The unthinkable happened. CEW's white meat babyface supreme Michael Walker turned out to be the mystery star of the VHS tape, became the new CEW Champion and kissed the ring of "Boss Daddy" Simon Sermon.
In an scandalous conclusion to the tables match, Dax Anthony got put through a table by Bryce Cannon but Anthony still won the match.
The Allen brothers defeated Good Hand (minus Suge D) to earn a Tag Turmoil title shot at Deal with the Daddy this Saturday night in Savannah at the VFW 660 Canteen & Grill.
The CEW heroes took a major hit. Not only did Hunter James lose the CEW Championshp, all three members of Exotic Youth went down to defeat Cornelius Pepperbottom was put on the shelf for an undetermined amount of time, at least through the end of the baseball season. Can they redeem themselves at Deal with the Daddy?
This show was jam packed with action. James vs. Walker was one of CEW's best matches of the year. They nailed the match times and the finishes. The matches that needed time got it. Nothing overstayed its welcome and the crowd stayed hot for everything. I loved how creative booked clean finishes everywhere possible and saved the screwball finishes for the key stories.
Brandon Benefield and Maestro were in the groove on commentary. It took them a bit of time to find their rhythm as a two man team upon Bryce Cannon's return to the ring. This was their best work to date. Diana Michel was a barefoot ring announcer by the time the main event rolled around. One of her shoes broke. Clark DeBennedeto and John Ellington were the referees. If DeBennedeto doesn't win the Rookie of the Year award, the voting is rigged.
(1) VHS Tape on a Pole: Simon Sermon (with Sheriff Scratch) vs. Chad Sky Walker was a no decision at 13:16. Match was just the way it should have been -- violent, obscene, brawling outside the ring and trying to scale the pole for the tape, very little wrestling in the ring. At one point, secret agent Chad put a fake gun into the mouth of the Boss Daddy PI. Sky Walker has inhabited the secret agent role and his character work has been tremendous throughout this story.
This was Sermon's CEW singles match opus. He did a timeless old style knee drop and took a backdrop on the concrete. I was lol at Maestro's reference to Simon's chops as "sumoesque".
As Sky Walker climbed for the VHS, Sermon caught up with him and both men crash landed on the mat. Scratch appeared to offer Skywalker a duffle bag containing a change of gloves. WTF? Benefied said Sky Walker didn't want to leave any fingerprints. Simon and Sky Walker struggled for possession of the tape. The VHS fell to the mat. Scratch picked it up. RAndall Reno snatched the VHS from Scratch and ran out the side door like a bat out of hell with Scratch chasing after him.
Sweet. The reveal was teased in the opening match and not paid off until the end of the night.
In a pre-tape outside the building, two of CEW's rising aces, Jay Alpha Miller and Tommy Mars went nose-to-nose to set up a match later in the evening. Miller did not take kindly to Mars nutting up and accusing him of taking out Mars' Supastarz partners.
(2) Hakeem Young "defeated" Cornelius Pepperbottom to retain the CEW Chaos Championship in 18:27. All heart Pepps vs tough human Hakeem. God damn Hakeem gets heat. Pepps is so over it's ridiculous. Some, um, interesting crowd interaction with older women here. Pepps was handing Hakeem his ass and then it was sell, sell, sell by Pepps. Hakeem brought his infamous chair into the ring. Pepps gave Hakeem a Famouser on the chair and pinned him at 15:04. And the crowd went wild...
Pepps celebrated his hard-fought title win...and got is guts speared out of him by Young. Hakeem crushed Pepperbottom's skull with a conchairto. Sermon claimed Pepps illegally used the chair and ordered referee Ellington to restart the match. Hakeem put one foot on Pepperbottom's chest and did the Hulk Hogan posing routine. Brandon Benefield is world class at doing commentator outrage.
(3) Ameera Roze defeated Leah Knight via submission to become the number one contender for the IWE Women's Championship in 10:43. These women showed out. Impressive performances by both. Roze made Knight tap to an armbar. Knight got over bigtime in a losing effort.
(4) Tommy Mars defeated Jay Alpha Miller in 7:51. Miller channeling Booker T, while Mars was completely out of his skull. Loved the sheer aggressiveness and the illusion of athletic competition par excellence. Mars escaped the Second Amendment. Teflon kicked out of Ticket to Mars. Mars almost put Miller to sleep. Miller fought off the slumber and Mars decapitated him with a lariat to score the pinfall.
(5) CT Keys defeated Zach Mosley in 5:58. Mosley put the former CEW Champion over in style. Keys pinned Zach clean with an F5.
(6) Dax Anthony defeated Bryce Cannon in a tables match (12:26). They love their violence in Savannah. This was a fight. The crowd "chanted one more time" as the much reviled Anthony was banging babyface Bryce's head on the ring apron. Dax teased a powerbomb through the table at ringside. Cannon escaped. DeBennedeto got knocked out of the ring. Anthony capitalized with a pair of Curtain's Down TKO's. Cannon turned the tables on Anthony and speared him through a table propped up in the corner.
DeBennedeto was still down and didn't see it. Maestro came to ringside to revive DeBennedeto. Anthony gave Cannon a third Curtains Down and put the table remnants on top of Cannon and that's what DeBennedeto saw when he got up.
(7) Kevin Kantrell defeated Christian Taylor via submission in 6:21. Kantrell picked up the win with the Kantrell rules crossface. Kantrell stayed hot on the trail of the Chaos Championship.
(8) Allentown (Mason & Robert with Steve) defeated CEW Tag Team Turmoil Champions The Good Hand (represented by Tyler Stevens & Kasey Owens) to earn a title match (10 minutes even). Before the match, Stevens pulled a switcheroo and said no title match tonight. Allentown would have to beat them to earn a title match.Allen Brother number three Steve Allen jumped in and literally took The Bullet from Owens. The Masons low bridge Stevens. Mason flies over the top on Stevens and Robert lands a sick kick on Owens for the win.
(9) Michael Walker defeated Hunter James to win the CEW Championship in 28:11. This was a fantastic main event, filled with an abundance of great ideas to go long and keep it interesting all the way. The early chain wrestling was crisply executed and felt fresh because no other match had featured it. The crowd was split but began to favor Walker heavily as the match wore on. They leaned into it with James being the first to close his fists. Great back and forth near falls down the stretch. Walker reversed Hunter's first attempt at the brainbuster. Walker kicked out of the brainbuster. The champions was beside himself. James kicked out of the Fro's froggy bow. They pulled off an insane looking move that started like an Alabama Slam by James and ended as a tornado piledriver for Fro.
With both me down and beyond spent, Sermon appeared with the VHS. "I have the tape! I can't live with this lie any longer. I'm ready to play it!"
The tape rolls...Sermon was issuing an ultimatum to someone seated off camera: You can let the fans tell which way to go and continue to suffer or you can come with me start living their best life. The camera pulls back to reveal the back of Fro's head.
Walker gave James a low blow and pinned him with a brainbuster to become the CEW Champion for the first time. The heat was nuclear.
Sermon said he told Walker if he waited long enough did exactly what Simon said, he would become the greatest CEW Champion off all-time. Now that he had done something for Walker, Simon needed Walker to do something for him.
Sermon ordered Walker to get on his knees and kiss his ring. Sermon introduced Walker as his boy and handed him the ring.
