Peterson and Mowery |
If your bent is towards deathmatch wrestling with a cinematic twist, Blood and Honey 4 is must viewing. The main event: the ultraviolent rubber match -- "The Killbilly" Nathan Mowery vs. Spectre -- two deathmatch artists who both just so happen to be filmmakers. Mowery's influences as a filmmaker: Buster Keaton, Rob Zombie and Spike Jonze. The camera work (under the direction Mehkala Peterson) was out of this world. Nathan and Mehkala will soon be married.
If you like, check out Blood & Honey 5.
The video opened with Spectre's warped origin story inspired by John Carpenter's Into the Mouth of Madness and the fictional town of Hobb's End, New Hampshire.
It was creative madness in the extreme and slasher film heaven. The blood looked like chocolate syrup. As a glimpse into the artist's mind, it was not a place I would want to stick around a long time. Cut to Spectre watching the conclusion of the video. "Expect me, Nathan Mowery". I was hooked.
The ominous introduction cut to our host Nadia, who did preview segments for each of the matches. Her polished presentation was incongruous with the grit and grunge that permeated everything else about this video.
Let me say how great it was to listen to Carmen Michaels and Rob Weathers on commentary. They struck a balance between gallows humor and getting across the peril of the performances. Don Miguel was our ring announcer. Be careful not to get blood on that suit.
A Luke Hateful video was a quick fuck you to the world.
(1) Traditional Rules Match: Luke Hateful defeated Jazzy Yang via DQ in 5:36. They did a regular pro wrestling match to elicit hatefulness from the crowd. Hateful was about to blast Yang with a light tube bundle but Yang's boyfriend, Terry Yaki snatched the bundle from Hateful and busted the tubes across his back for the DQ.
Match was something different to do on a death match show, besides which Jazzy projects purity. I really did not want to see her bleed.
(2) Boards of Death: Hardcore Hillbilly squashed Brian White in 5:02. Board #1 was covered with vinyl records and CDs, which Hillbilly creatively delivered to White's back Weathers said as a collector of vinyl, it was painful for him but not as much as for White, who had CD shards sticking out of his flesh. Hillbilly used a tack bat to get White's blood flowing. White took a uranage onto a gusset plate/light tube board. White's back looked hideous. Hillbilly did a senton off the apron to put White through the remaining board bridged across two chairs at ringside and pinned him with one foot. White was an epic, disgusting mess.
For sick minds only There's something weirdly appealing about the sheer unadulterated crudeness of the Hardcore Hillbilly. White reveled in the horror.
Next was fan cam style highlight footage of the match.
Video "tributes" to Matt Griffin from Masha Slamovich, Mance Warner and Vince Russo. There was a theme here. They hated him and he was gonna get his ass kicked.
Highlight: Slamovich telling Griffin how bad he sucked in Russian.
(3) "The Deathmatch God" Matt Griffin defeated Payton Blair in 12:11. The storyline is Griffin denounced deatmatch wrestling is now billing himself as a deathmatch God. He entered to George Michaels' and a "fuck you Matt" chant. They did the deal with the bamboo skewers. Payton stapled Lincolns into Griffin's forehead. The finish was a crossed arms Iconclasm through a light tube bundle with the word "Kingpin" scawled on it. Slight problem, the tubes didn't bust. Griffin put a table on top of Payton and smashed it with the tube bundle.
Jesus, I don't even like M
(4) Lil Sicko defeated Satu Jinn and Lizzy Blair to retain the RPW Ruthless Rustbelt Championship in 18:11. The deathmatch goblin inserted herself into the match. "I'm in bitches". Lizzy laid out while the dudes did traditional pro wrestling. and took straight glass to ass. Sicko of course is unquestionably certifiable.

Georgia Grundle Run on September 13 |
Lizzy bled Jinn with gusset plates. Jinn carved up Lizzy and Sicko's heads. Lizzy brought one of my top three all-time favorite deathmatch weapon into play -- the waterjug on a pole. The three of them sat down at ringside and traded ridiculously stiff shots. Sicko took the worst of it but brought the house down with a springboard plancha and everyone was down on the dirt. Running hip attack and folding press by Jin.
The finish was a tower of doom superplex through a light tube bundle bridged across two chairs. Jinn took the superplex bump through the tubes and Sicko pinned Lizzy.
Controlled psychosis. Jinn is a master of his craft, a deathmatch ring generaI. I really wanted to see him in a singles match but it all worked out for the better. Sicko has beaucoup athletic ability to go with his warped psyche. The Blair Sisters have found their niche. Lizzy was great and gave them an out for Sicko to retain without pinning Jin.
Nathan Mowery and Bombshell cut a tremendous promo to set the stage for what the viewers were about to see:
Mowery won their first encounter at a bar in Gainesville (SVW January 2023). It was Spectre's first time being cut open with glass and Bombshell's debut. Spectre won the rematch at WWA4 a few months later. But they never had that ultraviolent tiebreaker. Fast forward to the fall of 2024. Mowery invited Spectre to be a part of the Blood & Honey series. Spectre lost two matches but Mowery saw something in Spectre's "anger, angst and aggression". Saw that he was racking up victories elsewhere in Georgia. Then Spectre attacked Mowery at the skate park show, left him laying and made it personal. But it wasn't just about him. Spectre had put Bombshell through a table. Bombshell hadn't forgotten and was coming for blood. "Don't be late for our playdate, Spec. No mercy."
Cut to a clip of Matt Griffin double talking a hot black woman to sell merch and Don Miguel getting the most out of telling Griffin to shut the fuck up.
(5) Nathan Mowery (with Bombshell) defeated Spine Shattering Spectre in 21:44. Spec pulled a knife out his tights and got stabby. He eyeballed Bombshell. Mowery was already leaking copious amounts of blood. Exploded light tubes on Spectre's head. Spec dropkicked a light tube bundle into Mowery. Bombshell got involved and ended up on the wrong end of Screamorama. Ropes walk light tube to the head by Spectre. Mike Jackson eat your heart out. Spectre shot gunned dropkicked Mowery through a star of glass tubes. A glass tube mousetrap spot did not work out to maximum effect. Shot of Spectre's back color was awesome.
The weedwhacker spot. Spectre zi-tied Mowery to the ropes and fired up the weedwhacker. Bombshell no sold a light tube shot to the head and choke slammed Spectre into the glass.
Sidebar: When I caught up with Spectre at RIPW, he said the glass had worked its way out his back. Visible damage from the weedwhacker remained two weeks later.
Bombshell stapled Spectre's forehead. Bombshell's mask came of and she bit Spectre's neck. Bombshell held Spectre so Mowery could poke him in the gut with the weedwhacker. Mowery got him good the second time.
Spectre disconnected the extension cord to the weedwhacker and hooked it onto box fan and removed the face plate. Spectre tried to give Mowery a Razor's Edge into the fan. Mowery slipped away. They smashed each other with firecracker bats and both men took flat back bumps onto to glass tubes in perfect synchrony. Mowery lit Spectre's crotch on fire with a flaming knee. For the finish, Bombshell gave Spectre a destroyer and Mowery finished him off with an full nelson flatliner into the box fan.
As insane and inhuman as any match in the Blood & Honey series, a peak moment for the promotion. Their previous matches had set a high bar and they cleared it with ease. Bombshell brought it and got her revenge on Spectre. Mowery's deathmatch legend grows.
