By Rob Brodhecker:
After nearly a month off, NTW's Monday Night Riot makes it's return with a very talented (and with a big payroll) show with Matt Riddle, Shoot Taylor, Krule, Alex Kane, Effy, and a ton more shown on the poster. Also, looks like 3 more boxing matches featuring some more talent from Now That's TV shows. Bell time listed for 8pm, and I'll be typing along with the action, giving my reactions and thoughts as the show progresses.
Stream starts at 8:31 mid-match of Nawside and Dark Passion.
1. RIPW Tag Team Championship: The Nawfside Heroes (Shoota Gabe and Jose Manuel) (c) vs. Dark Passion Assassins (Dante Darko and Neji Ichiban with Stella).
and the stream went back to the street, and then back to the ring announcer announcing the Dark Passion Assassins as the new RIPW tag champs. I'm sure it was a banger, will have to catch the replay at a later time.
It looks like Jeff Jobs doing the ring announcing and he sends things to a "brief 10-minute intermission". alllllrighty then. Referees are Darryl Hall and Dana Goodman. Commentary team is Don Miguel and I believe Mike Fullilove.
Backstage interview set up with Big Liddy? asking Trez Sane and Aron Kash questions. Both are twinkilcious, just sayin. Camera cuts to Matt Griffin and Hunter Young outside talking, no sound there. Red Escalade pulls up and and it's Mr. RE himself coming out and he and Griffin have a convo and a photo op. They sit in some padded chairs, still conversing, no sound coming through, someone hands Griffin a mic. Tha Wall Shows up, along with Zicky Dice, they start throwing punches with Hunter Yound and security, while the crowd around them scatters. A match is made for later on.
2. No DQ, 10-minute time limit for the RIPW Championship: Trever Aeon vs. "Superstar" Jay Lucas (c)
Good entrance video for Aeon, brief stream skip, but it looked like Silva and Towers of the LHP escorted him to the ring and left. Lucas and RE exchange some words. Lucas is toting 3 belts. Interesting stips for this match, let's see how they play out. Darryl Hall is the ref for the match. Aeon lures Lucas into making a mistake with a leap over the top rope. pin attempt on the floor by Aeon. I can't identify who the commentary team is, I do know neither of them are Tyreke. In the ring, Aeon with a Gothplex for a 2-count; it's been mostly Aeon thus far in the match. Lucas making a comeback and has Aeon in trouble and Silva and Towers comes out and attack Lucas. Dark Passion Assassins run out for the rescue, everyone hitting everyone else; match continues. After all all that, Lucas plants Aeon with the JayDriller for the win.
Good match, you had to know shenanigans would be happening. Lucas with more words for RE.
3. Boxing match. 3 rounds featuring the stars of NTTV: Aron Kash vs. Trez Sane.
RE is the official for all the boxing matches; he gets booed from the crowd as he runs down the crowd. Anyway, back to the twink fight. They are really going after each other; these are actual fights. A good first round, I give it to Sane. Kash comes out swinging, almost turns into an MMA fight. Knockdown by Sane, Kash up by 6. Both guys are gassed, but Kash is worst for it. Standing count on Kash, RE calls it. Traz Sane wins the match.
Nice. Also, nicely done Jeff.
Backstage interview with Matt Riddle, then Becca. Her opponent, Jaz didn't show, might be an open challenge.
4. Intergender match: Kaylia Capri vs. GCW Champion, Effy.
Kicking off Pride month with Elton's Goodbye Yellow brick Road is always good. Capri has a belt herself, not sure which title. (All Caribbean) Did Deity join the announce team for the match? She did. Bad camera switch there, mr. director. Effy more on the heelish side here. Mostly Effy going on, but Capri gets in a flapjack to turn things around and gets some offense in, but Effy gets the win while holding onto the ropes. Capri gets some revenge after the match and sends Effy scurrying to the back.
Backstage with Liddy with Tori and Pressure. Good trash talking.
5. Shoot Taylor vs. Terry Yaki.
Different entrance music for Taylor than what I remember. Hunter Young joins the commentary team. being a heel. The action is fast and furious, no way to type it out. Time limit expired as Yaki was pinning Taylor, the match is a draw. Ain't nobody happy with that. Yaki and the crowd want 5 more minutes, Taylor nut jobs Yaki and leaves.
6. Boxing Match: Torrie vs. Pressure.
The only thing missing from the title of the Broadway song is Blonde. Torrie has the weight advantage, similar heights between the two. Slow, feeling out for the first minute, then a brief flurry of fists. first round; even. Still slow to start the second, Torrie gets some punches in, so she wins the second round. RE tells the ladies to start fighting, the crowd wants someone to get fucked up. Torrie is bringing it, backing up Pressure, standing count on Pressure. Pressure fought back, but gets another count. End of the third. I think Torrie wins the match and the crowd agrees with me.
7. 4-way match, 10 minute time limit: The Wall vs. Eddie Hendrix vs. Lamar Diggs vs. Zicky Dice.
This was set up earlier, thought it would be a tag, but no. The big meaty men part of the night. The action quickly heads to the floor, everyone attacking each other. Tower of Doom spot, surprised the ring didn't break. We did feel the slam in Florida. Shoot Taylor's joined the commentary team. Diggs with a top rope splash, but Dice throws him out of the ring and steals the cover on Hendrix for the win.
Backstage, Liddy intros someone to face Becca.
8: Prolific Moses vs. Krule.
Another big men match, I ain't mad. No respect for Ref Hall. Let them fight, man. Krule wins with a Scorched Earth. I enjoyed it.
Main Event: The Suplex Assassin, Alex Kane vs. The King of Bros and MLW Champion, Matt Riddle.
Riddle going for submissions early and often, Kane going for more power moves. I wouldn't mind getting wrapped up by Riddle.... what? Riddle and Shoot Taylor have an exchange, maybe something down the line? Riddle landing loads of moves but can't put Kane away. Suicide dive by Kane and he starts suplexing Riddle all over the place. Kane's straps come down, suplex, gets a two count. Riddle landing more moves and goes up top, Kane meets him up there. Kane with a German from the top rope, but it takes a lot out and he can't cover. Hakeem Young attacks Kane from behind while Goodman was checking on Riddle. Riddle pins Kane from there. That stunk. Young and Griffin celebrate in the entryway. Riddle didn't know about the interference. Kane calls them Ho's. Kane tells Young he's next and that's on Bomaye. He also wants RE to ban Griffin from being ringside at the next show, RE agrees.
Bonus Boxing match: Becca vs. ?
I'm sorry, I just couldn't hear the other lady's name. Ivory? Yup.
Becca getting hit early and gets knocked down but continues. Becca gets knocked down again, and is saved by the bell. Ivory all over Becca, she can't do anything. Standing count from RE, Becca continues. RE needs to call this and finally does. Winner: Ivory.
Final thoughts.
The sound is better, though I couldn't hear the commentary team while the music was playing.
Miguel and Fullilove did a good job.
Jobs with some jabs of his own.
A better product overall. There's always room for improvement, no matter what promotion, and they are taking steps.
