From Larry Goodman:
Family Reunion was in the spirit of the holiday season. For JBE fans this show was the be all, end all.
It was built around the reunion of Joseph Brock Enterprises, For the first time since I don't know when (if ever), JBE in its entirety was in Monroe on the same night and a full hour of the show was devoted to JBE.
Booker Todd Sexton kept his eye on the ball. The rest of the night was spent advancing the major storylines and setting up matches up for December 27: Jacob Ashworth vs. Billy Buck with Southern Fried owner David Manders as the self-installed special referee, Nick Halen vs. CT Keys (c) for Southern Fried Championship and Dominic Stuckey vs. Hunter James for Classics Championship.
They drew a decent house so it was win-win for the fans and Southern Fried.
The show opened with Joseph Brock, Jagged Edge, Brian Kane, Tetchi Makuji, Xavier Reyes and Drew Blood receiving individual intros. Jacob Ashworth tried to crash the party and was told JBE never liked him. Hunter James came up the aisle dressed in black and said he did more to elevate JBE than Brock ever did. James got in the ring with all of JBE. Brock put his squad over as the most ethnically diverse in Southern Fried history. No argument there. James got smart mouthed. Jagged fired up. Everybody knew Crusade had talent but they didn't have respect. Give respect or I will take it. Jagged said Reyes was ruled out and Kane wasn't medically cleared. He challenged James to get two guys and have their asses kicked all over the building by the rest of JBE. James said challenge accepted.
The segment caught fire when Jagged talked. His mic work was fantastic and the tension with James was palpable.
Blake Blackwell was on commentary with Adam Vance. Was I hearing things or did Blackwell made the wild claim that Shindig drew 1000?
(1) Bobby Moore defeated Xander Seabolt in 6:45. Moore beat Seabolt with the discus elbow and called out Disturbed.
Bingo! Match made for December 27.
(2) Nick Halen defeated Alexander Lev in 16:27. Halen did one of the smoothest STO's you'd ever want to see. Lev kicked out of Halen's GTS. Halen kicked out of the Lev Clash. Lev received a "your not AJ" chant. Lev with an STO of his own but his diving headbutt missed. Halen got a two count with a springboard face plant. Lev slipped out of Halen's sharpshooter attempt and applied a crossface. Halen rolled Lev into a pinning predicament to break the hold. Lev stayed on Halen with a norther lariat and went up top. This time, Lev's diving headbutt connected for 2 & 3/4 near fall. Halen hit the Gamebreaker and went to the top rope for a Macho Ma elbow drop for the three count.
A big thumbs up match quality. They had fabulous chemistry. Lev had added pro wrestler type size and muscle and his wrestling keeps getting better. The heat was unsurprisingly lacking. The crowd was keenly aware Lev was not going to beat Nick.
(3) Jacob Ashworth defeated Michael Walker in 10:24. Ashworth was disturbed by Manders making his way to the commentary desk. Walker showed skill and resilence. Ashworth was ready to finish him with Roll of the Dice when Billy Buck's music hit. The distraction cost Ashworth dearly. Walker surprised Ashworth with a flying body press for the three count.
Manders delighted in announcing Walker as the winner and made the match: Ashworth vs Buck on December 27 and installed himself as the special referee. Manders has become a far better character
(4) Open Challenge: CT Keys defeated Tyler Stevens via submission to retain the Southern Fried Championship in 13:02. Halen joined Adam Vance as color commentator and was putting Stevens over. This was a very physical match. Keys broke out a rana. Stevens imposed his will, targeting CT's midsection to wear the champion down. Keys fired up and delivered a standing spinebuster. They traded clubbing clotheslines until both men went down. Stevens spun Keys out of a torture rack into a neckbreaker for a near fall. But Keys escaped Steven's finishing move and locked in a cobra clutch to retain.
John Johnson was unenthused about the task of announcing Keys as the winner.
Halen said he respected CT more than anyone but Keys was looking for the hunger and had not found it so he was challenging Keys to a match for December 27. Keys accepted and said in the end game, he would break the Gamebreaker.
(5) Southern Fried Tag Team Champion Jaden Vain defeated Dominic Stuckey in 3:28. Slick, slimy Jaden got let of the hook. Christian Taylor appeared and did heinous things to Dom on the outside and he was easy pickings for Vain's DDT.
James accepted a handshake from Taylor, who is cluless does about his own strength.
JJ gave Manders a lackuster intro. Manders wanted know what was JJ's problem? JJ said since Manders had a problem with him, he was quitting the promotion.
(6) JBE (Jagged Edge & Tetchi Makuji & Drew Blood with Dr. Joseph Brock III & Brian Kane & Xavier Reyes on commentary) defeated The Crusade (Hunter James & Joey Hyder & Christian Taylor) in 24:43. Blood hammed it up. Jagged Edge took the punishment. Makuji came to play. He did a 400 pound dropkick. Crusade made JBE shine. James did an Orihara moonsault onto everybody. The pain brought tears to Blood's eyes.
Reyes told Vance not to tell his wife what he was about to do. He left the desk to go to the ring and plant his old buddy James with a Tucaida.
The Grinch came to ringside and handcuffed James to the barricade. The Grinch pulled his mask off revealing Stuckey grinning ear-to-ear. The reveal got one of the loudest pops of the night. Stuckey ran out of the building with Taylor in hot pursuit.
Makuji spit the green mist in Hyder's eyes. Kane clocked Hyder with Brock's shoe. Jagged Edge gave Hyder a piledriver. Blood went up for a moonsault. Kane deleted that idea and Blood wisely pinned Hyder with a elbow drop
Todd and Kelly Sexton came to the ring and surprised Blood with induction into the Southern Fried Wrestling Hall of Fame. Never one to be at a loss for words, Blood was legit caught unprepared. Todd ribbed Blood about forgetting where the hard cam was.
Blood said his time at Southern Fried were some of his best personally and professionally and stammered out some thank yous as best he could.
Thank you JBE for the years of sweat, blood and entertainment. Here's wishing all of you a happy holiday season.
