From Larry Goodman:
DSW stepped it up for the their final New Realm show before October Rust, the company's Wrestlemania back at New Realm Brewing on October 26.
The patio at New Realm was packed as it always is. For DSW, this was a longer than usual show -- seven matches in 2.5 hours with no intermission and they were starting to run out of daylight.
Several matches were set up for October Rust. Two were officially announced: a fatal four way for the DSW Championship and a Mexican Death Match.
Mixed in with the shenanigans and tomfoolery, there were two really good wrestling matches: Alex Kane vs. Jay Alpha Miller and the DSW title match: Najasism defending against Apollo Prince.
(1) Stunt Marshall & DJ Smoke defeated Hunter James & Nathaniel Vanderbilt to retain the DSW Tag Team Championship in 11:55. Marshall smacked the post with his Power Slap left hand. Hunter went to work on Stunt's hand but the real heat was put on Smoke. James gave Stunt his version of the power slap. Stunt was unfazed and brainbusted James. A miscue between bungling heels led to the finish. Marshall powerslapped Vanderbilt and Smoke pinned him with a frog splash.
Good opener. Stunt's powerslap gimmick was over. Marshall and Smoke are an excellent choice for the first DSW Tag Team Champions since 2008.
(2) Austin Towers defeated Cosmo Martinez in 6:55. Towers expressed his frustration with DSW management and said he was going to expose them if they didn't get their act together. The crowd was giving Towers hell. Towers was a disrespectful seven foot POS with a chip on his shoulder, hurling insults at everyone in sight.
Towers on the mic got the most pure heat of the entire show.
Out came Martinez to tell Towers to shut his trap and we had ourselves a match. Towers was cruel and heartless as he dissected Cosmo's back. Martinez rallied with a satellite DDT and two frog splashes. Luka Daniels appeared at ringside to crotched Martinez on the post. Towers then murdered Martinez with a flying boot to pick up the win.
Match was so David and Goliath it was ridiculous and no stone Cosmo could hurl was going to fell Towers.
(3) Former NWA National Champion Mims defeated Lamar Diggs in 8:54. Mims tried to use his speed and agility advantage to evade the bad man from Eufaula. Diggs caught up to Mims and was subjected to his power. After absorbing everything Diggs could throw at him, Mims countered the monster's choke slam with a DDT. Mims fired up and pinned Diggs with the Big Strong Slam.
They sold big for each other. Mims gave Diggs so much offense he had to be going over. The NWA didn't mean anything to the casual fans that attend New Realm shows.
DSW Women's Champion Gemma Jewels is awfully full of herself these days. Said she had been champion for three months and overcome all challengers with flying colors, INCLUDING Audrey Allen whose hand she had broken a glass on last Sunday at the Monday Night Brewing show. Allen hit the ring with a spear for Gemma. They brawled. Wrestlers ran in from the back to pull them apart.
They made the people want to see the match. Jewels has a compelling presence tailor-made for the first DSW Women's Champion since 1987. Allen seems game for anything.
(4) Alex Kane defeated Jay Alpha Miller in 8:40. Kane was loose as a goose. Miller is out of his mind. Kane got rolling with a suplex trifecta and a jumping splash for a two count. MIller turned the momentum with a rake of the eyes and a Zig Zag. Kane broke out a choke suplex. Miller went to his pet backstabber to setup a spinning tiger facebuster. Kane fought off the Million Dollar Dream and used an Olympic Slam to set up an X Plex for the pin.
Nice establishing of characters and build to a finish. One of the things I love about watching an Alex Kane match is his offense is continually evolving. His release suplex wowed 'em.
(5) Sobriety vs. the New Realm Championship: Ryan Rembrandt defeated Matt Sells via DQ to retain the title in 7:13. Michael Longino announced the stipulation could admire his physique.
Sells was fighting for his drinking life. Rembrandt got so frustrated, he grabbed a beer and poured it into Sells mouth. Fueled by anger and/or alcohol, Sells pinned Rembrandt with a palm strike. Rembrandt grabbed a breathalyzer out of his corner. Ref Paul Santa said Sells failed the test and awarded the match and belt to Rembrandt. Sell grimly walked back to the dressing room, doomed to never allowing a Miller Lite touch his lips again.
The post match was confusing. The New Realm title is all about beer being legal during the matches so it would have helped if it had been known that Sells had to wrestle alcohol-free. Either there's more to come or Sells will go into the DTs.
(6) James Storm defeated Luka Daniels in 10:20. No beer drinking restrictions on this match. Storm's announced weight had dropped five pounds because he had switched to light beer. Storm asked a kindly woman for some assistance.
A fan handed Storm a french fry. Storm had a better idea -- stuff a cheeseburger into Luka's mouth. Back inside, Daniels gave Storm a low blow and tried to pin him with feet on the ropes. Martinez ran to ringside to knock Luka's feet off the ropes but was late getting there so Daniels had to pretend like it happened. Daniels got in the face of referee Jesse Morales. Morales shoved Daniels in the direction of Storm's superkick and that was that.
They played it for comedy and got a lot of laughs. Daniels is a cartoon character come to life. Nobody cared about the screw up on the finish.
Martinez was sick of Daniels interfering in his matches for the last two years and he wanted him one time, tables, ladders and chairs. Daniels was furious and received two language warning from referee Paul Santa. The match is evidently on for October 26.
The crowd popped at the sniff of a TLC. That both lost their matches and the crowd didn't have clue one about their past, it mattered not. The stipulation was later changed to a Mexican Death Match.
(7) The DSW title match between champion Najasism and former champion Apollo Prince (with Jay Alpha Miller) was ruled a draw on a double pin at 19:48. This came about after their match at Monday Night Brewing last Sunday ended in controversy: Naja won but Apollo's foot was on the ropes when the ref counted three.
Interesting dynamic as they're both heels but the DSW fans are split about Naja. They got into a hair pulling contest, simultaneous punches, eye pokes and blocked low blows. Fast forward -- battle on the apron, Naja missed a slingshot DDT but hit a destroyer. Apollo powered out of a Koji Clutch and a Rings of Saturn. Naja locked in the Sharpest Shooter. Still, Apollo refused to submit He gave Naja a stunner for a 2.99 near fall. Apollo then inadvertently speared referee Santos.
Everybody in the pool. Teflon, Mims, Diggs, Kane all got involved. Naja used the belt, Apollo used a chain. They draped one arm across each other for a double pin. Match was announced as a draw. Chaos and confusion reigned. Naja supericked Apollo after the bell.
A fatal four-way title match was announced for October Rust -- Naja (c) v. Apollo v. Kane v. Miller.
Naja and Apollo worked their asses off. The hair pulling contest was a fresh idea. The crowd ate up the chaos, confusion and ambiguity of the finish. I Interesting that Diggs got involved since he's not in the fatal four way at October Rust.
NOTES: DSW will have shows at the Decatur BBQ Festival on October 18 and the Little Five Points Festival on October 18 and 19...In the absence of Nathan Hamilton, DSW Women's Champion Gemma Jewels joined Drew Dickinson on commentary...C-Dub is on the shelf with a torn biceps he suffered at his place of employment. The staples will come out this week. C-Dub floated a conspiracy theory about the super annoying car alarm that kept blaring during the second half of the show and started when Gemma Jewels got in the ring. Jewels threated to slash their tires.
