A couple of weeks ago, I wrote that ProSouth had taken this thing with the Alabama Athletic Commission about as far as it go. Once again, ProSouth has proven me wrong. This week's show was presented by AAC representative and devil incarnate Patrick Gilbert. The AAC emblem was all over the show. Gilbert is building his own faction.
Something was going on with Aaron Dallas, the likes of which had never been seen before. It appears the former ProSouth Champion Aaron Dallas fell under Gilbert's evil spell and got screwed. ProSouth can be a dark, murky place.
We saw a man drink urine on live television (see photo at bottom of story).
Christian Pierce and Ayden Andrews had another explosive confrontation. They're bringing a sense of realism to a show where the main story is a satirical trip to fantasy land. The wrestling was a several cuts above last week's show. Brother Azriel vs. AJ Black, Donnie Primetime vs. Julius Pryor and Dallas vs. Ooten were all quality matches.
Mathias Darkthorne and Wicked Nemesis were on commentary except when Gilbert took Wicked's spot for the main event. Jeremy Blackson, Joseph Void and Kevin Tubbs were the referees. Cory Shattles was the ring announcer.
Chosen Ones (Ace Haven & Cameron Keast) couldn't get the mic to work. They had to stand on live TV putting new batteries in. Keast said freedom was sweet. He'd spent months wondering if he would ever get a chance to be in the ring with his friend. But with freedom comes responsibility. He was coming at Caeden Ooten and the ProSouth Championship full force. After being in ProSouth for eight years, he had his first opportunity to main event the Anniversary show. "To Team Ace: thank you from the bottom of my heart and I owe you one. To every member of Team Harley: I owe you one (as his fireball fizzled).
A pitch perfect babyface promo from Cam. If only that fireball would have worked.
A single piano key repeated ad infinitum signaled the entrance of Patrick Gilbert the start of the "PG Era". The crowd was chanting "please shut up" before Gilbert was even joined Ace and Cam in the ring. The three of them had to share one mic. Gilbert lecturing Keast about his need to detach from Ace. This was a setup for a sight gag where Ace got on his hands and knees behind Gilbert so Keast could push PG down.
Gilbert said he was going to have them urine tested. Ace played dumb and said he's been with the same woman for 15 years and Keast was practically celebate. Keast called it a drought. Ace said the last time was five years ago with a former (female) ProSouth Champion. Gilbert said they were being tested for PEDs. This Ace found hysterically funny. Ace said Gilbert was screwed. Cam accused Ace of being on juice to get back at him for the celibacy remark. They got into a thing about who was going to leave the ring as a way to get out of the segment.
A lot of sophomoric humor here. It played well to the crowd which seemed to be mostly kids tonight. Ace and Cam were entertained. The viewers on the livestream I'm not so sure about.
(1) Brandon Whatley defeated "Kid Icon" Ethan Dallas via referee stoppage in 5:58. Whatley rocked Ethan's world with a stiff right hand at the opening bell. Ethan gamely fought on but Whatley was beating him to a pulp. Ethan launched a full-fledged comeback leading to a shooting star press for a near fall. Ethan's crash and burn moonsault attempt spelled doom. Whatley had Ethan pinned with the scissors kick but pulled his victim up at the count of two. Whatley planted Ethan with the Bottomless Pit and sent him to lala land with the cobra clutch.
The cold-blooded killer version of Whatley that became the ProSouth Champion was back in full effect. Ethan takes a great beating but his offense looks light.
(2) Brother Azriel defeated AJ Black to retain the All-Out Championship in 7:44. Az plowed right through a shoulder block. Black just bounced off of him. Black nicely turned a test of strength into a top wristlock. Az said enough of that shit. Black was in for a pounding and the latest edition of Azriel's high-impact hit parade. Black targeted Az's vulnerable left knee with a vengeance. Black lined Az up for a missile dropkick. Az nonchalantly walked away from it. He leveled Black with a lariat. Would have pinned him if not for Black's foot on the ropes. Black raked the eyes in desperation. Azriel said sayonora with the Wood Grain.
Good match. Az is the workhorse champion and he's wrestling with confidence. The walkaway spot was gold. Black is thriving at ProSouth. He's filling the void of new talent, especially Georgia talent.
Cut to Ace and Cam outside the bathroom with their urine samples. Cam had an idea. The audio was so piss poor as to make the dialogue unintelligible.
(3) Ayden Andrews & Tsunami (with Douglas Sanders) defeated "Lord of Bling" Roma Miller & Joe Wood in 7:42. Andrews foiled Wood's Woodchipper attempt on Tsunami. Andrews and Wood did battle until Andrews hit Stamp of Atonement. Christian Pierce chose that moment to make a beeline for Andrews and chase him out of the building. Miller hit a northern famouser on Tsunami. Sanders jumped up yelling at Void to stop the match. Roma went after Sanders. Loudmouth clocked Roma with his megaphone and his fiancee pinned him with her spinning neckbreaker.Ugly match. There were a couple spots where somebody could have got hurt bad. Wood is a purveyor of perverse wrestling entertainment. He's getting better but he's definitely not a natural.
Postmatch, Andrews and Pierce returned and got into one hell of a brawl. Pierce clotheslined Andrews over the top rope. Refs stepped in to hold Andrews back from getting back in the ring.
Pierce said Andrews screwed up when he had that noose around his neck because he didn't take the last ounce of breath out of Christian Pierce. Now he was going to make Ayden's life miserable every Friday night and he wouldn't stop until he had Andrews was hanging lifeless over the ropes.
Andrews and Pierce saved the segment. These men are making the feeling of menace palpable.
Gilbert came to the ring with an envelope and called out Jake Franklin. Wicked said Gilbert was the only person he knew where his back pockets actually touched. Gilbert said Franklin's only option was to accept the AAC's offer. Just like last week, Franklin said he wasn't the guy Gilbert was looking for and ripped up the envelope. Tsunami and Sanders attacked Franklin and laid him out. Gilbert got into the act with a face wash. Sanders had an envelope.
(4) Julius Pryor defeated Donnie Primetime in 9:45. Whatley pulled up a chair to watch but never got involved. Mutual disrespect in the opening minute. Donnie got on roll with a chop off the top and the Hot Line Bling elbow drop. Pryor took a TO for words of encouragement from the Grandmaster and got bowled over by a tope suicida. Primetime turned his attention to Whatley. Pryor capitalized on Donnie's loss of focus and let loose with a torrent of strikes. Pryor muscled Primetime into position for a Canadian backbreaker drop. Pryor went back to the strikes and a spinning fireman's carry slam. Pryor was thinking Shaolin fists. Primetime cut Pryor off and hit a superplex. Both down and Donnie's comeback was on. Primetime tried to end it with the package piledriver. Pryor wasn't having it. Primetime dropped Pryor with a superkick right on the button.
Good match. Loved the way Primetime put Pryor over. Pryor's ability to cleanly execute strength moves at his size makes him special. Where does Primetime stand? He was pure babyface here but last week had an envelope.
(5) Caeden Ooten (with Harley Haven) defeated AD (Aaron Dallas) to retain the ProSouth Championship in 7:03. Gilbert was munching on potato chips as he did commentary with Darkthorne. AD was dressed in black and wearing evil clown facepaint. Ooten looked at AD quizically. They started throwing bombs. AD showed a vicious streak seen in the Blue Collar Rockstar. Spinebuster on the floor. Ooten with a sprinboard punch covering with a sense of urgency. AD kicked out at one. Ooten's offense seemed to have little to no effect. He speared AD for another one count. AD sat up shaking his head. A spudfest broke out. AD was unfazed by Ooten's pop up punch and gave him a superhuman chokeslam for a close near fall. Harley got on the apron with a face full of green mist for AD. He didn't even flinch. He hit the Steel Toe but Ooten kicked out. AD said "that wasn't the deal" as he complained to the ref and Sleazy C rolled him up.
Strange, surreal and intriguing. The emergence of another side to Aaron Dallas' character has been a long time coming. Who knew this is the form it would take?
Four hooded figures subdued AD and dragged him through the entranceway.
Nobody loves abductions like ProSouth loves abductions.
The urine test results are in...The unexpected appearance of Amy Haven got the loudest pop of the night. She said we're not doing it. She had been on the phone with Gilbert's boss at the AAC John Parris. Gilbert said oh yes we are and put his hands on Amy. That brought Ace and Cam came to the ring. Ace said no hands would be put on anybody. Ace said his sample was off color because he was dehydrated. Gilbert didn't buy it and poisoned himself by attempting by taste-test the sample. Cam poured his sample on Gilbert's head.
There's no accounting for taste.
