By Rob Brodhecker:
Liquid Nation Brewery.
SVW’s anniversary show along with the Hall of Fame inductees.
TPTB at SVW did a neat twist on poster design for this show, using pictures
from all the talent’s past, check those out. Announced matches are Machine/Matthew
Mercer, Chris Del Ray/Luka Daniels, Ryan Murdoch/Jamie Holmes, Aeon & Silva
vs. Nawfside Heroes for the tag championship, Stevie Ray Frost against Ehren
Black for the Hoss Fight title, and Skrilla the Great challenges Austin Towers
for the SVW title.
HOF Inductees include Skrilla the Great (a day one OG and 3x
SVW champ), Turk and Tony Hughes of the Black Chains, Christian Chastain, with
Ryan Murdoch as a surprise inductee.
Kenneth Beckner is your ring announcer. Referees will be
Slim and Scottie Harvey.
Beckner brings out SVW’s owner Ryan Murdoch. Murdoch
announces that SVW will be going to Philly for WM. Murdoch announces the first
HOF Inductee, Christian Chastain, who makes the posters. Jamie Holmes is the
next inductee, followed by Black Chains: Turk and Tony Hughes (Tony had transportation
issues and could not attend.
Murdoch lauds how far
Skrilla has come over his career. Skrilla comes out and thanks Murdoch and
everyone. Skrilla says that he only came here for the HOF and not to wrestle.
This brings out SVW Champion, Austin Towers and the rest of the LHP Aeon and
Silva. They get into the ring and Aeon grabs the mic and tells everyone to shut
the hell out. Silva has a few words towards Skrilla and then hands the mic to
Towers. Towers lists out some of Skrilla’s accomplishments. He also makes fun
of the recent top 12 from GWH. Towers wonders what Skrilla’s opponents get when
they wrestle Skrilla. Towers plays some mind games with Skrilla, saying that
Skrilla is no longer great enough to win the SVW title again. Towers challenges
Skrilla for a match later tonight. Skrilla says that the reason why Towers
wants a match is that he can move up a spot on the list. The wars of words heat
up and Skrilla accepts the match.
Time for the surprise Murdoch induction. He gets lauded with
the locker room surrounding the ring. He’s presented with a specially designed
plaque with a gusset plate, barb wire, and tacks on the front and autographed
by everyone on the back.
Beckner starts the show by bring out the new acting SVW
commish, Axel Foley. Foley’s recovering from some injuries and the board is
putting him to work.
1: No canvas, barbwire match: Ryan Murdoch vs. Jamie Holmes.
All the good HOF feelings are gone now. These guys have been
spilling blood for years now. 3 sides of the ring are wrapped in barb wire, plus
there’s a barb wire bat, a 3x4 sheet board with tacks attached to it, a kendo
stick, with a few more objects around the ring. Holmes brings out a cow bell
and a bag of tacks and spills those around the ring. Cookie sheets get used and
both men go front first into the ropes. Holmes pushes a tack into the forehead
of Murdoch, no noticeable blood yet. A staple gun gets used on Holmes. Holmes
sets up the tack board, looking to throw Murdoch into it. Murdoch reverses and Holmes
hits the board. The bat gets used on the back of the leg of Holmes. Gusset
plate time, Holmes grabs it from Murdoch and uses on him. Holmes sets up a
chair ringside, Murdoch knocks him off the apron and onto the chair. Fighting
ringside, Holmes is Bleeding now from the forehead. Murdoch has a fan hold the
chair and throws Holmes into it. Gusset plate to the face of Murdoch, and he’s
bleeding. Murdoch throws a chair at Holmes head. Holmes is flat on his back and
out comes Tribulation members Machine and Vincent Only. They do bad things to
Murdoch and Machine drags Holmes over to cover Murdoch for the win at 9:29.
The reason for the word Violence in the name of the
promotion.
Brief intermission to clear the ring and attach the canvas
to it. And to get everyone liquored up.
2: Hoss Fight Title match: Stevie Ray Frost vs. Ehren Black
(c).
Frost has a huge task in front of him tonight. Black asks
for the mic and primes the crowd. Black handles his own intro, the crowd loves
Black. Shoulder tackles have no effect, Frost gets bounced out of the ring. Frost
tires to chop the chest of Black, nice sound, but Black flips Frost around and
caves his chest it. Black is playing with his food right now, throwing Frost
around the ring. Frost chop blocks the leg of Black and tries to knock Black’s
ear off with a couple of forearms. Frost targeting the leg, right arm, and head
of Black to keep him down. Black gains his base and using his left arm,
staggers frost and plants him for a near fall. Frost traps the arm and goes for
the submission, Black grabs the ropes.
Disrespect kicks from Frost, fires up Black and Black lays
out Frost with the injured right arm. Ref Harvey check Frost and declares him
knocked out and awards the match to Black at 9:13.
Black with the mic and wants the big F’n Deal, Geter, and
challenges Geter to a Hoss championship match.
The big man was having fun with his intro. Also, when the
Black/Geter match happens, someone better record that shit.
3: Matthew Mercer vs. Machine with Vincent Only.
Only extolls Machine to make it quick, Machine gets arm
dragged a couple of times. Mercer goes for a body slam, Machine blocks it and
goes to town on Mercer. The crowd doesn’t like Machine but can’t help to yell one more time when
Machine suplexes Mercer. Mercer fires
back, rocking Machine. Machine no sells a suplex and starts kicking away at the
midsection of Mercer. Only gets some shots in while Machine has the ref
distracted. Weak kicks by Mercer. Machine sets Mercer on the top, Mercer jumps on
top of Machine. Not a good sequence. Only tosses the chain into the ring,
distracting the ref and Mercer. Mercer jumps from the second rope, Machine
catches him in mid-air and slams him down for the win at 8:41.
Machine tosses Mercer out of the ring and Tribulation
celebrate. 4 minutes too long.
It really should have been about a 4-minute match.
4: Jeremie Prater vs. Takuri.
Yes, Virginia, Prater is a wrestler as well as a referee. The
crowd loves Takuri. Prater is trying to be sneaky with some sort of object,
placing it in his mouth and then his pocket. Prater has no answer for Takuri’s
explosiveness and cowers in the corner. Someone comes out and trips up Takuri
as Takuri was climbing the ropes. It’s Primeworks Offworks. Prater at first
seems please to see him, but quickly attacks. Looks like this has turned into a
three way match as everyone is fighting everyone else. Takuri and Prater are
fighting on the floor, Prime joins them. Back in the ring, everyone takes turns
trying to pin someone. Double submission on Prater. Chair shot backfires on
Prater. Prime sets the chair in between the turnbuckles and then double teams
Prater. Takuri dodges the chair and sends Prime out of the ring. Takuri and
Prater take turns trying to throw each other into the chair, Takuri finally succeeds.
Takuri jumps from the ring, landing on Prime and Prater and
rolls Prime back in. Takuri looking to fly, Prime rolls out of the way. They
start trading shots at each other. Prime is really flying around the ring and
manages to knock Takuri out of the ring. Prater sneaks in from behind and
knocks Prime out for the win at 12:01.
Prime has shown a great deal of improvement but needs to
change his name. All-around good match, nothing seemed forced and flowed well,
IMO. Prater can go up-tempo and you know Takuri can go.
5: Chris Del Ray vs. Luka Daniels.
A battle of the young lions here; Del Ray is the local
favorite here. Luka wants the crowd to cheer for him, they don’t. Luka teases
the tie up but slides out of the ring. Stalling tactics while the crowd is
letting him have it. Chicken chants abound. Luka finally gets in the ring and
Chris immediately attacks the arm. Luka gets some shots in, but Chris quickly
recovers and walks the top rope, arm dragging Luka. Luka on the floor, Chris
tries to dive but gets cut off.
Luka all over Chris, trying to get a quick pin. Sling blade
for a lazy cover. Luka slows things down, but that allows Chris to deliver a
Pele kick. Leg lariat from the second rope by Luka, very slow count from the
ref there. Chris lands a twisting splash onto Luka for the double down. They
come up swinging fists. Chris knocks Luka down and lands a moonsault for the
win at 10:43.
Good shit.
6: SVW Tag Championship match: The Left Hand Path (Eric
Silva and Trever Aeon) vs. The Nawfside Heroes (Shoota Gabe and Jose Manuel).
Big pop for the Nawfsiders, who come out wearing both the
SVW and ProSouth belts. Just the SVW belts will be on the line tonight. Silva
looks to be in great shape, his diet of steak seems to be paying off. Gabe
wants a test of strength, but trips up Silva instead. Gabe sweeps the legs and
ties up the arms of Silva. Double teams sends both LHP men to the floor.
Nawfside want to tope, but pull up when they see LHP move out of the way. LHP
confer with each other, that pays off after Silva kicks the legs out from Jose
and they are fighting out on the floor. Front face plant on the ring apron to
Jose. Double team sequence on Jose for a 2-count. Gothplex by Aeon leads to
another double team. Jose taking some big boy hits from Silva. Buckle suplex
for a near fall Silva and aeon go for a double team, Jose moves out of the way
and lands a double cutter and tags in Gabe. He goes off and sends LHP out onto
the floor and splashes down on them. Gabe hits a nice sequence on Aeon for a
near fall. Jose tags in, but Aeon was waiting for him, Jose, just manages to
get his foot onto the rope.
Everyone out on the floor, fighting. Ref Slim has lost
control and calls for the bell at 14:35. They are still fighting. GM Foley
steps in and makes a match a match for the next show, which will be a tornado
tag match.
What’s not to love about this match. Nawfside might look
small, but they have no problem punching anyone in the mouth, then tie up
whatever appendages are handy. LHP are either under valued or under respected.
Possibly both.
Main Event for the SVW Heavyweight Championship: Skrilla the
Great vs. Austin Towers (c).
Skrilla already holds multiple titles around the state and
would like to add his 4th SVW title to the display case. Towers has
held the SVW title for 3 years now, possibly the most dominant streak in
Georgia right now, possibly the SE as well. I’m sure I’ll hear about it later
on. (It’s 863 days). Towers grabs the mic from Beckner and does his own intro.
Don’t hurt your back bending over that far.
Skrilla using some quick strikes to avoid the heavy hands of
Towers, but gets tossed over the top rope. Towers follows and they fight out on
the floor. Skrilla goes on a date with a ring post and Towers rolls him back
into the ring. Omg! What an open hand chop from Towers onto the chest of
Skrilla. Towers teases a second one but rakes the eyes instead. Towers tries to
adjust the back of Skrilla with some kicks to the back.
Bear hug by Towers, Skrilla punches his way out, but towers
reapplies it. Bell claps break it and Skrilla lands to super kicks, but Towers
plants him when Skrilla rushes at him. Methodical attack on Skrilla. Skrilla
sitting on the top turn, kicks way and then lands a cutter/neckbreaker. Skrilla
dodges the Kobiya kick and lands a sling blade for a near fall. Skrilla wants a
cutter from the turnbuckle, Towers catches and plants him for a near fall. Towers
measure ups Skrilla for the Kobiya, Skrilla dodges, but Towers chokeslams him.
skrilla out and wants the cutter again. Another miss by both men but Skrilla
lands the cutter on the third attempt for a near fall.
Skrilla lands another springboard cutter for a near fall and
then applies a crossface. The crowd is urging him to tap but Towers uses his
strength to power out. Skrilla with
another cutter attempt, Kobiya kick to the back of the shoulders for a near
fall. Towers is upset with Ref Scotty and shoves him down and out. Towers grabs
a chair, bringing into the ring and slamming it down on the back of Skrilla. Another
shot to the back. Towers goes for a third shot, but Skrilla yam bags him. Chair
shots to Towers now. Towers grabs the chair, throws it away, and choke slams
Skrilla.
Towers with the chair, Ref Slim runs into the ring, grabbing
the chair. Slim and Towers argue. Skrilla hits a home run with the chair, but
Silva pulls the ref out. Aeon sneaks in and wants the kiss, kiss bang, bang.
Skrilla fights out of that and plants Aeon. Silva in the ring now but he gets
planted. Bottom rope has broke. Skrilla tries for a super kick; Towers blocks
it and Kobiya kicks Skrilla. Towers wants another chair. Towers wants a choke
slam Skrilla onto the chair, Skrilla switches it up and its Towers that hits
the chair with a DDT. Towers is bleeding. A 5th cutter. Towers grabs
Slims hand to prevent the hand coming down for the third time. Holy shit this
is intense.
Towers seems to be dead weight when Skrilla tries to pick
him up. Playing possum though and Towers locks in the Hell’s Gate choke hold. Skrilla
tries to roll Towers over enough for a pin attempt but he’s too weak to hold
and he passes out at 21:14. Still SVW Champion: Austin Towers.
LHP celebrate in the ring. GM Foley promises Towers a worthy opponent at
the next show in Greensboro on May 13th.
Final Thoughts:
That main has got to be in my top 5 matches that I’ve
seen so far this year, check it out when any video drops.
Pretty much every match had some inkling of a story line
going through them, especially if you’re a consistent watcher of SVW and know
the background.
The only issues you could say that I had with the show
was there wasn’t that much blood in the opener (for reasons, I’m sure) and the
time of the Machine/Mercer match.
The Liquid Nation Brewery building was fantastic: very
open setting, well lit, and good bathrooms. Looks like they are in an old,
renovated factory building. Official attendance was 150.
The crowd was humming along all night long and got even more vocal for the last couple of matches.
