Victory Championship Wrestling Georgia held their second annual Very Merry Royal Rumble event on Saturday, December 14th. The overall show was well received among the Franklin, Georgia crowd. The Over-the-Top-Rope main event and the Heavyweight title match made the company’s final big show of 2019 one to remember.
VCWG originally started operations as West Georgia Wrestling Entertainment in mid-2018, under the owner Jeff Tucker. In April of 2019, Tucker merged WGWE with Johnny Slaughter’s Victory Championship Wrestling. WGWE then became known as VCW: Georgia.
Attendance at the Heard County Parks and Rec Center was 80. The crowd in Franklin was one of the most lively the promotion had seen.
The show opens with Ring announcer and play-by-play Blake Spivey. Spivey opens the show by inviting some kids into the ring for the National Anthem and Tim Tidwell, pastor of a local baptist church, for an opening word of prayer.
(1) The Golden Boy Chic Donovan defeats David Burkett at 6:35. Burkett came out first to a pleasing ovation from the crowd, but it was clear that they were waiting on the arrival of the Georgia Heavyweight Champion. Chic Donovan enters the ring to great cheers. Burkett had not had the best record in VCWG, but he had recently scored a pin-fall win over Kavron Kanyon. The match started out relatively quickly, but Burkett couldn’t get any major bursts of offense. Chic worked the arm for most of the match. The match ended when Chic caught Burkett in a Figure-Four Leg lock. Both men rose to their feet and shook hands to end the segment.
(2) Big and Dirty(Big Daddy Osbourne and Dirty Dave Tate) retain Tag Titles against Scum Kritter and Major Victory in 13:41. The Boss returns to VCWG for the first time since September to accompany the champions to the ring. Scum Kritter comes out and claims that the trash trucks at their “Turkey Creek Landfill” were ruined and graffiti with the champions’ names were on the sides. He then invited Major Victory to be an “honorary Kritter.” The match started off pretty standard, then erupted into chaos as all four participants were in the ring at once multiple times. After roughly 5 minutes of the champions beating down Major Victory, Scum Kritter tagged himself in, however the referee didn’t see the tag and was sent back. The finish occurred when The Boss threw in his chain to Osbourne. As Osbourne went to hit a now legal Scum Kritter, Scum took the chain from him and was prompted to hit Osbourne. Before he could, though, Osbourne hit the mat. The referee disqualified Scum for illegally using the chain. Champions retain the VCWG tag team titles. Scum Kritter challenged them to a rematch at the next VCWG show.
(3) Jay Hunter defeats Kavron Kanyon in 7:28. Kanyon arrives first, and apologizes to the crowd for his previous behavior. Hunter comes out and demands Blake Spivey announce him as the WWA4 Heavyweight champion. The match begins with crowd pandering. The fan favorite is Kanyon, and Hunter does not like that. The opening exchange is fast-paced, but Hunter gets the better of it. The whole match sees Jay Hunter Target Kavron’s left leg. Kavron does get some “farm-based” offense in, including a Cow Tipper pumphandle slam and a Hay Bail Toss across the ring. In the end, Kanyon’s leg got the better of him and Hunter planted him down for the pin fall win.
(4) Lamar Diggs vs Tommy Maddux ends in a double Knock-Out in 9:50. Maddux made his debut in November in a time-limit draw with Skrilla the Great. He looks to change that record against the now debuting Lamar Diggs. The story of this match seemed to be a beast trying to slay a giant. Diggs had the size advantage, but Maddux had the speed and agility. After multiple attempts to tire out Maddux, Diggs got frustrated early. A few minutes in, it was clear that Diggs was slowing Maddux down, but that didn’t stop Tommy from making a comeback. By the end of the match, both men were so tired neither of them could make it back. The referee counted to 10 and called the match a double knock-out.
Before intermission, Spivey recognizes Scott Brand, owner of the Columbus River Dragons Ice Hockey team, and brings out their mascot Scorch for a dance routine. Then Buddy Fuller, a former wrestler and addict shared his testimony. Cue the brief intermission before the second episode began filming.
(5) The Archangel Gabriel defeats De A T aLien in 8:30. De A T enters the ring first and berates the crowd for their lack of cheering. He then threatens to assault Scorch the Dragon, when The Archangel Gabriel enters the ring. They exchange looks and a few misfired moves before the bell rings. Fast-paced High flying was the favorable offensive strategy for the Archangel, and De A T aLien tried everything he could to stop the Archangel in his tracks. Gabriel went for a springboard drop kick, which was reversed into a drop kick from aLien. Just when things started looking grim for the Archangel, he made a triumphant comeback, mainly due to
The crowd is reminded of VCW Alabama returning to Munford, Alabama for Tag Team Roulette on January 4th.
(6) Joey Corbin steals a win over William Huckaby in 7:10. The match began with multiple members of Corbin’s stable “The Society” surrounding ringside. Taliaferro Thirteenth and Karma were familiar faces, but a new mysterious member was also present, who would later be identified as Jack Mayhem. Huckaby was not a small man, so wearing him down was a big challenge for Corbin. The ringside presence took shape early, as the official sent Mayhem and Taliaferro to the back a few minutes in. Karma was still there, however, and took full advantage of her opportunities. Distracting Huckaby at every chance allowed Joey Corbin to attack from behind. The brawl led outside the ring where damage to the lighting rig and guard rail occurred. The match ended when Taliaferro re-emerged and distracted the referee long enough for Jack Mayhem and Joey Corbin to lay Huckaby out. Corbin wins by pin to a displeased crowd.
The Society gets in the ring and beats down on Huckaby, when Tommy Maddux comes in to make the save. The Society flee, allowing a sportsmanly handshake to occur between the two faces.
(7) Tyson Creed retains against Skrilla the Great at 12:47. This was the second most hyped up match of the entire event, aside from the Rumble itself. Blake Spivey give thorough introductions for both men, and the Franklin crowd is fully on the side of the champion, Creed. Some quick technical work opens the match, but eventually Skrilla took over. After a few minutes of full-Skrilla offense, Creed surprises the challenger with a spear in the center of the ring. Creed attempts a diving headbutt to no success. Skrilla plants Creed for a two count, and he is frustrated with Senior Official Joe Simmons. He shoves Simmons, and Simmons shoves Skrilla back in return. The tension between these two comes to a climax when Creed rolls up Skrilla and Simmons gives a fast count. Creed retains, Spivey is shocked, Skrilla is incensed, and the Franklin crowd loved every second of it.
(8) Skrilla the Great wins the 2nd Annual Very Merry Royal Rumble match in 21:36. William Huckaby is out first, then the crowd is in shock when Skrilla the Great walks out at number 2, having just lost his title match. This match went by quickly with 1-minute intervals. Lamar Diggs at 3. He lays out both men, then squares off with Huckaby. At this point, Tyson Creed joins Blake Spivey on commentary. The Archangel enters at 4, followed by De A T aLien at 5. They go off against each other, leaving Diggs to lay out Huckaby. Huckaby is thrown out, first of the match. Archangel takes out Skrilla and he slides out under the ring. Scum Kritter at 6, and he goes after the bigger guys. Jack Mayhem at 7, and a new character, Pretty Boy TTR at 8. Mayhem and Pretty boy go out quickly. Number 9, to the audience’s surprise, is Scorch the Dragon, mascot of the Columbus River Dragons. He is quickly surrounded and tossed out by the rest of the field. He is followed by Major Victory at 10 and Joey Corbin at 11. Victory is thrown out after a few highlight punches and kicks. Corbin lasts a bit longer but is also thrown out pretty quickly. The second surprise entry at 12 is the manager of The Society, Taliaferro Thirteenth. He stands face to face with Lamar Diggs and proceeds to eliminate himself. Tommy Maddux enters at 13, and eliminates Diggs and himself. They brawl to the back. In all the chaos, multiple eliminations happened leading to the only two in the ring being De A T aLien and The Archangel. Jay Hunter at 14, and he and aLien form an alliance to take out the Angel and any other participants. The final entrant is Kavron Kanyon, who puts up a good fight but is thrown out pretty quickly. Before Hunter can celebrate, he is tossed out by De A T aLien, who is also thrown out by the Archangel. It seems here that the Archangel has won, and the crowd could not be happier. As his hand is being raised, Skrilla the Great emerges and throws the Archangel out, stealing the victory and earning his rematch at Tyson Creed’s VCWG Heavyweight title.
The officials declare that Skrilla was never eliminated, so this win counts. Tyson Creed and Skrilla shake hands, and Skrilla attacks Creed from behind. He planted Creed on top of his title and walked out as a dominant force in VCWG. The show ends with no commentary, and a distraught Tyson Creed in the ring.
