From Curt Morgan:
The official ticket sales count was 372 for BULLPEN PRO WRESTLING on Saturday night. The actual headcount “in attendance” was closer to 425 for this show. Another hot crowd at Ranburne High School on Saturday night.
The crowd saw the in-ring debut of the tag team of Ethan & Aaron Dallas, newcomer Jacob Ashworth captured the BULLPEN TV Title, Pat Roach made his BULLPEN PRO debut in a catch wrestling match with local favorite Zack Buchanan, Judias left a path of destruction that went through the Super Destroyer (Pun Intended), Kyle Matthews & Frankie Valentine put on a cruiserweight clinic, & the inaugural BULLPEN PRO TAG TEAM CHAMPIONS were bested by Bad Company in a title match main event.
Also, BULLPEN PRO WRESTLING now has a YouTube Channel… so subscribe and see for yourself.
MATCH 1 The Wonder Boyz (Aaron & Ethan Dallas) defeated Dante Diamond & Lamar Phillips. Ethan hit a 450 splash from the top rope to pin Diamond. After the match, Phillips laid out Diamond & Diamond’s Manager had a heart attack… or possibly a stroke… or some type of elderly health related incident. He is like a thousand years old, so you have to expect that these types of events are going to happen. To add to the mix, a fan jumped in the ring and mounted a ground & pound attack on Diamond. The “fan” turned out to be Frankie Valentine. This match kicked the showoff with a bang.
MATCH 2 Zack Buchannan pinned Pat Roach (w/ The Superb “Canadian” Destroyer). This was grappler’s style “Catch” match. Roach put Buchannan in some really nice grappling predicaments, but Zack had an answer for them all. Post match, The Superb Canadian Destroyer placed Zack in the Claw & had him close to unconscious…. When Judias hit the ring and cleaned house. I don’t know if the Ranburn crowd really appreciated the grappling clinic that they were seeing, but the pure wrestling fans were getting more than their money’s worth. This was an instant classic in my books.
MATCH 3 Judias defeated The Superb Canadian Destroyer by DQ. The Destroyer was pissed. He attacked Judias before the bell & he beat Judias from pillar to post. I have never seen Judias get manhandled like this. The Destroyer threw Judias over the guard rail, into the bleachers, through multiple rows of chairs & into a concrete wall. When Judias was rolled back into the ring…. The bell ran for the match to begin. The was mayhem on a new level. I did not think Judias had anything left when The Claw got slapped on him. As he started to fade, the crowd was at a fever pitch. Judias fought back & hit The Destroyer with some big shots. Those led to a clothesline/ big boot in the buckle & finished off with a chokeslam. Judias took the Destroyer up – up – up for that choke slam. The crowd felt the Spear was eminent… which is why Roach grabbed both of Judias’ legs & pulled into the ring post. This caused the DQ, but left Judias on the mat, Buchanan returned the favor & returned to even the score. Buchanan set The Destroyer over the top rope with a clothesline & set his sights on Roach. As The Destroyer slid in for one last shot at Buchannan… Judias speared him out of his boots. As aggressive as The Destroyer was at the match’s beginning, Judias was equally as mad at the end. The locker room emptied and tried to get Judias off The Destroyer & Buchanan off Roach. (After the show, I was able to catch The Superb Canadian Destroyer in the locker room. I told him that this match was like watching Brody & Abdullah brawl. He said, “I guess so…. Wait… Does that make me Abdullah?” I said, “Well… I guess so.” Then he told me to get out of his dressing room. I didn’t argue.)
MATCH 4 (BULLPEN TV TITLE & LANDMARK HERITAGE MATCH – Winner take all) Jacob Ashworth (c) defeated Sean Nelson (c) & J-Rod in a triple threat match to win the TV Title. Nelson was out classed & outmatched in this one. J-Rod brought an offensive house of fire & Ashworth goes about 6’4” & 260 lbs, Nelson hit the slowest sunset flip sit out powerbomb I have ever seen. Nelson’s best bet would have been to call into work sick on Saturday night. His offense couldn’t slow down these two challengers. The champion evaded several attempts to be cornered by the two challengers, but once he was caught… it was a buffet of bumps for the champion. J-Rod hit a high knee – neck breaker combo, & Ashworth hit a couple of sidewalk slams on Nelson. The two fan favorites got into an exchange that almost led J-Rod to pick up a win for both championships. Ashworth picked up the win with a Schoolboy - O’Conner combo roll up.
MATCH 5 (Best of 3 series for the BULLPEN LIGHT HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPIONSHIP) In Match 1 of the 3 series, Kyle Matthews defeated Frankie Valentine. This was the match of the night. These two vets have faced off in dozens & dozens of matches over the last twenty years. This was a classic match between these two. If I had to sum up this match in one word… it would be: moonsaults – no – superkicks – no - neck breakers – no - dropkicks – no – chops… It would definitely be CHOPS. These two sling chops like no one else. Matthews picked up the win when he rolled through a cross body block. However…. Announcer Rick Page called Frankie Valentine the winner. It was a mistake that was quickly corrected.
MATCH 6 (BULLPEN TAG TEAM CHAMPIONSHIP MATCH) Bad Company defeated The Standard & Gemini / Lambo (c) for the Tag Team Championships. In this triple threat tag match, most of the contest was fought between Bad Company & The Standard. Gemini / Lambo were isolated to their corner until the final moment of the match. This was a classic battle of the ring vets versus the newcomers. The Standard were prepared to combat most of the tactics of Bad Company, but they accidentally allowed Lambo to tag in for his team. He came in & was unable to get the job done. Gemini tagged himself in and was quickly met with a Spine Buster by David Young for the 1, 2, 3. What a great show.
