From Rob Brodhecker:
My first visit to UWF, which was born from the ashes of All-Star Wrestling @ the Gray-Bell promotion that was in Royston, Ga. Operating since April of 2022, UWF’s twice-a-month Sunday shows have the opportunity of wrestlers completing a 3-day tour in Georgia. An eclectic mix of veterans (Nick Halen, Stevie Ray Frost, Vary Morales) and younger talent (Hunter James, Jaden Vain, and Luka Daniels) will be in the building tonight.
The UWF building itself is a bit “hole-in-the-wall” being
attached to a furniture shop, but not detrimentally so, IMO. They can fit 100
in here quite easily; today’s show looks to be 40-45 with a 4:30 bell time.
Shows are streamed on the UWF YouTube page.
Billy Bell starts the show, greeting the crowd. He
introduces a young child who has won some wrestling titles. The next show will
be on Oct 16th. Bell brings out Rick Page who will be the ring
announcer. Ref Slim and Brandon Todd are the referees
1st. match: Unsanctioned Capitol Punishment
match: DC Washington vs. Jaden Vain.
Washington hails from Washington, DC, so instant animosity
with this crowd. Vain is the UWF Heritage Champion, he goes right after DC, DC
escapes to the floor, Vain follows and they fight ringside. Back in the ring, a
Thez press by DC allows him some shots. Vain does the 14 punches of Doom and DC
does the Flair Flop. DC dives through the ropes onto Vain and they fight
ringside again; Vain dumps DC into the laps of a couple of fans and they dump
DC right back over the barricade. DC introduces a folding chair, and sets it up
in the middle of the ring, Vain reverses what DC was planning and gives DC a
shining wizard with DC sitting on the chair. Vain has the chair, DC’s begging
him to use it, Vain tosses the chair to the side, I’m guessing he wants a more
personal attack. DC leg trips Vain face first onto the chair and uses the chair
to choke Vain. DC exposes a top turnbuckle, Vain blocks the first attempt, but
DC Irish whips him into it. Leg sweep by DC then he ties Vain up. A “let’s go
Brandon” chant starts. DC uses athletic tape to choke Vain. Vain whips DC chest
first into the exposed turnbuckle and stomps away. They are fighting in the
ropes, and Vain gives DC the Sheamus forearms. Eye poke by DC and he drags
Vain’s face across the ring apron. Vain’s tied up in the ropes, DC pounds away
and then grabs the chair. DC swings but Vain frees himself and the chair hits
the rope and rebounds onto DC for a near fall. Figure four by Vain, DC pounds
away at the leg of Vain to release the hold. DC goes for a second rope senton
but misses. Vain monkey flips DC into the x-turnbuckle for a near fall. Vain
has the chair, and DC's calling for a time-out. Vain goes to hit, DC low blows
him, and locks in what looks to be a Tazmision variant. Vain tries to fight out of it but passes
out. Winner by submission: DC Washington at 17:03
2nd match: Luka Daniels vs. Dynamic Dexter with Justin
Insane.
Usual unicorn antics with Dexter involving Justin and
Daniels and a baseball bat, or was it a cricket bat or a ping-pong paddle.
Anyway, the match starts with Dexter trying to do a handstand in the corner and
Daniels hitting him in the stomach with a forearm. Dexter strikes back,
throwing hooves, but misses a corner splash. Dexter shoves a piece of his gear
into the mouth of Daniels and then plants him with a front codebreaker and gets
a near fall. Nice combo of three rolling senton for a near fall. Daniels goes
for his bat and brings it into the ring, this brings Justin up on the apron,
grabbing the bat. Daniels and Justin play tug of war with the bat and the bat
hits Justin. The bat goes flying and lands in the hands of Dexter. Daniels
plays dead when the ref turns around and sees Dexter with the bat and calls for
the DQ at 7:09.
Justin runs Daniels out of the ring and then holds up
Dexter. Daniels attacks them from behind, using the bat on Dexter.
Page brings out Crystal Rose who is making her UWF debut. She
gets a good pop from the crowd. Before she can even say a word, Hunter James
comes out saying that he wasn’t going to let a woman speak before him. James
says that Rose needs to leave and make him a sammich because he’s absolutely varsity
and can go all night long. Rose slaps the taste out of his mouth. Arian Locklear comes out, the Authority Figure
here at UWF. He’s the wolf and he doesn’t concern himself with the opinions of
sheep. As the authority figure, Adrian Locklear aka Pops the Wolf, he’s looking
for great talent. He believes that the Natural Born Legend, Rose can beat James
and makes the match. James doesn’t want to wrestle a woman. Wolf doesn’t care
and we have a match.
3rd match: Natural Born Legend Crystal Rose vs "Absolutely
Varsity" Hunter James.
James gets a crybaby chant and a JV chant, and someone even
yells out Pee-Wee. James's showing off and Crystal shows out and sends James
out of the ring. Back in the ring, James lands a drop kick and puts Rose in a
headlock, still complaining about food not being ready. James gives Rose a
front atomic drop to absolutely no effect. James realizes his mistake but Rose
gives him a front atomic drop to the delight of the crowd. James goes up top
but lands face first into the boot of Rose. Rose tees off and body slams James
for a near fall. Rose pulls James’s arms behind him, looking for a stomp, but
James rolls through and plants Rose for the win.
4th match: Caleb Crocker vs. Vary Morales.
Crocker gets a Betty Crocker chant directed at him. Vary all
over Crocker like Crocker’s chest hair, Crocker has to grab the ropes to get
relief. Crocker pulls Vary’s hair to try to gain an advantage, but that doesn't
work out too well as Vary sends Crocker outside and then dives on him. Fireman’s
carry into a neck breaker by Crocker. Monkey flip by Crocker and then chokes
Vary with his leg while talking to the ref. Crocker is yelling about taking
Vary to whole ‘notha level: A falcon’s arrow only gets a near fall, though.
Vary lands a few strikes but Crocker knocks him out of the ring. Crocker
follows and they fight ringside. Back in the ring, Crocker lands a leg lariat
from behind for a near fall. Vary lands a drop kick from the middle turnbuckle
to leave both men down. A beautiful kick by Vary stuns Crocker. Vary sets up but
Crocker reverses and gets a near fall. Crocker going up top, Vary catches him
and they fight up top. Vary gets knocked down, Crocker goes for a splash, and Vary
moves out of the way. One suplex and under-hook piledriver-ish move later, Vary
pins Crocker at 12:11.
Crocker stumbles his way to the back with the crowd giving
their encouragement.
Intermission.
5th match: Austin Thorne vs. Marcus Adams.
Not familiar with either man, the crowd immediately gets on
Thorne’s case. Thought Page introduced Thorne as Hot Tropic but it was Hot
Topic. Thorne’s got a couple of inches in height and fairly slim, Adams is
built like a powerlifter. Might be a student/teacher sitch happening. Adams
holds the arms of Thorne while crowd members chop Thorne’s chest. Some good
back and forth in the middle minutes of the match. A body scissor chin lock by
Thorne gets turned into a jaw jack. A corner splash by Adams misses but a big
boot by Thorne doesn’t. Body shots by Adams into a power slam; Adams sets up in
the corner for a lariat and nails it. Adams goes up top, and Thorne shoves Slim
into the ropes to crotch Adams. Thorne goes to plant Adams, but Adams reverses
it and wins at 11:14 after planting Thorne.
6th match: For the NCW Tag Team Championship: The
Grapplers (with Austin Thorne) vs. NCW Tag Champions Alex Kytel and Eli Smiles(c).
Grappler #1 confronts Papa Wolf, asking why Xander Seabolt
was banned from the building. Wolf agreed to the match being held at UWF only if
Seabolt was banned. Also, if the Grapplers want this to be a title match,
Thorne must leave as well. Thorne leaves, albeit rather gingerly from the
previous match. Kytel and Smiles get the heroes' welcome from the crowd. It’s
going to be next to impossible to tell which Grappler is which at any
particular time: they are covered head to toe and can only see their eyes. One
is a bit more vocal than the other, don’t know why. Smiles and Kytel frustrate
the Grapplers early and often. Smiles takes the heat for his team after some
Grappler shenanigans, they are really putting him through the wringer. Hope
spot for Smiles after an enziguri, and he makes the tag. A quick double team by
Kytel and Smiles, but one of the Grapplers punches Kytel in the face with some knucks
when Ref Todd was getting Smiles of the ring. Kytel gets pinned from that at 10:22.
New NCW Tag Champions: The Grapplers.
Main Event: Stevie Ray Frost (c) vs. Nick Halen for the UWF
Heavyweight Championship. Referee Bill Banks.
Frost doesn’t want anything to do with Halen in the opening
minutes and stalls outside. Halen drop kicks Frost through the ropes and rolls
him back inside, Frost rolls out the other side. Halen goes for another
baseball slide dropkick, but Frost opens up the ring skirt and traps Halen. Halen
recovers and delivers several hip tosses then locks in an arm bar. Both men
trade hair pulls, then head butts, knocking each other down. Frost doing some
dirty work with Halen draped off the ring apron. Frost and the crowd have some
good back and forth while Frost is doing damage to Halen, good stuff. Frost had
words for the ref, Halen almost school boys him. Frost wears Halen down with a
chin lock, Halen tries to get up, but Frost pulls him back down. Frost stomps
his way around Halen’s body while yelling Who’s the best. Halen punches his way
up, Frost punching along with him and they knocked each other back down. Halen
kips up and starts throwing lariats on Frost. Halen does some trash-talking of
his own. Frost tries for a pile driver, Halen flips it around, Halen up top,
and lands the elbow. The Grapplers come out along with Curtis Coleman, who pulls
the ref out of the ring and engages with the ref, while the Grapplers do damage
to Halen. With the Grapplers out of the ring, Frost pins Halen at 12:15 to
retain the UWF Heavyweight Championship. Everyone is Forewarned that there is a
new stable in Georgia.
A fun show: they aren’t trying to re-create the wheel
here, just entertaining the crowd. The wrestlers have some form of circuit
going, with stops at NCW, Anarchy, SFCW, Platinum, and other promotions. UWF is
on the lookout for a building of their own, where they have a bit more space to
operate.
My first time seeing some of the talents in action: DC
Washington, Eli Smiles, Justin Sane, Austin Thorne, and Marcus Adams. Other
talents I'm more familiar with after seeing them in action throughout the
years. I was told that Smiles was in a car accident not too long ago, I’m sure
he was feeling that in his match.
Always good to see Crystal in action; the atomic drop bit
was about as perfect as it can get.
Use the damn chair, Jaden!
IMO, Vary is often overlooked for what he brings to the
Georgia scene. He can work everywhere and everyone.
Who are those masked men?
If I say anything else good about either Hunter James or
Luka Daniels, I might get sued for palimony.
