From Ross Blair:
Despite looking like an average card going into it, Fracture Point turned into a monumental show for Coastal Empire Wrestling. The night included crowning a new heavyweight champion, Young Mighty Joe speaking his first words, "Main Event" Michael Walker returning to his babyface "Flying Fro" persona, and perhaps the best CEW match I've ever seen as the main event. Maestro Awesome & Kevin Kantrell (subbing for Brandon Benefield, who was in Tennessee for an event with Jeff Jarrett) were the commentators for the evening, while Diana Michel ring announced. Clark DeBenedetto & Jesse B. officiated the matches.
The evening started off with CEW Heavyweight Champ "Main Event" Mike Walker addressing the crowd, saying that he's beaten everyone in the company…but there's one match he needs to have which is against “the best wrestler in CEW.”. The crowd began shouting out "Hollywood" as Walker's manager Simon Sermon joined him in the ring. Walker said he indeed needs to face Hollywood for the evening's main event slot. Sermon loudly objected, but Walker told him to shut up as Hollywood entered the ring in his street clothes.
The three men in the ring argued, which ended with Walker challenging Hollywood "right now!". Despite the continued objections from Sermon, Walker called for ring announcer Diana Michel to get the match going as referee Clark DeBenedetto came from the back to get the first match rolling…
1.) After just a few seconds of action, "Hollywood" Hunter James managed to deliver a brainbuster & pin “Main Event” Mike Walker to become the new CEW Heavyweight Champion as the crowd went nuts. Hollywood now joins Randy Reno in the record books as the only two men to hold this title twice. Hollywood accepted Walker's request for a heavyweight title defense for the evening's main event.
2.) The Redacted (Jay Alpha Miller & Hakeem Young) defeated Exotic Youth (Bryce Cannon & Cornelius Pepperbottom) via pinfall in an excellent match. Both teams impressed with tandem maneuvers, and Bryce was pinned after an impressive version of the Shatter Machine.
3.) DJ Smoke rolled up & pinned Christian Taylor in a good match. The crowd loved DJ, who has become one of the most popular guys on the roster. The match, which was not advertised, began with a DJ interview in the center of the ring. DJ said he couldn't make last month's show, but he plans on appearing on every CEW show going forward. His speech was interrupted by the lights going out & the maniacal Taylor appearing in the ring when the lights came back on.
4.) Suge D pinned Young Mighty Joe with a Perfect Plex. The bigger attraction came post match, when Joe moved the ring steps & climbed atop the announcers table. After some verbal struggling, he managed to speak his first words ever: "ONE...MORE,,,MATCH!". This got a big pop & also continues the Suge-Joe feud, which is currently 2-0 in Suge's favor. Joe then proceeded to try & eat the microphone.
5.) Dax Anthony pinned "Marvelous" Michael Stevens. Stevens is a great person to have on a card because all his comedy spots add a bit of levity to an evening full of grudge matches. He made a strange prematch proposition to Dax: instead of fighting each other, he offered to shave Dax's head & pursue the tag titles as two bald guys. The match ended with an Eat Defeat from Anthony, followed by the 1-2-3. The once hated Dax is now one of the most popular faces in the company. Multiple signs in the crowd supported him, and he is clearly enjoying his newfound popularity.
6.) The Saturday Night Temptations (Karl Hager & CJ Shine) were successful in their first CEW Tag Team Title defense against Funny Money (KJ Valentine & Tyson Malrick). This impromptu match started as an advertised "championship celebration", but it turned into a match when Funny Money interrupted & challenged the tag champs. A solid match and a good debut for Valentine & Malrick. The popular Temps won after the same maneuver they won the titles with: missile dropkick off the top rope from CJ while Hager held Valentine, followed by CJ pinning Valentine.
7.) The crowd-pleasing Kelsey Reagan defeated the debuting Gianna Gage. Both gals impressed, and it ended with a crossface submission victory from Raegan.
8.) "Hollywood" Hunter James successfully defended his newly won CEW Heavyweight Title against "Main Event" Mike Walker (with Simon Sermon). This may have been the best CEW match that I have seen, as the two men left it all in the ring this night. The crowd, sensing a babyface turn from Walker, chanted "Fro, Fro..." in between the chants for the ever-popular Hollywood. Simon clocked Hunter with the title belt, but Hollywood kicked out at 2. In response to another "Fro" chant, a grimaced Walker removed his hair tie to release his afro, which the crowd went nuts for. Walker refused to use Simon's ring when it was offered. The match continued until Hunter managed to deliver a brainbuster & pinfall to end this brilliant match. When Walker got up, he ceased Simon's boisterous nagging by punching him in the face as Walker's old "Flying Fro" music blasted through the sound system.
It is matches/moments like these that reminds me of why I'm a pro wrestling fan, with intriguing drama & a Hollywood ending...pun intended. I can't wait to see what comes next.
