From Larry Goodman:
The Hyatt Centennial Ballroom was packed with a multitude of cosplayers for another trip to pro wrestling fantasy land on night one of the annual Dragon Con extravaganza.
This was year three of a storyline involving evil money grubbing entrepreneur Scott E. Crampton's takeover of DCW. The plotline was a lot more involved and the writing cleverly played to the juvenile sensibilities of the hardcore DCW fans.
David Young has never been more over in his career than he was during this show. The dick twisting gimmick Young started a few years back has taken on a life of its own and was the theme of the night.
The talent always has a great time doing the DCW shows but best to go on early. As the often been true, the first 90 minutes was exhilarating, the last hour not quite as much.
Penta and Hulk Hogan were the most popular wrestler character among the cosplayers this year. Jon Moxley, Timeless Toni Storm, Dudley Boys, The Godfather and there's always a Randy Savage and Roddy Piper in the crowd.
Pre-show: Tete (Tracy Taylor) defeated Tsunami and Douglas Sanders in the domestic violence special. This was a carry over from last year's Dragon Con and it was perversely entertaining. Mother and daughter made a fool out of daughter's boyfriend. They pulled Sanders' shirt over his head and beat him up but did not comply with the "twist his dick" chant. Tete surfed on Sanders for a three count while simultaneously brawling with Tsunami.
The show opened with the Crampton's Conglomerate (US Champion CT Keys, Tag Team Cup holders Washington Bullets and Slim J) and the Fooligans heel fan group making their way down the aisle.
Crampton said it looked like he was at a cosplay by Temu convention and announced the DCW had its first sponsorship. A Ticketmaster logo appeared on the giant screens (the production values on this show are absolutely stellar). Ticketmaster was personified by WildKat (New Orleans) wrestler Mickey Drama. Crampton was thrilled to announce that DCW would now be charging convenience fees. That got nuclear heat.
Two dudes introduced as JV high school wrestlers started wrestling amateur style. The crowd was losing their shit at this point.
Michael Mosley, David Young and DCW Champion Cb Suave (cosplaying Hulk Hogan) and Kim Dockery (wife of former owner AJ Dockery) called a halt to the nonsense. Young said he he had it on good authority that Crampton had Smallcox.
Crampton said the winner of a battle royal would get a shot at Suave and he wasn't saying who was in it.
Mosley told Scott "Tampon" that Mama Kim still owned 50% of DCW so she still had sway. Therefore, Keys would have to defend the US title in a fatal five way...
(1) Nick Halen defeated CT Keys and Bobby Moore and Stunt Marshall and Skrilla the Great to win the US Championship (8 minutes). The heat was unreal. Halen and Moore came out at Hart Foundation with Harley Kae playing Jimmy Hart. Marshall was wearing his Slap Fight gear and they played off his knockout that went viral. With the help of Jimmy's distraction with the megaphone, Halen and Moore delivered a round of Hart Attacks. Stunt slapped the shit out of everybody. Halen was the final victim. He fell on top of Skrilla for the three count.
(2) Slime Szn (Buk Dao cosplaying as Pikichu) & J. Spade (as Ash Ketchum) defeated Rob Killjoy & Cam Jackson (13 minutes). The atmosphere for the Pokemon gimmick was madness. Sime Szn got over great last year and did so again. The people geeked out for Pikichu. He got beaten down and carried to back. Two poke balls were thrown to summon Dao as Jigglypuff. He sang and put everyone in the ring asleep. Jigglypuff had to revive referee Darry Hall. A poke ball was brought into play.
Ash Ketchum threw the poke ball out a side door to summon a giant Snorlax. Snorlax smothered Jackson and Jigglypuff pinned Killjoy after a Slime Szn double team.
Guest GM Teddy Long came to the ring with the lovely India for some "holla, holla, holla) action and to introduce the first every DCW Women's title match.
(3) Crystal Rose (with Chayn Male) defeated Jazzy Yang to become the inaugural DCW Women's Champion (9 minutes). Crowd settled in and was a little less crazed. Chayn Male cheated. Rose heeled and got a "twist her dick" chant. The ref got bumped. Jimmy Wang Yang entered to a big pop with a low blow for Crystal. The crowd bit on Yang's cutter as the finish. It was not to be. Rose pinned Yang with feet on the ropes.
Crampton called out "the master of the twist his dick" David Young. Crampton said if Young got thrown out of the battle royal he was fired and offered $5000 to the wrestler that threw Young out.
Young's double dick twist on Washington Bullets got a "DCW" chant. Young and Superman stood tall. Young twisted Superman's dick and tossed him out for the apparent win. But Slim J was Young's Kryptonite. He sneaked in and dumped Young over the top rope.
(5) Washington Bullets (Jon & Trey Washington) defeated Rob Adonis & Tyler Stevens to retain the DCW Tag Team Cup (9 minutes). This was a good wrestling match but also where the crowd lost some steam. Jon pulled the ref out of the ring to save Trey. The Bullets hit signature backstabber/cutter combo to beat Adonis.
Crampton came to the ring with Ticketmaster and called out Mike Mosley because Mosley had something of his, namely the Cash in Hand title. Mosley, a legendary DCW cosplayer, came out as Snow Miser. Mosley said he heard his name on Crampton's dirty, crusty lips and there were two things he gave a man, advice and an ass whipping. Crampton said he was Finnish-American and the Finns invented the lucha mask. He put a mask on.
(6) Scott E. Crampton (with Mickey Drama) defeated Mike Mosley to regain the Cash In Hand title in 1:43. Crampton ran away and was replaced by Drama as a second masked luchador. Mosley dispatched him. A third masked man gave Mosley a codebreaker and Crampton pinned him. Crowd was pissed.
(7) Mosley defeated "Ticketmaster" Mickey Drama (with Crampton) (3 minutes) Ticketmaster was treating Mosley like Stubhub but Mosley rallied and pinned him with a cutter. The crowd celebrated no fees ever. We can always wish.
(8) Throw in the Towel: Cb Suave (as Hulk Hogan with Gil Quest) defeated Slim J (with Scott E. Crampton) to retain the DCW Championship (13 minutes). Teddy Long told crooked actor/referee AJ Dwayne to get to stepping and called in Superman as the special referee to save the universe.
They had the best pro wrestling match of the show. Slim hit the 3-6 Mafia Kick and three frogsplashes on Suave. Quest almost threw the towel in. Suave hulked up. Slim locked Suave in a submission. David Young came to ringside and twisted Crampton's dick and Crampton threw in the towel. The crowd loved seeing Crampton get his just desert.
NOTES: Commentator and Lord Michael Gentry was inducted into the DCW Hall of Fame in a backstage ceremony before the show...Sammy Kiss was Gentry's partner on commentary...Dan Wenzel was the ring announcer...The officials were Darry Hall, David Weakley and new ref whose name I did not catch... Nemesis was hawking his coveted Dragon Con t-shirts commemorating the event. Spotted in the crowd: Maestro, Marko Polo, Jonathan Williams, Sean Sims, Michael Cajuste and Audrey Allen.
