Southern Honor Wrestling held its monthly show for March last Friday, presenting us with SHW 37. SHW has been a roll the last couple of months, presenting great in ring wrestling, advancing emotional stories, and as always providing the best production of any promotion in Georgia. They do all this while still managing to draw some of the largest crowds in the state. I was asked last week what I thought the attendance would be for SHW 37. I said they would not break 500, between some recent controversies and running against their cross town rivals Action Wrestling, I just did not simply see 500 happening. I was wrong, SHW exceeded expectations with 519 paid in attendance. These 519 fans were exciting, they were emotional, and they provided a great environment to watch a wrestling show.
RobBrod covered SHW 37, and his report is great, and absolutely worth reading. In fact I would encourage you to go read it first, before reading this, as this will not be a detailed breakdown of the matches and segments, just simply some of my thoughts and notes that I made though the night.
-I really enjoyed the change in pre show music. This was clearly a conscious choice by SHW and it really helped set the mood and atmosphere for the whole night.
-DJ TonNek is fantastic. If you are looking for a DJ for an event, look him up, you will not be disappointed.
-This crowd was fired up from the beginning, it is one of the best crowds to be around in Georgia.
-I thought the video package to start the show was very well done. Anyone who had never been to SHW before could watch that video and would be able to understand most of what was going on story wise.
-Carlie Bravo takes a huge step forward every time I see him in the ring.
-I like Bravo bringing up the fact that he was called “replacement” by Gary Lamb. I don’t know if his turning on Kingsley was a straight up heel turn, or if it was just to get more people talking about him. Either way it worked.
-If you are not booking Carlie Bravo on your show, you are making a mistake.
-I really loved Kingsley's energy, but I keep waiting for him to take that next step in the ring, and it just hasn’t happened yet.
-Gunner Miller’s promo work has seriously improved over the past few months.
-Gunner is so over at SHW. Seems like he slips through the cracks when it comes time for championship contenders.
-I love that Bryce Cannon is doing more work in North Georgia, I am getting to seem him much more often and I can see why he won Male Performer of the Year 2021.
-Bryce’s selling is top notch. He bumped like a boss for Gunner.
-The Gunner/Bryce match was booked so well. Seeing how well Bryce can work with someone bigger than him is really impressive.
-Reka Tehaka gets a huge pop, I absolutely love her theme music. -First time seeing Heather Monroe. She looked solid, but she definitely could have embraced the role of heel better.
-I like the fact Reka now calls herself “The Queen” now that Dani Jordyn is not around.
-The women's match ran too long, and lost the crowd at the end.
-The biggest pop at SHW always goes to Gary Lamb
-Gary didn’t have too, but he addressed the “elephant in the room”…..kinda, but most in attendance did not know what he was referring to.
-It was tense moment when The Lynch Bros and Gary Lamb were in the ring.
-Of all the teams that I thought would pop through the curtain next, The Jungle Kings were number 187 on my list.
-The All Star Special promo after the match was very well done. The timing of it was great, and the crowd really popped for it,
-It was just a video but Hold My Beer Hanson looks like he has lost some weight.
-I really enjoyed the Brooklyn Creed promo. It gave more insight to Krule’s character as well as her intentions.
-Brooklyn’s promo got some “boring” chants from the crowd. Her promo probably lasted a little too long, but she did not overstay her welcome.
-Brooklyn was a gimmick table before the show and during intermission, she got a lot of heat from pissed off fans. She did a great job of playing her character and jaw jacking with these pissed off fans.
-The Sunny Daze surprise at the end of the promo was well done. The crowd needed that at that time during the show.
-Kruel vs. Daze in a dog collar match for booking control. I wonder if they can top the last dog collar match at SHW? And what will happen if Krule is the new booker?
-Cyrus is a number one contender I can get behind. -Apparently Cyrus has never been pinned at SHW.
-What I can say about David Ali, he is arguably the best in the state and he showed why against Cyrus.
-The Cyrus/Ali match was easily my favorite of the night, and I would encourage anyone reading this to go and watch this match. It was just a flat out great match, booked well, and executed even better.
-Cyrus 2nd rope (the most dangerous rope) twisting moonsault is one of the most impressive moves by any big man in all of wrestling.
-One of my most favorite things to do is watch people's reactions when they see Tank and Rev. Dan for the first time.
-Poor Nathan.
-SHW crowd did not know how to take deathmatch wrestling. They were silent from shock for a lot of the match. -Rob was correct, people were actually saying “oh my gosh, this is real!”
-Poor Nathan.
-Tank was just going through the motions for this one, which is all he needed to do.
-Prop to Nathan for taking all the spots, very impressed with him. -I’ve actually never seen a wrestler get set on fire in person before. It is a sight to see, and the fan’s reaction was insane for this spot.
-Poor Nathan. -I think tonight was a record for how quickly SHW got their cage setup. Usually it takes much longer.
-A lot of people left during intermission while the cage was being set up. Some of this might have been due to the violence of the match before. However it was well past 10:00 and it is not an uncommon thing for their fans to leave when they have a late intermission.
-Everyone needs to experience Owen Knight’s entrance at SHW in person at least once.
-Joe Black just looks like a superstar when he is walking to the ring.
-All of Joe’s heat seems to be gone. It wasn’t as nearly as strong of a reaction as you would expect given Joe’s recent behavior and comments.
-Owen and Joe lit each other up inside the cage. The match looked very physical and violent.
-Joe Black is serious on “a whole nutha level” these days.
-I don’t know what you could call the finishing move that Owen gave Joe off the top of the cage, but it looked impressive, it looked painful, and it looked believable. So believable that it makes sense that a move of that magnitude was the only thing able to stop Joe Black.
-This was one of the better one-on-one cage matches you are going to see. It is a clinic in everything to do right in a cage match. Watch it!
-Cyrus walking to ring and clapping his hands as Owen celebrated was perfect. That was exactly what he needed to do. Not one thing more.
-Just a well above average show all around. SHW continues to be highly entertaining, while providing some of the best in ring wrestling in Georgia. Gary and Dylan need to be proud of themselves for this show, it was a job well done. They continue to book things that people want to see, while still providing a variety of match styles for all wrestling fans. Next show will feature Kruel vs. Sunny Daze in a dog collar match for control of SHW. This could get REALLY interesting. I wouldn’t want to miss it.
