From Larry Goodman:
Throughout the many years of Josh Wheeler and Murder One's partnership, presenting a compelling in-ring product has been their hallmark. That held true with their latest offering, Da Goodness.
The Kenway made two successful defenses of the GWC Championship against Owen Knight and Trever Aeon. Both were high quality matches. Kenway will now face six competitors in a Lucky 7 match when AWE returns to Meta Multimedia on October 27.
The show closed with Aeon being carried out of the building in a body bag by the diabolical Taliaferro's henchmen.
The show also featured one of the best promos of the year by Rob Weathers and 3MP turning against one of his prized acquisitions.
Da Goodness was AWE's second show at Meta Multimedia, which is the 7th venue AWE/SSP has run in 2024. It's a large warehouse space off of Fulton Industrial Boulevard. I like the old style lighting with a light source directly above the ring. Attendance was in the neighborhood of 50.
The show streamed live on Facebook with Rob Weathers and Carmen Michael providing an abundance of entertainment on commentary. Wheeler was the ring announcer and conducted the ringside interviews.
(1) The Kenway defeated Owen Knight to retain the Georgia Wrestling Crown Championship in 8:52. Knight had Kenway pinned with Clock Out but Kenway got a foot on ropes. Kenway rolled Knight up using the tights for extra leverage.
Post-match: Knight said Kenway now had a target on his back. Their war was far from over. Kenway would experience his wrath.
Brandon Whatley called Taliaferro out for a conversation. Taliaferro's lack of communication did not sit well with Whatley and he wanted to know what was up. Taliaferro said he was making no excuses for his failure to communicate. He had been preoccupied with what Trever Aeon had done to him. Sounded like an excuse to me. Taliaferro said Hakeem Young wasn't there and he needed Whatley. It was imperative that Aeon did not become the GWC Champion tonight.
(2) Wild Boys (Chris Del Ray & Matthew Mercer) upset All-Antarctic Champion Eric Walker & Big Bad Diggs in 8:30. Del Ray dropkicked Diggs from behind, sending him chest first into the turnbuckles and rolled him up on the rebound.
Rob Weathers promo. Weathers was on fire.
Why did he cost the Carnies their championship opportunity and align with the Hierarchy? Answer: Like the Hierachy, he had nothing left to prove to anyone. Weathers put Murder One, Joe Black, Chip Day and The Kenway over individually. This was his 100th show of the year. He and Carmen Michael had gotten their names out there. He was the most booked commentator in Georgia and no longer felt the need to leave Atlanta to prove he was the best in the South. Weathers also said he promoters were full of shit and he didn't trust them including Wheeler who still owed him money for the last two shows.
(3) "The Heartbreak Carnie" Hunter Drake defeated Caleb Teninty to qualify for the Lucky 7 match (7:45). Drake did a lot stalling and got a lot of heat. Teninty got a close near fall with a brainbuster. Drake played possum and pinned Teninty with a 450.
Drake said he was the king of Atlanta and bad for your health.
(4) Dark City Violence Connection (Murder One & Joe Black) defeated Donald Jaykes Worldwide Ministries (Alexander Lev & Austin Thorne with Pastor Donald Jaykes) to retain the AWE Tag Team Championship in 9:44. Jaykes appropriated Lev's "I am faithful" catch phrase and said the fans were blessed to witness the glorification of AWE and the claiming of the tag team championship from the evil sinners.
While Thorne distracted the ref, Jaykes tried to use the tambourine on DCVC and clobbered Lev by mistake. Black pinned Lev after an assisted senton.
(5) "The Man in Plaid" Jackie Thad defeated KC Rocker in 10:06 to qualify for the Lucky 7 match. Thad reversed Rocker's triangle choke and pinned his shoulders to the mat.
(6) Dee Munny defeated Dylan Lesynd (with 3MP & videographer Quinn) in a Dee Munny rules match (7:49). Munny paid Wheeler to "sponsor" the match and make the rules, which essentially made it a no rules hardcore match. Lesynd had Munny pinned but 3MP pulled the ref out of the ring to prevent a three count. The debuting "Big Trouble" Ben Bishop hit the ring. He annihilated Lesynd and piled Munny on top of him.
Wheeler attempted to get an explanation from 3MP and got the silent treatment.
(7) The Kenway defeated Trever Aeon to retain the GWC Championship in 15:35. Aeon hit the Kiss Kiss Bang Bang suplex and was setting up for the kill. Taliaferro ran to ringside and grabbed Aeon's leg to distract him. Kenway then used a brainbuster to retain.
Hakeem Young and Whatley assaulted Aeon after the match. They zipped Aeon up inside a body bag and carried him out of the building to end the show.
NOTES: AWE returns to Meta Multimedia on October 27...Exactly 10 years ago from the date of this show, Jimmy Rave wrestled Drew Galloway (McIntyre) at an AWE show in Canton...Darryl Hall and "New Brian" Waites were the referees...Trey Shaw, Ashton Starr and Cuatro Cabezas were among the backstage visitors...This was Carmen Michael's 135th show of the year on his way to 160.
