The Devil’s rejects have found a new home in Columbus, Georgia. Familiar faces from throughout the south are main eventers and headliners in this unique venue on the north side of this growing city. The company formerly SPW, then NWA, has found its calling in the fighting Americana style as “National Syndicate Wrestling”. The logo fits the city that borders Ft. Benning ‘Home of the Infantry’ which NSW more than caters to.
Fans from throughout Georgia filled the seats with many local veterans in attendance who were clearly long-term fans; trust me they’ll educate you on who’s who in the ring. The show started promptly at 7:30 with a lovely rendition of our National Anthem sung by NSW’s interviewer Diana Michel. Once the formalities and fan-fare where out of the way they kicked off one helluva show.
Match 1: “They call me” Dom Stuckey vs. Cash Calloway
Both men are known throughout Georgia. Dom Stuckey the unstoppable force might have met his match in the Immovable object of Cash Calloway. Watching Dom throughout his young career has certainly grown as a performer. He stuck and moved faster than Cash could keep up with, however, once Calloway got his hands on the high flyer he certainly brought the pain to him. Reversal after reversal lead to Dom dropping a double underhook DDT for the victory.
Match Highlight-- Dom’s top rope Leg-drop put the pause into Calloway
Match 2: Jaxon Vile vs. David Ali
For 2 men meeting in the NSW ring for the first time they seemingly hated each other! Vile ‘s boot met Ali’s face before the ref had a chance to ring the bell. The moniker of human highlight reel has been thrown around for a long time but David Ali has more than earned it. His moves are flashy and more importantly effective on taking on his opponents. He might have been a blur in the ring but Vile proves you don’t have to be pretty to be effective. Properly placed fists, knees, and headbutts kept Ali grounded and humble. The fans took to Ali pretty quickly and that might have gone to his head. Ali took too long to set up for a top rope elbow allowing Vile to recover and hit Ali with Fireman Piledriver that would make a grown man shorter. Jaxon Vile took the W with that finisher. Thoughts and Prayers to David Ali after that move.
*Match Highlight—Ali’s top rope Shotgun Dropkick knocked the soul out of Vile.
Match 3: Bubba Rage vs. Jaime Holly
The world’s angriest rage-aholic Bubba Rage locked horns with the old-school carnie style of Jaime Holly. Word to the wise; Bubba doesn’t like anyone’s antics… ever. This match showed the versatility of both men; switching from collegiate style wrestling to old school brawling. Jaime Holly took every opportunity to wow the crowd; however, Bubba fought dirty every chance he got. With the ref distracted Rage hit Holly with a low blow and finished him off with his patented Bubba-Bomb for the win.
*Match Highlight—Only a keen eye caught the Olympic-style pinning combinations of Bubba Rage; versatility unseen by the brawler*
Match 4: William Huckaby vs. Bruiser Munoz
Reality TV star and “WorldStar Hip-Hops” Favorite wrestling William Huckaby had a knockdown, drag out battle that shook the Richter scale. There was nothing glamorous about this match, it was just sheer brutality. Two grown men slung fists and used their own bodies as weapons against each other. The crowd did not appreciate the gloating and bravado of Huckaby, but he honestly could not care less with pulling the victory with a rollup and using the ropes as leverage. This new celebrity status of Huckaby has inflated his ego and he has something to say.
Match Highlight—Between all the fists Huckaby hit Bruiser with a Sambo Suplex with a fury
Match 5: Shane Marx vs. Michael Spencer
This match was more like a prison fight with OG Matt Hankins and Brian Blaze in the corner of Shane Marx. There seems to be a unity there that is not good for everyone in the locker room; namely Michael Spencer. He tried as best as he could but Spencer could not compete with the numbers against him. Spencer might have stood a chance against Marx, and there were moments of hope for him; however, the emboldened Marx seemingly enjoyed dashing said hopes of the young man with his superior strength. A floating brainbuster put Spencer down for the 1-2-3.
Match Highlight—Spencer slapped the daylights out of Marx; which was both brave and stupid
Match 6: Brent Banner vs. Jaime Hall
This is exactly how to come back from an intermission. These two lions went at it from the word go! Newcomer Brent Banner had something to prove to Columbus against the crowd favorite Jaime Hall. They held nothing back and left it all on the line. The ropes were Banner’s weapon of choice; using various incarnations of the “tree of woe” and springboard attacks to keep Hall shook up. The never say die attitude of the US soldier Jaime Hall found ways to outmaneuver and outthink the manic style of Banner. After kicking out of an S.T.O., Banner set up the move for a second time when Hall reversed it into his Death Valley Drop for the win!
Match Highlight—Jaime Hall hitting Banner with a codebreaker through the 2cd rope was simply ferocious
Match 7: Hawk Thomas vs. Matt Gilbert
Nobody was safe in the Battle of the Bald-Headed Brawlers. In this David vs Goliath match, the shorter Gilbert proved a man could fly; however, his landing took out the entire first row of fans! It was like an explosion went off! In the chaos the two combatants cleared the dust with fists and feet flying. The much larger Hawk Thomas pummeled the Barefooted Gilbert like he stole from him. Gilbert did get some echoing slaps but Hawk pulled out the victory with an earth-shattering spear!
Match Highlight—I’m telling you Gilbert took out the entire first row! You gotta see it!
Match 8: NSW Jr Heavyweight Champion Stunt Marshall vs. Dax Anthony
A reign of 1028 days as champion ended spectacularly! This match kept everyone on the edge of the seats that Matt Gilbert didn’t destroy. Is was obvious from the beginning that Dax Anthony did his homework on Stunt Marshall. He was one step ahead of the long-term champ at every pass. Watching Dax Anthony soar through the air with ease was something to behold—his springboard to top rope backflip nearly shattered the rafters. Once Marshall became wise to Anthony’s plan he broke out a new move set to keep the challenger on his toes. Needless to say, both men brought their A-Game. Stunt gained the upper-hand and set up for a pump-handle slam, but with Dax being one-step ahead he reversed the finisher into a small package for the victory!
*Match Highlight—Stunt Marshall’s 2cd rope springboard cutter almost blew the roof off! *
Main Event: NSW Heavyweight Champion Cameron Jackson vs. Brian Blaze
Cameron Jackson is very much the champion of NSW in Columbus but he might have been overwhelmed by the group of Brian Blaze, Shane Marx, and OG Matt Hankins: being announced as “The Passion of The Real”. Much like earlier in the night this was much like a 3 on 1 match. The St. Louis Slugger Cameron Jackson being the fighting champion he is welcomed the challenge and fought off the 3 men as best he could. Blaze known for his strength took advantage of the distractions and slammed the 300-pound champion at every opportunity. After the ref grew wise to “The Real’s” distractions and ejected OG Matt Hankins from ringside. Attempting to help Blaze win the gold Shane Marx jumped on the apron and grabbed onto Jackson for Blaze. Cameron ducked the fist and allowing Blaze and Marx to knock each other out. The champ hit Brian with his 2nd rope ‘Unstoppable’ Senton allowing him to keep the gold around his waist.
Post-match Matt Hankins joined by Bubba Rage ran into the ring to put boots to Cameron Jackson. The rest of “Passion of The Real” joined into to fray until stopped by the rest of the locker room. Once the dust settled only Jackson and Rage remained in the ring. Former tag team partners and champions turned bitter rivals, the tension reached a boiling point. Jackson went for a full nelson but Rage slipped out and ran through the crowd closing an all-around GREAT show.
