From Lexie Dalton:
Hey wrestling fans! Let’s talk about everything you may have missed last Sunday at RIPW’s No Tricks All Treats.
MATCH 1: Keelin Cole vs Chad Sky Walker
To open the show we were surprised by the true 1 of 1 Keelin Cole. Keelin was attempting to voice his frustrations with the current situation and look out for his next challenger when a “fan” just couldn’t stop heckling him. That fan turned out to be Chad Sky Walker. The two had exchanged words at the last show when they have both lost their Battle For Atlanta matches. Now I know y’all don’t keep up with Keelin Cole like you should, but this man has been doing deathmatches and hardcore matches, and challenging for titles. So it was no surprise when Keelin and Chad let fist fly as the match was made official. This was pure aggression as these two threw chairs, took dives, and damn near committed murder. There was a moment Sky Walker through Cole into the wall from the ring apron and I swore Keelin was going to go flying out the window. Keelin secured the win via count out, but the fight didn’t stop there. These two had to be physically torn apart and there were still insults being thrown.
Winner: Keelin Cole (and the crowd)
MATCH 2: Battle For Atlanta Tournament - DJ Bruner vs Leavitus Golphin
Now this match was advertised to be a fan vote singles match, but Towers was unable to make it so we were joined by Lamar Diggs on the mic who mentioned his opponent had a case of….mph…. It’s important to note that despite all the in-ring experience between the two of them, Diggs and Towers have never wrestled one on one. DJ / LGV would now get the opportunity and wrestle Diggs at a later time. Carrying the same energy from the first match, this one started out quick. LGV got control of DN and slowed it down with his more technical side. Ultimately, LGV secured the victory and Lamar Diggs being, well, Lamar Diggs, took the chance to end any hopes Leavitus had in the Battle for Atlanta.
Moving on in the Tournament: Lamar Diggs
Match 3: Battle for Atlanta Tournament - Jay Tyler vs Hakeem Young vs Joey Hyder
When you talk about up and coming stars with a powerhouse mentality, but versatility in the ring, these are the three names you should say. This match saw Hakeem Young quickly duck out of the ring to avoid the other competitors, but the ring smarts of Hyder and Tyler were there as they took the fight to Young on the Floor. Jay Tyler hit all the fun moves in this match from the Drive By to the Groove Line. Tyler continuously shows why he cannot be overlooked in the ring. Now after this burst of strength, Hakeem is back at it with some INSANE Swagger Bombs. I don’t think it’s controversial to say that Hakeem Young is in the top 3 bad guys in the south east. The raw aggression just radiates when he’s in the ring, and ultimately here it earned him the win. Moving on in the Tournament: Hakeem Young
Match 4: Battle For Atlanta Tournament - Kevin Kantrell vs Tyson Maddux
Prior to this match, I was unfamiliar with Kantrell. I had done some research when he was announced for the tournament, but this was the first time I’d seen him in the ring. Maddux wasted no time making sure everyone knew he was the taller competitor, trying to play mind game with Kantrell. Both guys were laying in chops, but Kantrell’s left Maddux unphased. These two then went to work showcasing their strengths. Towards the end it the match, Kantrell locked in a stretch muffler that he rolled into a pin attempt, and I thought that was wonderful wrestling. Tyson Maddox fought his way back up and hit a huge spear to claim the victory.
Moving on in the Tournament: Tyson Maddux
Match 5: Queen of RIPW Open Challenge Alexandra Quinn joins her subjects after intermission to welcome her open challenge competitor. Rose Gold blindsided Quinn and the two brawl at ring side. Rose is mad, saying she never lost her crown and Alexandra doesn’t deserve to be Queen. Quinn lives up to the Crashout Cutie moniker at the end of the brawl saying she wants a DEATHMATCH against Rose Gold.
And still, your RIPW Queen of Wrestling…Alexandra Quinn
Match 6: Battle For Atlanta Tournament - Trever Aeon vs Byron Young
When this one was announced, I knew it would be fun. Mr. Natural stood across from the Gothic Gangster in an attempt to secure himself as a staple of the southeastern scene. Aeon started off with his creepy antics that did rattle Byron Young, but not for long. The two kept the action moving into the crowd with a big boot and some heavy hands. The crowd was behind Byron the entire time, but by the time the match made it back inside the ring; Aeon was toying with his opponent kicking him in the head and telling him to wake up. Young answered the challenge showing tremendous resilience. We were gifted a beautiful diving cross body and then back into the crowd for a brief scuffle before a gorgeous frog splash got Young a near fall. Trever Aeon ultimately regained controlled following a frankensteiner and claimed the victory.
Moving on in the Tournament: Trever Aeon
Match 7: Dark Passion Assassins (Dante Darko and Neji Ichiban) (C) vs BlakJakMak and DJ Smoke
Now this match was advertised as a mystery partner for BJM, and seeing him with DJ Smoke is no surprise. You can typically find Smoke with Najasism as a member of ENT. Blak Jak really knows how to pick trust worthy tag partners. Now to give our new team credit, they had awesome chemistry and some strong double team moves. Hopefully this is the one that sticks for Blak Jak Mak and we can see another strong team added to the RIPW tag division. Somewhere we lost in ring action and ended up ringside, cashing the beautiful Stella Randy to be shoved to the floor by BJM. In returning the ring, we lost all chemistry as DJ Smoke kicked Blak Jak in the face. It was open season for the Dark Passion Assassins took advantage of their opponents misstep.
And Still Your RIPW Tag Team Champions: The Dark Passion Assassins
IT’S TIME FOR THE MAIN EVENT!
Match 8: Jay Lucas (C) vs Najasism
Sunday made 595 days of Jay Lucas carrying the RIPW banner. After a million and seven issues, Lucas stood ready for his opponent whoever it may be. Najasism attacked early, leaving Lucas on defense. This match was quick and ruthless, as most of the action on this show was. There was a moment in the early goings of this match were Jay had Naja in a backpack type hold that transitioned into a drop and a camel clutch. Beautiful wrestling from two of the best in the southeast and beyond. Jay Lucas hits a discuss lariat that lands more like a black hole slam if you were looking dead on. Naja completely turned around in a 360. This is the kind of wrestling people don’t appreciate from Lucas. He’s full of these innovative and strong styled moves that no one credits him for. Even when he lost control of the match, the champion refused to give in going for a Jay Driller that was reversed. Referee Dana takes a hit, so when we have a three count there is no one to make the call. This is the last straw for Najasism as he stomps the back of Dana’s head in. Referee Daryl Hall makes his way to the ring in order to regain composure; but quickly gets taken out by Lucas. Referee Bloodsworth makes their way to the ring to more chaos as all officials rule the match a count out. Dana says Najasism should be DQ’ed, Daryl says Jay should be. The two are back up now and begin fighting again. RIPW management gets involved and the match is ruled a no contest, but these two aren’t done. Another bout that spills out of the ring and into the crowd. Jay is helped back into the ring where he voices his frustrations with being overlooked and wants to run it back.
And Still Your RIPW Champion: Jay Lucas
This show showcased the gritty fighting spirit of RIPW and all the great talent that makes these shows so much fun. You can catch them on the first Sunday of every month at Atlanta Utility Works in East Point.
