Got sent the link to SFCW's 5/18 show, the last show before their annual, big anniversary show: Shindig.
Obviously, it's been ages since I've seen a SFCW show, live or on video, I've been distracted this past year, sue me. Also, mostly impressions for this report as I'm typing while watching.
Rosario Grillo joins Adam Vance for a hard camera preview of the show. Grillo seems excited about the Women's Championship match. They throw it back to SFCW ring announcer: Rick Richards.
First match: Wil Kaution, Jaxon Carter, and Tha Wall Tyler Stephens vs. Aaron Dallas, The Kenway, and SFCW Classics Champion Billy Buck in a 6-man tag match.
Several stories being thread through the action, Go and re-read Larry's reviews for the deets. It's Sunday morning and I'm just now waking up, plus it's my birthday.
Action all over the place, standard for these matches, but very well executed. The A-man taking the majority of the punishment, but gets Tha Wall in a sleeper, but he gets flipped ass over tea cup, but makes the hot tag to Buck.
Grillo with a nice Marx brother reference, very nice.
Bodies are flying everywhere; Buck plants Kaution with a DDT for a 2-count. Buck sets up for the Buck shot, but Carter sacrifices himself so Kaution can land the Kaution Kutter on Buck for the win.
Kaution stands tall with the Classics belt, gets knocked out by Kenway, who poses with it, then Carter yamjams Kenway in his Kenways, and he poses. Dallas knocks out Carter and he poses, then Stephens does it to Dallas and poses. This brings out spokesmodel John "The Body" Johnson, who spokesmodels a pronouncement from SFCW's matchmaker Bill Berhens. All six men will participate in a ladder match for the SFCW Classics Title at Shindig on June 15th.
David Manders Promo: A referee is in the ring, that's never a good sign.
Manders offers condolences to the family of a long time SFCW supporter and fan.
Manders says that Sal Rinauro won't be here tonight for the 8-man tag match due to a knee injury, so Manders is going to have find a partner for tonight. Nick Halen saunters out, looking to create some shenanigans. Words are exchanged and Manders promises to take out a member of the Approved tonight.
Second match: 2 on 1 Handicap match: Nick Quick and "Flamethrower" Tony Taylor vs. Tetchi Makuji with Dr. Brock and Triston Michaels.
Squash match written all over this one as soon as I saw the duo. I am also expecting shenanigans as well, because I have read the past SFCW show reports from Larry.
Tetchi is totally playing with his food here. Dual throat grips (I ain't even gonna try to spell that word out) by Tetchi, leads to the ref calling for the bell.
Both men get tossed out and Dr. Brock has a microphone and asks for Jacob Ashworth to come out to the ring for a word. Jacob comes out and into the ring, Brock says that there will be no fighting. Brock and Jacob were SFCW originals and Brock has a request: one last match between Tetchi and Jacob and there must be a winner. Jacob accepts. Alright, def interested in this.
Third match: Hootchie Daddy Najasism vs. ERC.
A long-standing feud from Platinum Championship wrestling makes it way further east from Conyers. Fists and feet are flying; Naja targets the leg of ERC. Marcus Cross's music plays as Naja has ERC in a sharp shooter, distracting Naja, and allowing ERC to small package Naja for the win.
Xavier Reyes promo: He comes out to the ring with a neck brace on, being injured a few months back. Cleared or not, he had an itch to be in the ring. He starts to say something else but gets interrupted by Hunter James and Michaels, almost begging Reyes to say he's quitting. James and Michaels try to sic Tetchi on Reyes, but Tetchi is reluctant and he and Dr. Brock leave. James gets in the ring and in Reyes' face. Reyes makes the announcement: He's cleared and rips off the brace and goes after James and they start fighting and Reyes turns James ass over cheap champagne bottle with a lariat, and James and Michaels have to retreat.
Fourth match: Chip Day vs. CT Keys.
Banger. Watch it. Keys wins.
Keys Promo: Best promo I've heard from him.
JJ in the ring and announcing the line up for Shindig. Watch and read social media for the deetz.
SFCW Women's Championship match: Kat Spencer with Grillo vs. Crystal Rose (c).
Grillo makes JJ annouce that Spencer is the first lady of SFCW, had to snicker at Grillo for doing that. Spencer beating up Rose fairly well and has a submission locked in after Grillo interfers. Sounds like the bell rang, and Spencer releases the hold, thinking she's won. I thought time limit but the ref continues the match. Spencer turns around and Rose cross bodies her from the top rope for the win.
Turns out it was Todd Sexton, who was hiding under the table, who rang the bell. Sexton attacks Grillo, but Spencer puts her two cents in and Grillo curb stomps Sexton in the ring. Why? Re-read the other reports.
Main Event: 8-Man tag match: The Approved (Nick Halen, Rob Adonis, Adrian Hawkins, and Bobby Moore) vs. Sunny Daze, Jacob Ashworth, and David Manders.
Xavier Reyes will be the 4th man on the SFCW's team. Manders is possibly the best fighting owner/promoter (who isn't a wrestler) in my recent Georgia memory; the last one that stands out to would have been Shane Noles (who became a wrestler but wasn't one at first).
Loads of body parts moving, just sitting back and watching it. Will write about the ending. I will say that with Reyes taking the most heat was the best move, gets the rust knocked off.
Tetchi, James, and Michaels make an appearance and the take out Reyes and Ashworth, causing Ashworth to get pinned. Approved beat down on team SFCW; Halen in Manders' face with a mic, calling a stupid old man. Halen challenges Manders to a wrestling match at Shindig and super kicks him. Still talking trash, Halen says that if Manders is nice enough, Halen will let him live.
He leaves, but Hawkins isn't quick enough and gets hit in the back by a chair wielding Manders. Daze and Ashworth block the Approved while Manders is whipping Hawkins with the chair. Manders says he's not a wreslter, but a fighter, so at Shindig it will be an anything goes match to end the show.
Good shit.
