minutes. And now on to the show.
1st match: Randy Reno vs. Chris Henry. Announced 10-minute
time limit.
This is Reno’s debut at OSW and gets the boos almost immediately.
It’s been several years since I’ve seen Henry in a ring, looks to be in great
shape. Heel stuff from Reno, Henry makes him pay, when Reno’s feet are draped
on he second rope and Henry drops him face first on the break. Reno retreats
out of the ring, Henry follows. Henry slams Reno’s head into the apron several
times, as it is the hardest part of the ring, ya know. Reno draped with face hanging
off the apron, Henry wants a leg drop from the top rope, Reno moves at the last
second. Reno targeting the leg of Henry. Henry gets Reno in a submission, Reno
rakes the eyes to escape. More punishment on Henry’s leg. Reno crotches himself
when Henry moves out of the way. Henry tires a spring board leap over the top
rope, Reno drop kicks him in the stomach. They try pin attempts but the time
limit has expired.
A good match with the roles established early, shame
about the draw, but booking! Henry had very little ring rust, I know he’s been
working hard.
Reno’s not happy, he goes to punch Henry, Henry dodges and flat
lines Reno to make the crowd somewhat happy.
2nd match: Kravin Summerz vs. Daisy Kill.
New town, different name for Summerz. He grabs the mic and
cuts a heel promo. He wanted Big Steel but that won’t happen. In fact, everyone
he wanted, isn’t here tonight, so someone better come out. Daisy Kill answers
the call. Kill’s FB promo prompted my decision to make the drive down here. Summerz’
still new, so Kill has the experience edge. Both men are of similar height;
Summerz is skinnier. A bit of upbeat action leads to Kill pinning Summerz at 3:00
in a very, very weird situation with the ref’s count.
The ref was something else in this match: a very slow
count early in the match, then the weird three-count and then didn’t signal for
the bell. People were thinking that the match was still going on.
Summerz beats down
Kill and Truck comes out. Truck runs off Summerz and cuts a very brief promo,
again hard to hear in my spot.
3rd match: Stunt Marshal vs. Rey Fury. Winner
will get a shot at OSW Champion, Sarge.
They do a corner cheer off to start the match. Fury wins
that, of course, and they do a little one up-manship. Rey ends up tossing Stunt
out of the ring and follows that up with a tope. Fighting out on the floor, Stunt
eats a superkick. Near fall in the ring for Fury, Stunt rolls out of the ring.
Fury wants another tope, Stunt decks him. Fighting again on the floor: can’t
remember the last time when a ref follows them out, doing the 10-count. Back in
the ring, Stunt’s in control, doling out punishment to Fury. Stunt argues with the
ref, allowing Fury to re-adjust his neck and tee off on Stunt. Stunt lands a
leg lariat for a near fall. Fury lands a cross body to leave both men flat and
to start Fury’s comeback. Stunt barely gets the shoulder up. Bridging German
for a near fall for Stunt. Superplex by Stunt, near fall. Stunt going up top,
goes for a splash, Fury moves. Sling blade DDT for Fury and he goes up top;
5-Star frog splash, but Stunt gets his knees up and Fury gets pinned off of
that at 15:41. Stunt wins a title shot that he can cash in at anytime in the
next year.
A kick-ass match happened here. Didn’t seem like 15 minutes.
Stunt offers his hand after the match; Fury accepts the
handshake and they leave the ring. Stunt crows
about winning the match and getting the title shot to lead us into
intermission.
Intermission. It was announced that Tony “Tank” Fowler who
had wrestled at the last show earlier in the year but passed away recently. I
hope I got that name right.
4th match: 8-man war. The Alexander Alliance (OSW
Champion-Sarge, Iron Byron, Ace Critter, and Logan Stevens with Mr. Alexander)
vs. The Legends (Chic Donovan, Steve
Armstrong, Mr. Hughes, and Big Steel).
The Alliance takes the powder when the legends get into the
ring. Byron and Chic start off, Bryon takes a powder. Bryon wants to trip Chic
from the outside, and, well, you know…. I just hope I move just as well at 76
as Chic does. Steve and Sarge are in now, test of wrist strength, Sarge cheats.
Massive hip toss by Steve. Critter’s in now, and so is Hughes: Let’s be
friends! Stevens’s is in now, trying to pump himself up against Steel. Chic gets
the figure four on Critter, and the Alliance rush the ring to break it up, but
the other legends prevent that and Critter taps out at 10:45.
I had feared the worst about this match, but was pleased
with how things turned out, especially since I had no experience in seeing any
members of the Alliance in action before.
5th Match: Sarge (c) vs. Stunt Marshall for the OSW Championship
Chic still wants some more of the Alliance; someone must
have put some red bull in his geritol. The other legends get some shots in as
well. Then Stunt Marshal comes out and cashes in his title shot. He pins Sarge
at :27 with a flying boot then a jumping leg drop. The earlier ref did another
quick count. New OSW Champion: Stunt Marshall.
Mr. Alexander fires everyone. The House of Timbs comes out
and attacks Armstrong, I missed it but someone said he took a nasty fall. Stevens
and Sarge drive off the other legends. Critter gets demolished by Stevens. Mr.
Alexander is by the locker room door, mouthing off, Taliaferro comes out behind
Alexander and disposes him. Sarge and Stevens have a new manager now. Big Steel
tends to Alexander and they head to the face locker room.
So much shit happened there, I might have missed a few
things.
6th match: The Renegade Twins (Robyn and Charlette)
vs. Gemma Jewels and Rose Gold with Nathaniel Vanderbilt.
Weird dynamic with a heel Jewels and a face Gold teaming up.
The twins get Jewels and Gold to collide and clip the leg of Gold. The twins
working over Gold but good, but Gold delivers a double lariat to knock them
down. Hot tag to Jewels, who throws the twins around. Heel tactics form the
twins but everyone gets knocked down. Twin DDT’s by the twins for a near fall. Bilt
drags one of the twins out of the ring, she decks him and knocks Jewels of the
ring apron. In the ring, the other twin is fighting off a sunset flip, the
other twin pushes her on top of Gold, and the twins pick up the win at 7:33. Jewels
and Gold exchange some un-pleasantries and go their separate ways.
Main Event: Wolfgang Timbs vs. Frankie Valentine with Tweety
and AJ Black in a Last Man Standing match.
House of Timbs have been barred from the ring area. Timbs
wonders why Frankie needs a kid to help him, Frankie responds that he doesn’t
need any help and sends Tweety and AJ to the back. Timbs can’t get anything
going in the early moments. Timbs sends Frankie into the ring post and then
uses a chain to bust Frankie open. Timbs tosses a chair into the ring, but it’s
too close to Frankie who uses it to block the chain wrapped fist of Timbs. Timbs
is busted open now, heavy flow. Timbs goes to do something to Frankie, but AJ
comes rushing back to the ring to help his mentor. Timbs attacks AJ and locks
him up with a front head lock submission. Frankie wants to attack Timbs, but
can’t because AJ’s locked up and in the way. Timbs forces Frankie to lay down
for a 10 count. Winner at 7:53: Wolfgang Timbs.
Timbs deals some more punishment to Frankie and AJ and then struts
to the back to end the show.
My first time at this promotion and there’s a lot that happened.
I can only guess that the 30-minute promo segments at the start was to catch
everyone up on the goings on, as I believe that last show was back in April. The
building was HOT! Figuratively and literally: a lady did pass out after the
Legends match but was quickly attended to and I was told she was okay. The best
match for me was the Fury/Marshall match with the Valentine/Timbs coming second,
that was a lot of blood. I wish that there was more of Daisy Kill in Georgia,
but he’s headed south for a while. If Stunt’s turned face, I’m good with that,
specially with Taliaferro manipulating things at OSW. Wolfgang Timb’s mission
to destroy Terry Lawler has now gone state wide: it would please Timbs no end
to sacrifice Lawler on the alter of the House of Timbs.
