From Dust E. Finnish:
WrestleMerica Liberty Championship Champion Luka Daniels vs Parker Li
The show starts by showcasing two of the more exciting young talents on the roster. Luka has thrived at WrestleMerica over the last few months and has really come into his own. The action starts fast and furious before Luka cuts off Parker sending him face first into the apron. Rolling fireman’s carry followed up by a Luka senton. The 10 minute time limit stipulation insures all of these matches are high paced. Parker fights out of a chin lock but is caught with a jumping Russian leg sweep. Luka misses a flying nothing and Parker is off to the races hitting a succession of clotheslines before a pele kick and a codebreaker for a 2 count. Parker’s cutter is reversed into a blue thunder bomb but Luka still can’t put him away. Luka picks him for another fireman’s but Parker slides down for a neck breaker. Parker slips on the ropes and Luka capitalizes with a Death Valley driver and retains the title.
Warden vs Kayjay Impala
This is the 3rd match up between the two big men so far at WrestleMerica this year. They start off trading haymakers before the action eventually spills outside. This feels a lot like most of their prior match ups and a lot of Warden’s matches at WrestleMerica have relied on extracurricular activities outside the ring which is only exciting as a novelty eventually it’s just the norm. The two trade back suplexes on the apron before returning to the ring. Kayjay’s hip attack is avoided by Warden going back outside. Warden crotches him on the ring post and takes over. Warden begins tossing Kayjay out the ring. This match never gets into gear because of too many stop starts and an incoherent story that leaves a sense of malaise. Kayjay wins with a splash you have to see to believe.
Damage Inc (Paul Wolfe & Caleb Scott) vs Mike Pain and Eddie Honcho
Definitely didn’t have perennial champ Pain and consistent comedy act Eddie Honcho as a potential tag team but honestly in a budding tag scene such as WrestleMerica anyone can become the new standard. DI mock Eddie in the early going. The mocking ends when Pain tags in and lays out both men with a number of clotheslines. Honcho is too big to be scoop slammed and he starts dishing them out to DI before hitting a double hip attack and noggin knocker. DI takes over on Eddie. They beat up on big Eddie for an age. Eddie doesn’t sell much so it’s hard to get behind him. Pain comes in house of fire and nails Paul with a big powerslam. DI with a really good looking double chokeslam on Honcho that should’ve been the finish. Pain stops Paul from nailing Eddie with a belt but he takes a title shot behind the refs back anyways Damage Inc win.
Marvelous Michael Stevens vs Aleskander Koloff Halloween street fight
The two men start brawling outside with all types of weapons. Stevens rolls koloff into the ring and the beating continues before he gets a piece of Home Depot’s finest lumber and places it in the corner. Koloff with an ankle lock before Luka nails him with the Liberty title. Koloff kicks out and Luka accidentally hits his dad. Jacob Johnson runs in and powerslams Luka. leaving Stevens all alone before he flies through the pine set up in the corner. A ladder is introduced and Koloff takes a beating with the trash can on his head. Spinebuster onto a ladder. Stevens handcuffs Koloff but is interrupted by all of his former tag partners. The story of this rivalry has been expertly laid out from beginning to end with the exception of the stupid Mr. America plotline. The fact that Steven’s past is what crushed his future was a chefs kiss. Frat Daddy Bryce Cannon vs Fry Daddy A lot of matches have spent an eon outside of the ring so far on this show. Cannon hits a shoulder tackle which leads to an awkward spot where Fry runs it again but all is cleared up by the time Fry nails a suicide dive to the outside. Back suplex on the apron leading to a second rope cross body by Fry. A train of chops by Fry before a drop kick gets a 2 count. O’Connor roll into a disaster kick by Bryce. More heat by Bryce outside. Frye hits a nice slingshot body press for a 2. Flair flip in the corner before Fry runs his comeback the subsequent ref bump was a jumbled mess but it led to a shocking Bryce Cannon win over the 2022 MVP which no one saw coming. Two really talented guys that just never seemed to be on the right timing. Side note for me personally the Hogan kicking out at 3.5 is so stupid and it takes away the moment from the victor.
Super Alder Bros (Drew Adler & Ryan North) vs JBE (Tetchi Makuji & Dr. Brock)
Ryan North dressed as Inspector Gadget with Drew as Mermaid Man is definitely a sight I encourage everyone to see. It’s a good mix of both comedy and serious stakes. Tetchi’s pumpkin face paint also looks awesome especially as he is stalking Ryan. Dr. Brock wearing Xavier’s singlet is a nice touch. From a simplicity standpoint this is the best told in match story on the night. Only issue is for a match that is 50% manager it went relatively long. Ryan escapes a Tetchi bear hug yes you read that right and crawls between his legs for the hot tag to Drew. Spot of the night has to go to Ryan monkey flipping Drew into Tetchi it looked very clean and no one expected that. Dr. Brock low blow on Drew. Heels want to use their heel to end the match. Ryan returns the low blow to Tetchi and Brock for some reason nails Tetchi with the shoe. Also hats off to Dr. Brock wrestling the whole match with glasses on. North wins it with a figure 2 leg lock on Dr. Brock.
WrestleMerica Heavyweight Championship: Xavier Reyes vs Dominic Stuckey
There’s a bit of a size difference but both men showcase their amateur backgrounds. Dom’s quickness eventually gets the best of Xavier ending with a bulldog then running knee. Xavier is simply too smart to stay down for long. He reverses a fireman’s into a big back suplex. He starts to work over Dom’s back. Dominic hits a sunset flip and then turns it into a figure 4 hard to explain but cool to watch. Xavier reverse the pressure and turns his attention to Dom’s left ankle. Xavier hits an exceptionally nasty chop block that would’ve resulted in a flag and 15 yards if it happened on a Sunday afternoon. Xavier with two amigos before Dom rolls up the third. The Eddie tribute act continues with Dom nailing a frog splash for 2. I actually hate that while on offense Dom doesn’t sell what had been worked on he picked up 260 with a bad ankle there’s strength then there’s stupidity. Huge Olympic slam from the top rope by Xavier but he can’t keep Dom down. An ankle lock is reversed for Dom’s comeback before nailing a standing sliced bread swanton from the top but it knocks down the referee unintentionally. Xavier missed a belt shot and eats a super kick before a butterfly cutter. Big kick out at two and you can actually see the people in the bleachers stand in frustration at Xavier’s resilience. Low blow before a clothesline from hell by Xavier. Not as good as his defense against Fry but definitely proved a point that he rules the roost defeating a top contender as clean as a heel can.
Dusty takeaways
1. too much time on the outside with minimal action or pay off. Only the main event stayed in the squared circle and continued to wrestle. Obviously the hardcore match gets a pass but seriously every match at one point or another should’ve gotten counted out.
2. WrestleMerica lacks a defined hierarchy which means anyone can win at any time and should be motivating for guys to grab that top spot.
3. Unfortunately the only real storyline running has been Stevens vs Koloff now they only have Dominic’s championship chase which in itself isn’t a story with enough long term capabilities to run an entire show.
4. A lot of entertainment on this show the manager match was my type of comedy and the street fight wasn’t just I hit you and you hit me but had legitimate bits of story.
5. I enjoy that the crowd loves their baby faces and hates their heels no guess wok here either you’re over it you’re not at WrestleMerica.
6. Xavier has really carved out a nice JBL in 2004 style of title reign. He’s gotten the job done with JBE he’s done it by himself. He’s a great mix of cowardly and calculating and his defenses haven’t been formulaic, overbooked, or excessive.
