By Rob Brodhecker:
It's been several years since my last trip to Royston to
catch an APW show. Things lined up tonight for this visit. APW has been running
weekly shows for years (I think 13? but I could be wrong) in Royston. Every
promotion has its ups and downs. I don’t know if tonight was a down night as I
don’t go to APW shows consistently, but they did face some issues ( talent illness,
cold temperatures) that I thought TPTB handled well. As always, Card is Subject
to Change.
JC Swift is the master of ceremonies. This is the go-home
show for the Black Friday show. Swift brings out the new APW Tag Champs: Stryk
Nyn and Jaden Vain: They won the titles at the last show. Stryk had gone a very
long time since he’s even sniffed a championship at APW and now he’s a double
champ as he’s also the APW Southern States champ. Stryk gives props to Vain for
the journey he’s gone through in the year he’s been in the ring. Jonathan
Feltner interrupts and comes out with his Circle of Champions (James Boulevard,
Stevie Ray Frost, and Caleb Crocker), blaming the APW GM Jeremy Vain for what
happened with his guys losing the titles and the fact Feltner will be in a
match later on in the year. Frost challenges Stryk for the APW SS title at the
Black Friday show and guarantees a win. Stryk says that “if you think you have
the boy parts to take it, you're on buttercup.” James BLVD and Caleb Crocker want Stryk and
Vain to defend the tag titles, also on Black Friday. Stryk says he’s down for
the challenge but wonders what they have done to deserve it. BLVD says they
have a rematch clause. Vain makes an offer: Tonight, Stryk will face BLVD and
Vain will face Crocker and if Crocker wins, then the tag match is on. Feltner
asks them to leave as Frost has the first match.
Felt-Felt is such an annoying prick, no wonder Jeremy
Vain wants to beat him up.
1st match: Stevie Ray Frost with Feltner vs
Justin Sane. Jynnyfyr Wynn is the ref.
Shoulder tackles knock Frost down and then out of the ring. Sane
has some inches and pounds over Frost and he uses those advantages in the
opening minutes. Sane lands the splash but Frost rolls away when Sane drops the
elbow. Sane lands a corner lariat but misses another. Frost rolls him up while
grabbing the ropes for the win at 4:39.
Frost and Feltner scramble to the back while Sane chases
them back there.
2nd match: Rob Adonis (c) vs. Revelation for the
North Georgia Championship.
My first time seeing Revolution in action, he hails from
South Carolina, I believe. There is a mandatory 15-minute time limit on all NGC
matches but it seems some technical difficulties are going on with the clock
not showing up on the big screen. Adonis says that per APW rules there must be
a clock, he offers to go to the back to see what’s going on. And then offers
Rev an opponent to keep Rev warmed up while he checks. A masked cloaked guy
comes out and we have a match.
Match 2a: Revelation vs. Red Ninja.
Middle of the match, a video plays showing Adonis and the
tech person fighting with equipment. As Rev was watching this, Ninja tried to
do a schoolboy, Rev fights it out and pins Ninja at 3:21.
Rev is begging Adonis to come back out and Adonis does. Adonis
says that with one problem solved another has arisen and claims that with his
high fiber and increased water intake, he’s going to need to take care of some
personal business and gives Rev another person to face
Match 2b: Rev vs Eddy Morphy.
Another masked guy for Rev and another win at 32 seconds.
Adonis comes out for the third time, and this time it looks
like we have that match. Adonis must have fallen under the “One exit, no
waiting” mode of BM’s. Adonis now says that it’s now time for intermission and
says that Rev will still get his match.
If looks could kill, Adonis would look like a human pin
cushion right now. EVERYONE was pissed at him: Rev, Wynns, Swift, the crowd, the
concession lady, everyone! It was such great shit.
Intermission.
3rd match: James BLVD with Feltner vs. Stryk Nyn.
A flaming glove on a
cold night = a warmer me. TOS to start, Stryk wins and stomps the hands of BLVD
then Feltner. BLVD taking all sorts of punishments and mosh pits galore. BV
moves away from a rushing Stryk and Stryk gets thrown out of the ring and into
the barricade. Stryk takes the abuse with Feltner joining in when BLVD has Ref
Wynns distracted. Stryk plants BLVD with a spinebuster for some separation. Both
men throwing haymakers, Stryk gets the better of that. Stryk goes up and lands
the top rope lariat and follows it up with a jumping leg drop for a near fall. Stryk
sets up for a rush. BLVD sees it, cowers in the corner then hotshots Stryk when
Stryk rushes in but didn’t get all of it. Stryk slams BLVD down and then makes
BLVD submit at 11:02.
4th match: Rob Adonis (c) vs. Revolution for the
APW North Georgia Championship.
We finally get Adonis defending his cummerbund. The clock is
fixed but now Adonis says he doesn’t trust anyone with a mask and since Ref Wynns
has a mask on, he’s out the door. Wynns’ makes the sacrifice and takes off her
mask and the match starts. The 15-minute clock had already started and 1:30 had
already run off when they do hook up. Chicken shit heel stuff from Adonis,
leaving the Rev knocked for a loop. Rev tries for a schoolboy, but Wynns was
out of position. Ab stretch by Adonis gets reversed, but Rev can’t capitalize. Spinebuster
by Adonis, he’s just taking his time and picking Rev apart.
The claw by Adonis,
when was the last time I saw that?!?! Sleeper by Adonis, Rev teases the 3rd
arm drop and fights back with a jaw jack. Rev with a fisherman’s suplex for a
near fall. Adonis is stalling saying that he’s lost a contact and starts to
look for it. He’s looking for it outside of the ring, Wynn starts the 10-count,
and Adonis is counted out at 13:10, with about 30 seconds left on the 15-minute
clock.
Rev wins the match
but is pissed off about it. This is the second week in a row that some
shenanigans have happened. Rev says he’s still the #1 contender and will challenge
Adonis again at the Black Friday show. Adonis comes back out and says the
contact went into his singlet and agrees to the match for next week.
Adonis is such a happy, positive, chicken shit that you
want to see an ACME anvil fall out of the sky and land on his head. As it
should be.
Main Event: Caleb Crocker with Feltner vs. Jaden Vain. If
Crocker wins, he and BLVD will get a shot at the tag titles at the next show.
Crocker is having some words with the ringside faithful
after the bell rung. Also, Feltner hates everyone and they smell like tuna. Frost
disrespects Vain, and Vain arm drags him a couple of times. A bit of back and
forth and Frost plants Vain with the DVD backbreaker. Frost tosses Vain out of
the ring and distracts Wynn while Feltner gets a cheap shot in. Frost feeds
Vain to the barricade. Vain tries to power up but keeps getting cut off.
Crocker stomps away at the chest of Vain. Vain kicks out of a falcon's arrow,
Crocker can't believe it. Monkey flip by Crocker but he starts yakking at the
fans. Crocker’s in the face of Wynn after a near fall. Vain is set up top, but
he punches Crocker off and lands a cross body for a near fall. Vain eats a
springboard back elbow for a near fall. A spinebuster out of nowhere by Vain gives
him some life. Some punches and knees by Vain and Vain locked in the ankle
lock. Feltner's on the apron, distracting Wynn, BLVD comes out and cheap shots
Vain, Stryk, and Frost run out next and they and BLVD fight to the back. With
Wynn still distracted, Crocker kicks Vain low and then pedigrees him for the
win at 12:55.
Crocker wants the crowd to tell him how wonderful he is.
Final Thoughts:
Kudos to Jynnyfyr Wynn for being the iron lady and refereeing
all the matches, plus dealing with Adonis.
I don’t know if that’s the last time we’ll see Wynn’s
mask, but if so, RIP.
Ain’t no one cheering the heels here tonight. Let the bad
guys be bad.
Adonis has joined the list of veterans who were away for
a while but have come back and are having fun.
Again, I thought TPTB did a good job of handling things
tonight.
