Happy New Year to everyone supporting both the Puerto Rican Wrestling scene and their local indy wrestling promotion throughout the Southeast. This second editon of Puerto Rican Wrestling News and Notes Best of 2018 is dedicated to the memory of the now late Keylla Hernandez, the news anchor from WAPA TV's Noticentro Al Amanecer who passed away on New Years Eve December 31 after a three year battle with cancer. On behalf of myself and everyone in Georgia Wrestling History News and Notes, we send our deepest condolences, sympathies, and prayers to her family and friends at WAPA TV in their time of grief and mourning.
Mysterio Mania: The event that launched the rebirth of IWA Puerto Rico
Thursday Novemmysber 29 at the historic Mario Quijote Morales Colisem in Guaynabo, Mysterio Mania was held. After a hard fought match against current WWC World Tag Team Champions: “La Artilleria Pesada” Thunder and Lightning (with. El Profe). “El Boricua Mayor” Savio Vega and “The Canadian Glamour Boy” Shane Sewell along with El Leon Apolo and Dennis Rivera announced the return and rebirth of IWA Puerto Rico starting with their Impacto Total Tour January 11 at the Raymond Dalmau Coliseum in Quebradillas, January 12 at the Juan Aubin Cruz Coliseum in Manati and Sunday January 13 at Mario Quijote Morales Coliseum in Guaynabo. On those three nights, the lengendary WWC Puerto Rico tag team of Mark and Chris Youngblood return. The Youngbloods held both the WWC World and the now defunct Caribbean Tag Team championships throughout the late 80’s and throughout the decade of the 90’s and fought against WWE hall of famers, the Wild Samoans (Afa and Sika), NWA Tag Team legends, The Batten Twins, and WWE hall of famer Rikishi (the father of WWE SmackDown! Live’s Jimmy and Jey Uso). The lucky winner of a raffle will take home an authentic replica of IWA Puerto Rico’s World Championship courtesy of Collection Spot.
Charity Wrestling Organization: One year of live fundraising wrestling events helping the people in need
In 2017, Luis Cotte and his family formed a local wrestling promotion that produces live events for fundraising purposes to help people in need with big events throughout the West and South of Puerto Rico called Charity Wrestling Organization. One year later, even after the wreckage and damage throughout the Island caused by Hurricane Maria, the CWO started more live fundraising wrestling events as well as selling meals to raise funds for travel expenses people with serious medical issues to going stateside for medical treatments, for school supplies for kids in needy communities, and in their ednd of 2018 event “Una Lucha por la Navidad” (A Match for Christmas.) loyal fans dropped off new toys for needy kids at the Barrio La Torre in Sabana Grande.

Rise of new Puerto Rican Independent Wrestling promotions and the return of Ponce's 100% Lucha and Fajardo's New Borinquen Pro Wrestling
Throughout the year 2018, we sawn the rise of new independent wrestling promotions throughout the Island from Isabela/Aguadilla area’s Super Gladiators Wrestling, to Ponce's Revolution Wrestling Entertainment which serves as WWC Puerto Rico’s Development Territory, and Jayuya Wrestling League in Jayuya, along with the return after almost a two year abscence of Ponce's 100% Lucha promotion and PR’s New Borinquen Pro to serve as WWL’s development territory.
The year of “La Chica de la Actitud” Roxxy, Vanilla Vargas. And Raeven Marie
Three top Puerto Rican women wrestlers made 2018 their year. Raeven Marie, daughter of Vertigo who held the now defunct NRW Mayaguez promotion’s Intercontinental Championship and two time WXW World Tag Team Champions with Raziel, made a household name not just in Puerto Rico but also in Florida’s indy wrestling circuit. Raeven Marie held the Warrior Beed Wrestling World Tag Team Championships with tag team partner and fellow Boricua women wrestler, La Varoneza, and three Women’s Championship’s ( New Evolution Wrestling, Warrior Breed Wrestling and WXW Women’s Championships in Florida). Marie also appeared with Varoneza as Su Yung’s Dead Brides on an Impact Wrestling episode along with being ringside with her dad and stars from WXW Afa’s Wild Samoan Training Facility in a WWE SmackDown! Live episode taping in Orlando.
“La Chica de la Actitud” Roxxy had a hardcore match at ICWA Florida’s Caribbean Confrontation in Rincon against Mexican luchadora Ludark Shaitan, leaving the WWL for good to become the new XWE Women’s Champion in Orlando, along with her war against “The American Kaiju” Lindsay Snow at Toa Baja’s NPWA promotion. At their third and final encounter at Consecuencias, Roxxy defeated Snow, retaining both her wrestling career and the XWE Women’s Champion.
Finally, Vanilla Vargas won three Women’s Championships in 2018, still holding both Parma, Ohio’s Cleveland Knights Championship Wrestling and Coral Gables Coastal Championship Wrestling’s Women’s Championships and the UWLA Women’s title (Memphis). Last summer, Vargas successfully defended the CCW Women’s Championship against Roxxy and former WWE Divas Champion: Celeste Bonin (Kaitlyn) at WWL’s War in the West in Mayaguez, only to leave the promotion months later to join AAA in Mexico. Vargas also did a tour in Colombia as well as having a WWE Latin American tryout with Angel Fashion this past November.
