From Larry Goodman:
Mayhem was a top drawer show from Deep South Wrestling. Any resemblance between this show and Day One of BeltlineMania is purely coincidental.
-- Two standout matches, one was an incredibly pleasant surprise, the other was everything I hoped it would be.
-- A lot of things put in place for what appears to be a major DSW show at New Realm Brewing on May 31.
-- Big Strong Mims (see thumbnail photo) and DSW Champion Najasism got their asses beaten down by Tyson Maddux and former DSW Champion Jacob Johnson.
-- Alex Kane issued an open challenge with Johnson lurking about.
-- Ryan Rembrandt will defend the New Realm Championship (referred to as the NR title at Monday Night Garage) v DJ Smoke, Stunt Marshall and Deon Summerz.
-- Audrey Allen was celebrated at the new DSW Women's Champion. Former champion Gemma Jewels is insanely jealous and has formed her own faction to wreak havoc.
-- The show had two standout matches, one of which was an incredibly pleasant surprise.
Attendance at Monday Night Garage was around 200. I got the sense DSW has been successful in turning casual fans into regulars. They've got the perfect venue for a 2pm Sunday show.
Liz introduced of Nathan Hamilton, who paid tribute to Ted Turner. There is no way Georgia wrestling could be what it is today without Ted.
"Drewski" Drew Dickinson was next out. Drewski admitted Jacob Johnson incapacitated him at the last New Realm show but he's medically cleared and good to go.
Drewski welcomed "Voice of DSW" Michael Longino to active duty.
(1) Austin Towers defeated Dre the GOAT in 6:30. A fun opener, Towers, oh he of the perpetual scowl, was in rare form and Dre was pissing him off. Dre's dance routine and blazing speed had Towers off balance until his sidewalk slam adjusted Dre's attitude. Dre broke out a tornillo body block off the top. Dre's frogsplash was good for a count of 2.84 on the Nathan Hamilton scale. Towers choke slammed Dre from the heavens for the win.
Towers gave Dre another choke slam. Dre really got up there.
(2) Ryan Rembrandt & DJ Smoke vs. Stunt Marshall & Deon Summerz was ruled a no contest at 8:01. Pre-existing bad blood between Smoke and Marshall Smoke turned to cost them the DSW tag titles. Absolutely nobody getting along, Drewski hyping it up that the four of them were in the NR title match on May 31. Clear where this match was headed, credible wrestling to be had before they got there. Darryl Hall had no choice but to throw the match out. They ended up in a pull apart. A nice piece of business.
Alex Kane addressed the DSW fans. Kane admitted he came up short against Najasism in their BeltinelineMania title match. Kane said he was going to recalibrate and carve another path to championship gold. Kane said first out to face him on May 31 would be first to get put down. Kane spotted Jacob Johnson coming up through the crowd behind him. Johnson and his surly attitude got in the ring. He was handed a mic that didn't work and left.
(3) Tyler Stevens defeated Hunter James in 8:15. Stevens vs. James so it almost had to be a good match and it was. Stevens dominated early. Hunter's evasion tactics started to work but he could not pull off the brainbuster. James tried to come off the top rope and got caught with a massive sitout chokebomb. James dodged a charging Stevens nailed him with a shining wizard. As James went up top for a moonsault, Gemma Jewels was there to distract. James crashed and burned. Stevens pinned James clean with a DVD.
Jewels announced Stevens as her first acquisition for Gemma's Jewels and proclaimed herself as the greatest women's wrestler in Georgia wrestling history and Gemma's Jewels would be causing big problems.
This is a role Jewels was born to play, so much heat her words were being drowned out.
(4) Eddie Hindrixx defeated Troy Carter in 10:48. Carter immediately showed fear, Kneed Hindrixx in the gut as they shook hands...Hindrixx would not release his grip. It was on. The action spilled outside. Carter ducked and dodged. Carter damaged Eddie's shoulder and begged for a count out. Carter was freaked when Hindrixx beat the count. He about got his head kicked off his shoulders trying to trade with him and jumped on Eddie's back. Hindrixx did this crazy ass cannonball with Carter on his back to break the hold. Hindrixx lit into Carter and tried for Tour of the Planets. Carter slipped away and tried for a double stomp off the top and got hs head taken off by a Hindrixx larat.
This match exceeded my wildest expectations. Carter had appeared at Monday Night Garage once. Hindrixx never. They hooked the crowd in the opening minute and took them for the ride. Crowd was chanting Eddie before it over and popped huge for the finish.
Jewels came to ringside and whispered something in Carter's ear.
The coronation of Audrey Allen as the new DSW Women's Champion. DSW went all out. A shitload of DSW personnel were in the ring for the celebration that included a cake, balloons, a bouquet and party popper. Matt Sells made his return to DSW as the master of ceremonies and literally gave Allen her flowers. Reigning DSW Champion Najasism offered a toast.
Gemma came to ringside with her Jewels (Stevens & Carter). Jewels was pouting. Said she never got a party like this when she was the champion. Sells said new commissioner Simon Sermon left him in charge and told Jewels to hit the road. He led the crowd in the "nah nah" song.
What I really like about this segment was that it was truly celebratory. Yeah, Gemma's Jewels made an appearance but they didn't do the tired trope where the heels crashes the party. The focus stayed on Audrey Allen and the championship. Jewels isn't about to forget about the shabby treatment she received.
(5) SIN (Jay Alpha Miller & Hakeem Young with Ryan Rembrandt) defeated Nawfside Heroes (with Chayn Male) to retain the DSW Tag Team Championship in 14:30. These guy tore the house down. Nawfside has been among the best in the state for several years now.Miller and Young have fast become a great tag team. They've got their teamwork down to a fine science and they never let up.
Sells said per Simon Sermon, this would be a straight up tag match and banned Rembrandt from ringside. A little favoritism here as he allowed Chayn Male to stick around.
Gabe bested Teflon in the wrestling. Hakeem jumped in and dumped Gabe on his dome So much for straight up wrestling. SIN got heat on Manuel. They did the deal with the ref misses a legit tag. Hakeem and Teflon double teamed Manuel until he was half dead and pulled Gabe off the apron to keep the abuse going. Gabe entered with a double crossbody off the top. Manuel popped the crowd with a flip dive to the outside. Back and forth with killer near falls into the finish.
Chayn Male picked up one of SIN's title belts. While the ref was ejecting Chayn Male, Miller clocked Manuel with the other belt. SIN double teamed Gabe and Miller pinned him to retain.
(6) Jacob Johnson defeated Big Strong Mims in 8:02. The body of the match was fine. It was all about the finish and what happened afterward.
Johnson is not done with Drewski and was menacing the poor guy at the announce table. He's not a former NWA National and World TV Champion for nothing. They gave each other a taste of pure power. Mims jaw jacked Johnson off the ropes to break a sleeper hold and dropped him with a lariat.
The more I see of Mims' combination of physique, explosiveness and speed, the more impressed I become.
"The BBC" Tyson Maddux came to ringside to mess with Mims. Johnson took advantage of the distraction to pin Mims with a World's Strongest Slam.
Maddux choked Mims with his scarf and rode him like a steer. How humiliating. Najasism's Superman save was to no avail. Johnson subdued him with multiple World's Strongest Slams. Total carnage, DSW personnel powerless to stop Maddux and Johnson. Naja and Mims were left laying. A certain sadistic element of the audience chanted "BBC".
NOTES: The return date at Monday Night Garage is June 7...Sells joined Hamilton and Dickinson on commentary for the tag title match. The band was back together again from the DSW shows at Das BBQ...Darryl Hall and Paul Santa were the referees...Demaraie Roberson-Nettles manned one of the ringside cameras and jetted over to McDonough to shoot for 1FW.
