From Rob Brodhecker:
I will be trying something new with this
report, so it will be a bit of a hodge-podge while I test things out.
Eight matches are on tap for this edition of
SHW, highlighted by main event match of Logan Creed challenging David Ali for
the SHW championship. Will Creed get revenge on Ali for the brutal attack that
happened in front of Creed’s child? Will David Ali be able to survive with the
title still around his waist? You’re gonna have to read to the end of the
report to find out.
Diana Michel is your ring announcers, Brandon Benefield and Gerard Bonner are handling video commentary. Referees are Todd Fox, Jeremie Prater, and David Weakley. 417 paid in the building, close to 440 with comps.
David Ali and Austin Towers make their way to the ring to open the show. Some members of the crowd are singing Ali-lujah for their saviors entrance, everyone one else is doing their best to drown them out. In the ring, David tells Towers hallelujah and then kicks Towers in the nards. Ali then hits Towers in the back with Big Red. Ali then sets up and punts Towers in face, leaving Towers flat knocked out. The crowd was not expecting that at all. The referees and some backstage help come out to check on Towers and get him to the back.
Thoughts: Minimalistic, but very effective. Ali’s showing that he’s brave enough, or crazy enough to face the monster Creed alone, perhaps both, while still being a complete prick. The crowd couldn’t believe what they saw.Ref Todd Fox gets an OG chant for his return to SHW.
1. AC Mack vs. Timmy Lou Retton
Thoughts: Mack is now 2/2 against Retton in this series. The crowd was into everything they did.
Starr runs in and attacks Mack. Owen Knight runs out and attacks Starr and the next match starts.
2.
Ashton
Starr vs. Owen Knight
Thoughts: Owen picks up this win over the Prince of Petty, still not sure on what’s going on between Owen and Mack. Time, as always, will tell.
3. The Honor Society (Jordan Kingsley and Stunt Marshall, substituting for Cyrus, with Logan Chase) vs. The All-Star Special (Hold My Beer Hanson and William Huckaby)
As per the stips, Logan Chase is now the manager of the All-Star Special, Chase is beside himself, which is an impressive feat if you know Chase. Chase slaps Kingsley in the face, Kingsley responds by super kicking Chase from the ring apron in the waiting arms of the A.S.S. Huck pours some adult refreshment into the mouth of Chase as they leave to the back singing YMCA. Kingsley gets a Jordan chant as he leaves.
Thoughts: I’m waiting on Cotton-eyed Joe. The reasonable expectation was an All-Star win with no Cyrus there, plus the fact that everyone wants to see Chase be humiliated. Still, the match told the story well. The fans embraced Kingsley after the match, will have to see what his story going forward is.
Gary Lamb promo. “So much for the summer slump.” Lamb mentions places that the crowd could have been at, but they choose SHW. He mentions that some talent and people with laptops try to tear down SHW but every month, the fans pack the place out. He mentions the next show will be on July 2nd, 4th of July weekend. He knows that some people will be going to a beach, but the ones that will come, bring 3 people with them to pack the building out again. Rumblejack show will be in August. The 3rd year anniversary show will be the second Friday in October and Gary wants 1000 people in the building one more time.
Gary announces the first person to be entered into the Rumblejack match. A video promo from The Rev and Tank plays, some people remember Tank from when he wrestled in Canton years ago and started chanting Tank. Rev mentions the last SHW show’s main event with all the barbed wire and light tubes, and that SHW hasn’t seen anything yet. Tank tells the crowd that they had better be careful of what they wished for. After the video, Gary starts to speak again but someone runs into the ring from the crowd and starts beating Gary down. Todd Sexton and other SHW officials run to the ring and the mystery man runs out of the ring and then out of the building.
Thoughts: Gary was in his wheelhouse with this promo. Gary
is in the top 5, maybe top 3 people who can deliver on a promo, IMO. The
mystery attacker angle, while cliché, should work well with the rabid SHW fan
base.
4. Skrilla the Great vs. Sunny Daze with Ravenna Vein
Thoughts: Rather hated to see a squash match with Skrilla in it, but the show needed one. Hopefully, he will be back.
5. Tag
Team Championship match: Ben and Bull Buchanan vs. Technical Excellence (Chip
Day and Kyle Matthews) (c)
Ben is showing his frustration on the ring apron. Bull shakes hands with Kyle and Chip afterwards. Bull and Ben hug but as Bull walks away, Ben kicks Bull in the bad leg. Ben is all over Bull’s leg, yelling at his father. This has been brewing for a while, the crowd is yelling you suck at Ben.
Thoughts: The seeds planted months ago have borne fruit with Ben’s attacking his father. Where this will go in (allegedly) a short period of time, we will have to see.
Intermission. All-Star Special had Logan Chase at the merch stable, making him glad hand the fans and pose for pictures.
6. Harlow O’Hara vs. Dani Jordyn
Thoughts: I, admittedly, am not the biggest fan of female wrestling. I can say that this match was extremely physical and you should go out of your way to watch it when it gets released on IWTV. I know T.O. Myron loved this match and that’s a better endorsement than mine.
Reka Tehaka promo plays and she says that she’s coming for Dani.
7. Lethal Poison (Corey Hollis and Mikal Judas) vs. Gunner Miller and Joe Black
This match has been several months in the making; Corey Hollis pretending to want Miller in Lethal Poison, all the while causing Miller wins in his matches. This is Gunner’s chance at revenge with the help of the returning Joe Black from a well-documented leg injury. Gunner and Joe run into the ring and attack Corey and Judas and the fight spills out of the ring. Ref Todd is going to have his hands full with this match. Joe and Corey get into the ring and the match officially starts. Corey clips the leg of Joe and stomps away on it. Judas takes over on the leg. Black is taking a hellacious beating from LP. Black makes the hot tag to Gunner, but Ref Todd didn’t see it, LP continue the attack on Black. Corey is mouthing off to Joe and slaps him, not a wise move. Joe fires up, lays Corey out, but can’t make the tag. Joe plants Corey on the ring apron and tags in Gunner. Gunner and Judas face off and fist fly. Rock bottom by Gunner for a near fall. Judas jumps over the rushing Gunner and plants him with a chokeslam. Hollis wants in and Gunner spears him. Gunner and Judas fall out of the ring. Joe takes off Hollis’s head with a lariat and pins him at 12:53. Black and Miller celebrate in the ring with streamers flying around them.
Thoughts: This was a smash mouthed, physical a match as you could have hoped for. Super glad to see Joe back. Hopefully, Joe and Gunner will have a match against Technical Excellence some point soon.
8. Southern Honor Championship match: Logan Creed vs. David Ali(c)
Ali runs out of the ring at the bell, Creed follows and dishes out some punishment. Back in the ring, Ali is trying to float like a butterfly and sting like a bee, but Creed knocks him out of the air. Back out on the floor, Creed is swinging Ali around, knocking Ali into the barricades and then throws Ali onto the stage. Ali uses a couple of Creed miscues to get some offense in. A big boot by Creed send Ali crashing down. Ali gets Creed over in a belly to back suplex for a near fall. Ali is kicking away at Creed’s torso, Creed tosses him away like a wet blanket. Creed wants a superplex and lands it, both men are down. Ali throwing strikes, Creed plants him with a chokeslam for a near fall. Ali’s throwing the kitchen sink at Creed and just gets a near fall. Ali is measuring up Creed and nails the punt kick, but Creed kicks out. Ali punts Creed’s head again, Creed kicks out at one. Ali rushes at Creed, Creed moves, and Ali squashes Ref David instead. Ali grabs Big Red while Creed checks on the ref. Creed grabs the bat from Ali but didn’t get a chance to use it. Creed plants Ali with the Scorched Earth. Ref Todd runs out from the back and makes and counts to three to give Creed the win at 13:59.
The crowd gets on their feet for the victorious Creed and new SHW Champion. Gary Lamb, Todd Sexton, and other people come out. Ref David revives and says that David Ali is disqualified. Winner by DQ is Logan Creed but Ali is still champion. Ali slams the bat on Creed’s head. Ali sets the bat on fire and hits Creed on the head again. All the officials and several wrestlers empty out of the back to get Ali out of the ring and tend to Creed, including a certified medic.
Thoughts: Whew, lots of things here. The crowd exploded when they thought Creed had won and some of them even started for the exit. Whoops, you should have stayed in place. The crowd was so into Creed winning that they had forgotten about Ref Weakley getting hit for the DQ. The flaming bat is a fantastic visual and should be all over the internet quickly. It will be interesting to see if, when, and how Creed can come back.
The next Southern Honor show is July 2nd.
