BULLPEN PROFESSIONAL WRESTLING IS FOR REAL…
WHAT A NIGHT OF PROFESSIONAL WRESTLING!
July 20 was a night for the ages. This was my first “BULLPEN PROFESSIONAL WRESTLING” event, & I’m officially hooked. I verified with the ticket table that there were 505 paying fans in attendance. When you factor in the sponsors & the “wrestler’s + 1” crowd, the number was near 550 in the arena. This was the most fun I have had at a show in years. The crowd was hot from the moment the show started until the end of the main event. I spent much of the evening just being lost in being a fan.
The evening started at 5:30 with a “Meet ‘n’ Greet” with WWE Hall Of Famer RON SIMMONS (Class of 2012). Mr. Simmons was sporting his HOF ring & a t-shirt with a certain word of significance on it. He was still in great physical shape & seemed to genuinely enjoy interacting with the hundreds of fans in attendance.
The show kicked off with the BULLPEN CEO/President & WWE Legend Bull Buchanan welcoming the crowd and thanking the sponsors. Bull then asked Ron Simmons to join him in the ring. Simmons thanked the crowd for all their years of support. These two WWE Legends shared a brief handshake… until tragedy strikes. “The Superb Destroyer” made his way to the ring to address these two gentlemen in the ring. This was quite a site, as these were three huge monsters standing in the ring. The Destroyer told Bull that this was a disgrace to bring out the “so called legend” into his ring. The Destroyer said that Simmons did not have anything to say that was of any significance & he needed to go. Bull apologized to Simmons for the disgusting and disrespectful display by The Destroyer. As Simmons & Bull headed to exit the ring, The Destroyer attempted to spin Bull around (probably to go for a cheap shot), Bull dropped The Destroyer with the “shot heard round the arena.” I was seated several feet away from the ring, & I heard Bull’s right hand connect with The Destroyer’s jaw. It sounded like a bat hitting a baseball… If the bat were being swung by a 6’6” 270-pound member of the “Right to Censor.” The Destroyer was O.U.T Cold. Before Simmons exited the ring, he turned & stood over The Destroyer. He looked around the audience for a moment. Then he gave that crowd of 550 exactly what they wanted. He looked down and he exclaimed………. DAMN! (It was a legit couple of minutes before The Destroyer could actually get himself out of the ring.)
J.B. Elementary then came out to give a heartfelt promo about having been bullied all his life. J.B. Elementary’s words really landed with the audience. These were real emotions, & there were a lot of tears. A masked character named GEMINI was with him. They called out the local bully, Lamar Phillips. Gemini challenged Phillips to a fight, and he got what he asked for. Gemini was able to put up a good fight and hold his own, but Phillips took Gemini to the floor and dropped him chest first across the guardrails. Gemini folded in half. I am almost certain that I heard ribs shatter. Phillips defeated Gemini in the opening bout of the show.
Moving on to match #2… Frankie Valentine (w/ Tweety) defeated Dr. Love by pinfall. Dr. Love is a great new talent with a great look. Unfortunately, the experience of Valentine was just too much for the rookie to overcome. Valentine is a ring vet who has battled and beaten some of the best in Georgia.
Match #3 featured Tsu Nami squaring off with Traci Taylor. Taylor has aligned herself with Bad Company (David Young & Adam Jacobs), so there was no love for her. These two went toe to toe & exchanged some heavy-handed shots to the extent that I was exhausted by the time the bell rang. Tracy Taylor came out the victor in this phenomenal ladies’ match.
Match #4 saw Luka Daniels enter the ring with another masked man. Mr. B was a familiar looking character (from the neck down). Mr. B’s presence brought out CEO & President Bull Buchanan. Bull intended to put a stop to this before it even started but decided to let this match become a tag team match. Knowing Mr. B’s real identity, Bull also decided to put a $500 bounty on the mask of Mr. B. Anyone employed by BULLPEN PRO WRESTLING will collect five Benjamins if they bring the mask of Mr. B to Buchanan. Mr. B & Daniels faced off against Eddie Honcho & J-Rod. This match would prove to be problematic for Mr. B. J-Rod got the pin on Mr. B after Honcho hit a Bonsai Drop. After the match, Mr. B’s own partner attempted to collect the $500 bounty. Mr. B will need to live with one eye open if he plans to stay around BULLPEN PRO WRESTLING.
The Grapplers (#1 & & #2) and The Standard (Jaden Vain & AJ Black) could not wait for intermission to end to get their match started. These two teams actually started their fight outside the dressing room area. It then spilled into the dressing room used by the “fan favorites” and eventually they found themselves ringside in the show. Once the match actually started, these guys had been fighting for 10 minutes. The Standard came out victorious, but the Grapplers would have something in store for them later.
Match # 6 was for the BULL PEN PRO T.V. TITLE. Champion Sean Nelson retained his title against “The Shooter” Zack Buchanan. The match was a very hard-hitting event. Buchanan had the title within his grasp… until The Destroyer was seen heading to ringside. The Destroyer simply pulled Buchanan’s feet & caused Buchanan to faceplant into the center of the ring. The Destroyer quickly ducked under part of the ring to avoid the referee seeing him. As Buchanan got us and went after The Destroyer, Nelson was able to catch him with his finishing move and secure the 1, 2, 3. The crowd loves Buchanan, & they erupted when The Destroyer cost him the BULL PEN PRO T.V. TITLE.
Match # 7 (The Main Event) cast Alexander Lev against Judias. Judias was wielding his chain, and Lev wanted no part of it. Judias was dominant for most of this match. The Grapplers made their way to the corner of Lev, for moral support – I am sure. Within seconds of their appearance, The Standard met them at ringside, & the brawl continued on the floor. In the ring, Judias hooked Lev for the Crucifijo, but The Destroyer appeared on the apron. Judias threw Lev to the side and headed for The Destroyer. As the Destroyer jumped from the apron to the floor, Zack Buchanan was standing there to meet him. On the floor, The Standard & the Grapplers are toe to toe, & The Destroyer & Buchanan are trading shots. In the ring, Lev darts toward Judias (who sidestepped him & sent him over the top rope to the floor. Judias follows him out. By this point, pandemonium has broken loose, & both locker rooms have emptied. The Destroyer throws Buchanan in the ring & blisters him with shots to the turnbuckle. Buchanan hits a superkick & clotheslines The Destroyer back out over the top rope. There are fights happening all over the floor & the crow is going wild. They loved every second of this slugfest. The heroes are left standing tall when it was over, but what a fun ride to get there.
This promotion is firing on all cylinders. I did a little homework on them. Their first show on June 8 drew about 426 fans. June 22 drew 451 fans, and tonight set them over the 500 mark. The stories are so good & the lines between entertainment & reality are non-existent. I spoke with Bull as the show closed and he allowed me to hang out at the locker room exit doors. I wanted to try to interview some of the talent as they left the arena. I got to talk to a couple of the wrestlers & they all said the same thing. This promotion is like nothing they have ever experienced before. It is professional wrestling show. However, the action is more like a brawl or fight than anything most have ever experienced.
BULL PEN is not a Professional Wrestling “show.” BULL PEN is a Professional Wrestling EXPERIENCE. I wish I had a bigger vocabulary, & I wish I could articulate what I experienced better. All I can say is that this is a show that is well worth the drive. The Colosseum at Bowdon High School hosts BULLPEN PRO WRESTLING, & they will return on August 10th. The bell time is 7:30, but I would get there when the doors open at 6:30.
Oh & did I mention….. August 10th will feature ECW & WWE Legend D-VON DUDLEY?
On August 10th at Bowden High, all I can say is…………. “Get the Tables!”
